I've seen him four times, but only once with the ensemble (at Roo, natch). I actually have preferred him solo, though I largely feel that's because he was having some technical difficulties with the ensemble and I was really hoping my then girlfriend would be blown away by his show because I wanted her to love it as much as I did. She was into it, but not blown away. A few months ago someone asked him on his Facebook if he was coming back to Roo. His reply was that he would consider it if asked. He probably won't be asked, but it would be great if he came back. Maybe in a couple years he will since he appears to be aggressively working on new stuff.

there weren't enough people at his set last year. it was totally insane though. something big was going on during his set - what was it? anyone remember? i'd love to have him back.

I saw whole first hour of jay z and heard almost all the songs I wanted to hear, and still got to catch all of deacon. Worked out well.
TBH, while I love him, I don't see how he was big enough to get such a prominent latenight spot. But I'm glad he did, that show rocked.
It was very frustrating though since I didn't show up early I was off to the side, and I missed out on all the crazy shenanigans in the middle of the crowd... the bunny vs gumby dance-off ,etc
Had never heard of Dan Deacon and was heading that way for Deadmau5 and caught the last half hour or so of Deacon. Made me a fan right away. Would love for him to come back.
been lurking since before last year's roo, but had to register just to comment in this thread (username is even a dan deacon reference (Red F)).
dan deacon last year was incredible! i'd never heard of him before bromst and the second i heard that i was hooked. and then, since i live in the south, roo was my first chance to get to see him and it completely blew my expectations out of the water.
i find it amazing that that many people can work together in such harmony to make something so dynamic and consistently beautiful. that's a sign of serious talent.
soooo long post short, dan deacon can come back to the farm any time he wants.
I was sad I had to miss him for Jigga Man. Although, Jay-Z put on a hell of a show. I don't find it very likely, but I hope we get Dan Deacon back on the farm.
I also thought last year's show was spectacular, save for when he called out his bass player. Still, if he does come back, it likely will be in the Other Tent, which is smaller. That was a kind of sparse crowd, for the most part.
Yeah, that was pretty epic. I'll remember that moment forever. It was just sheer jubilation in a slow build form. Felt like everyone in the tent was one.
I hope they wouldn't hold his sparse crowd against him as a musician. He was, after all, scheduled against a headliner who is one of the biggest names in music right now.
Plus that small crowd only made DD's set that much more intimate, which is personal for a type of music that is packed with so much emotion.

^^this. the way that man controls the energy of the song (and the crowd) is incredible. if you're not moving frantically by the end of one of his songs, you may want to go to the doctor and see if you still have a soul.

The bass player must have messed up or something, and Dan got on him. He stopped the start of a song and said something like, "Bass players are a dime a dozen." Then he moved onto another song. It was kind of uncomfortable - my wife and I looked at each other like wtf - but it was a blimp in an otherwise sublime show.

Yeah, Dan was giving a "misguided political rant", as he called it, and his bassist was really out of tune for the next song and for some reason couldn't tune his bass. When I heard it, it seemed more jokingly, but who knows.
Spin magazine's Day 3 Bonnaroo review killed Dan for it - it's a REAL negative review - but I just saw it as a short blimp in an otherwise sensational set.
