Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
has VIP been in place at roo for its entire entity?
No becca..... 2002 had no class system in place. We were all one big dirty family.
I apologize if the above statement contributed to the negativity around here as that was not my intention at all. I agree with everything you said GOUGE. I've only been here since March, but I came back expecting to share all of my many great experiences this year with everybody and hear about their's in return. Now I feel like my spectacular weekend was an aberration, and most people had a terrible time. I feel sooo bad for ANYONE who had a subpar Roo that this week on Inforoo has kind of got me down.
Karma to you GOUGE for giving us the DL thread. Hearing the shows again so soon has really helped lift the spirits.

no thanks, one of the things i've always loved about feasties is everyone from all walks of life coming together to party for the weekend, i realize bonnaroo counts on the revenue that VIP brings but i wish they would get rid of it.
if you really feel like spending money and being able to get out of the elements then you can always get an RV for the weekend.
You are 100% correct! There should not be a VIP anywhere at anything music related... it ruins the whole purpose of a festival. And to all VIPers if you enjoy sitting in the stands at the back of the What Stage area to watch a show... good! Stay the f**k out of my way so I have more space! =)
I hear that. I did it last year, and it was cool, but i am not made of that kind of money, and I dont think it is necessary to have a great festival experience. I heard this year they were searching VIPERS going in through their special centeroo/mainstage field entrance, and enforcing the same rules upon them as GAERS . This was my first year doing GA, and I feel the savings would add up if I did have money to do VIP again. also last year the VIP showers were nasty, the water was cold, and the lines were long, thus resulting in me using them only once. This year I just went into a portojon that wasnt too disgusting with my change of clothes, body wash, shampoo, a jug of water, towel, and washcoth all in my back pack. i would have my flip flops on, scrub down, wash my hair w/ the shampoo, rinse off ,dry off, and then put my clean change of clothes on. I did this every day, and felt refreshed. I mean F2ck paying ten bucks or whatever it was to take a shower, I heard those things were nasty, had cold water, and the lines were long, my routine, although maybe scoffed upon was alot faster, I got myself clean everyday, and It cost me nothing, not a VIP ticket, not ten bucks or whatever the garnier fructis people were charging. As far as beer was concerned, I had the perfect Backpack to get it in, but it was also just too damn hot to drink in the daytime. i also had cooler, friendlier Neighbors in Ga than I did in VIP last year. I think I would take a chance with GA again because I think VIP is a big so what besides being closer, and having a big air conditioned catering tent with furniture. The catered food itself declines in quality throughout the weekend, and the meal doesnt change, I would also be far away from the hospitality tent most of the time, and eat in centerooAs far as the bleachers go who the hell wants to sit on scorching metal further away from the stage? Not only that, but some spots in VIP can also be a longer walk away from centeroo than some GA spots. All in all not worth it unless you wipe your ass W/ hundred dollar bills. trust meThe savings add up. VIP is not worth it!!!! Just my two cents.
I don't understand the big deal. If you don't like VIP, don't go VIP. If you don't like GA, don't go GA. What is there to bitch about? I'm kind of offended by the comment about VIP vs. GA "classes". I went VIP, I don't consider myself more "I" than anyone else. It's an upgrade, not segregation. You do the same thing at concerts, i.e. pay $25 for regular seats, $50 for orchestra pit seats. It's up to YOU what you want.
You don't have to wipe your ass with hundred dollar bills. I'm certainly not rich. Saving $12 each week, not counting the week of Roo, will buy you a VIP ticket. You may have to sacrifice other things, but I don't think that's unattainable, unless you already have serious financial trouble, in which case you probably shouldn't be going at all.

I was just giving my opinion, but to somebody else, it may totally be worth it. I feel I had just as much fun doing GA for the first time this yearas i did in VIPlast year but i heard several complaints about VIP this year, and it makes me glad I did not shell out the money for it this year, but if there was an orchestra pit for VIP, or some other special seating area for VIPERS other than metal Bleachers, I may reconsider, but until and if that happens, I think I have a better use for my money.

What's up with all the negative vibes regarding VIPer's. I met people from all walks of life who came together to party for the weekend. And I didn't spend a second in the stands. Once again, all the peace-love-rock&roll vibe some of you preach on here is really nothing but hot air since you judge someone if they have different tastes than you.

Amen to that. Sure I had some complaints about VIP this year but definetly not as many as the 3 years I spent in GA. Your right they probably do bank on most of their money coming in from the VIP crowd so why shouldnt they get more priviledges? If you dont like the "walk around" to the entrance, then maybe you should upgrad instead of sitting on a board and complaining about something thats been going on for 5 years.
VIP isn't just richy riches showing off, many are people who find Bonnaroo thier one vacation, their one escape, their one major pleasure for the year. So they save up. We're obviously all music fans, I can't help but respect someone who saves up to have what they feel is the best music experience for them.
I didn't feel like a second class citizen being in GA. It was fun. I bet VIP would be fun too. We're all there hopefully for the same reason, jsut sleeping in different location.

Well said. We used our entire combined tax returns because we felt Roo was well worth it, which it was. It was by no means chump-change to us. Also, my wife has had three operations on her knee and couldn't do GA unless we were really lucky and got very close to Centeroo.

Pros: - Air conditioned bathrooms (not just portapotties) - Showers (not just sinks) - Free food - Cheaper drinks - Quick, minimum security access to What stage, Centeroo, and Tent-Only - Big campsites - Secure/'safer' feeling - Easy to find your campsite after a hard night rockin'
Cons: - Expensive - Only available in pairs, and you share a single parking spot - Voucher exchange at HIE was a joke - 2+ hours in line there, then another 2+ at security check? - Bleachers are a joke - don't upgrade if all you're looking for is better seats - Free food didn't start until noon, and was hard to find at times after that - Not as much of a communal feeling as Tent-Only or GA - Tent-Only lost space so VIP could grow (just not fair) - Parking staff were unprepared - RVs were parking right next to tents
All in all, I'd still say my VIP experience was everything I expected it to be. VIP (or maybe GA with an RV) is the only way for me. I don't find paying for a little extra comfort to be elitist.
That being said, I agree that any sort of reserve/tiered seating plan goes against the spirit of a music festival. I think the VIP bleachers are a fair compromise in this case: they may be bad seats, but in some cases (wheelchair access, parents with small children, anxiety disorders, etc.) it may be the best solution.

Well, I'm a broke college student, so scraping together money just to buy a GA ticket and all my Roo supplies is hard enough as it is. I don't really want to go VIP anyway, I like the GA experience. Give me no showers and $1 grilled cheeses ....I like the escape, camping all weekend, roughing it, not caring what you look like or where you sleep all weekend...it's just a nice escape from my buttoned-up life for a weekend. Maybe when I'm older and have the funds, I'll do it.
Funny story....me and a friend were on the ferris wheel on Saturday, and we got put on a car with 2 VIP people. They were definitely clean, and we were definitely not. It was kind of a funny contrast....they were really nice people though! I think they just thought we smelled a little bit...haha!

the first year we went to the roo, we had GA tics, and someone on the board (they dont want me to say who, never figured that out) GAVE us two VIP tics ... this year we were in GA (sort of) ... ga was fine by us because we were in handicap, thus we had a really really short walk to the gate (like 75 feet) and we got to sit in the bleachers, in front of VIP no less lol ... so those two years are not a good comparision i realize .... what is up with us though, this year we have went to 4 festivals (and still going to hit vegoose) ... i make ok money, but i cannot afford vip at fests because we go to so many .... between wakarusa the first week, then off to the roo the next week, we spent about 2400 bucks, and that was just for two fests .... if you can afford vip, thats cool, but if you want to talk with ron and tygerlady, dont think you will find them in vip ..... cr****

i would like to share a very surreal experience me and my good friend had at this year's Bonnaroo..
Not many of our friends that went know about this, as we mutually decided we were going to exclude this from the events that unfolded after Sasha and Digweed.
Somewhere during the set, my friend Dirty Ernie found a "Why?" lamination pass.....
At the time, we were so far gone that we didn't know what to do about it, but while we were walking back to camp from the all night Sasha set, we were passing VIP when we both gave each other "the look".
I told him to pocket the lami and when they ask for the VIP bracelet, look suprised the pass isn't around the neck and then fumble around in your pockets until he dug it out, all while we just keep walking. He pulled it off smoothly. Then ol buddy asked for mine.
I used a Hunter S. Thompson voice and went, "it's back at the site....been a long weekend......fuck off"
i wasn'ty trying to be a dick, but that's just how i had to go about it. He gave a prompt, "aww, my bad."
A guy who was just ahead of us coming back from the same show saw and heard all of this, and he quickly took us under his wing after laughing and saying he'd never seen anything quite like that in his 6 years at Bonnaroo.
We headed to his site, sat down, and caught up on the weekend while sharing all the goods we had stumbled across during the Digweed set. He pointed us to the bathrooms and the showers, and showed us were breakfast was gonna be served at noon. We helped ourselves to all the Powerades, Vitamin Waters, and fruit that we wanted and could carry, our pal Polar Bear insisted..
We got good and roasty and it was time to check out the bathrooms. I expected them to be clean, but i wasnt expecting the a/c or the music playing while i handled my biz. Finished up and got some clean cold running water with the soap provided and hand towels for the face and neck. mmmmmm.
That was the precurser to the shower. We got the last 2 showers on the end, and for the first 10 or 15 minutes, we didn't say a word. But after i got good and rejuvinated, the first exchange was,
me - "Awwwww man, my water is getting cold.."
Ernie - "That sucks dude, mine's still hot."
me - "yeah...mine too.." (lol)
we laughed for the next few minutes, and the jokes kept coming.
Me: "So...i took a shower tonight.."
Ernie: "Got some a/c...jealous much?" (Tool joke)
a few minutes later... "Heheh, i got some organic chamomile soap over here, what about you?"
Ernie: "Got some apricot scrub" (lol)
Me: i got some Pert Plus"
Ernie: "Garnier over heeuh"
it was like Beavis and Butthead snuck into VIP
we met up with Polar Bear and rapped a while longer. Exchanged numbers and emails, and we'll meet up next year - needless to say, in VIP.
Dude....you realize that the laminted "why?" passes weren't VIP, but backstage right?? You could've gone to the artist area.

I agree, I think that sums up most of the people. My boy and I have gone VIP for 2 years now...we still haven't paid off the credit card from the first time around, and this time, having not paid on credit, we're a little on the poor side. We can't afford to go to any other festivals or vacations, but Bonnaroo was our event of the year.
VIP details aside (showers, food, etc) A lot of people, old and young alike, may like VIP because they can avoid any rifraf in GA. I think it's less likely in VIP to get something stolen or to experience any other unpleasant situations. I'm included in that group, I like not having to worry so much about such things.
The choice kind of reminds me of party preferences; some people like the big crazy parties packed with people, while others prefer a more low-key party atmosphere with just a few people.
If we went GA, we'd probably rent and RV or have a group of friends large enough to create our own little community where everyone could pitch in and bring something. Since we're in TN I've also been considering working as staff or as a volunteer for clean vibes. You can't relax the entire time, but getting to go to Bonnaroo in exchange for some hard work is fine by me.

yep, something to be said for being able to leave handles of booze lined up on our table and come back to still have them sitting there. plus the proximity to the stages is great. Being able to leave ratdog, go back to our cooler at camp, come back to the show with a six pack of Oberon for our crew, and not even miss a whole song.. priceless.

Sorry if I offended; certainly was not my intention. I've apparently lost a karma point today and I hope it wasn't from this. You and BigLou are some of my favorite folks on the board and I would hate to think I got smited by you guys.

Wasn't me. I've never smitten anyone. ;D
I guess offended wasn't the correct word. I wasn't really offended, just kinda surprised that others viewed VIPers that way, as if VIPers act like they're above GAers. Maybe they should call VIP something else, so it's not so heirarchy-ish. We personally didn't even use most of the VIP stuff. We never used the shower, we had our own camping shower so we didn't have to wait in line. We ate almost every meal in Centeroo. We never sat in the bleachers. Most of the time the A/C was out in the bathrooms by us anyway. I think it was worth it just for walking proximity, camping space, and the ease of getting into Centeroo compared to the lines and security for GA, which I think was ridiculous.
I can also understand, which I hadn't thought of before, is multi-fest goers. Then I can understand not being able to afford VIP. This year, Roo was our only big vacation, so we saved, but yeah, we probably couldn't afford or get the time off from work to make it to multiple festivals.

I probably won't upgrade to VIP but i'm definitely taking the money I would spend on VIP and getting an RV for sure. I like the diversity of GA too much to go to VIP.
Dude....you realize that the laminted "why?" passes weren't VIP, but backstage right?? You could've gone to the artist area.
Yeah, you could have gone pretty much anywhere. Artist area, media area, stood next to certain stages... If the laminate said "Infinity" on it, you could have stood on any of the stages, and gone EVERYWHERE on site.
Dude....you realize that the laminted "why?" passes weren't VIP, but backstage right?? You could've gone to the artist area.
Even after the legendary Sasha and Digweed set, at 9..10..11 am....i did know the score.
Here's what happened..
after Ernie and i left VIP, it was about 10:30, 11 am Sunday. We knew what we had on our hands, but because there were no shows playing, and we had been up for hours and hours at that point, (and not to mention it was already like 90 degrees and we had been..ummm..doing what most Bonnaruvians were doing at Sasha for the entire set) we felt like we should go back to camp, get some MUCH needed sleep, and put the laminated pass to good use when we woke up.
The problem...
Ernie slept much longer than i did...i wanted to catch The Decemberists and Feist and Wilco and shit, with the pass, but it was his (Why? was friend's of the artist..i think) and he was sleeping with it, and i wasn't about to take it from him.
I could've put it to good use, but it wasn't mine to do so with.
I felt like i had already gotten lucky with the shower and bathroom and vitamin water and the VIP love in general, so i was just happy about that and went about my Sunday fending off the heat and still feeling the FLIPS and the Sasha the night before.
