Music sounds good to me...but, the singing is just so-so. I'll definitely check them out regardless. I hope it's better than the CSN show I caught last summer.
Stills is the only one of the three losing his voice. Richie sounds the same.

they just seem to fit a sunset spot, probably on the which stage. Don't really seem them "opening" for AF or Em, and Insider said Robert Plant would open for Panic. So headlining which stage on saturday seem most likely, to me at least. but who knows...stranger things have happened.

I really think a lot of people will eb upset if BS doesn't headline. How are they not in the top 3 money makers on that list? they haaave to be a bigger draw then WSP and i'd say on par with AF. Unfortunately I'm assuming Eminem is the number 1. but whatever/

I think alot of people dont even know who Buffalo Springfield is, espeacilly Roos core audience which is mostly young adults. I think they are right where they belong on the lineup.
anyone who doesn't know who Buffalo Springfield and is over the age of 18 is most likely severely retarded.
No.........just unenlightened.
I knew a cool dude who drove one of the buses at my college campus who I used to talk to about music. He turned me on to BS when I was like 20 and I couldn't believe I had NEVER heard of them.......even tho I knew their big song.
Just open their eyes..........don't call them retarded. Remember....there was a time that you didn't know who they were.

your right, I'm just a little pissed off about everyone doggin them when they are so amazing. And it was one of the bands I was raised on, so not really, though I know what you mean.
Oh yeah, this is good, very good. These guys have a huge chapter in the history of rock, individually and collectively. For me this will be like seeing Jeff Beck and John Fogerty last year; music I grew up to that still, when I look back on it, plays a big part in how I see the world today. I love the new music too but it's really cool knowing that what I enjoyed then has stood the test of time. And.....I've said I'll keep going to 'roo as long as there's artists older than me so I just qualified for another year. Looks like it will be a great one!
I am so incredibly excited for this show. I think this might be my #1 act for 2011, or at least tied for first with Arcade Fire. I'm actually quite shocked they're not headlining; I thought anything involving Neil Young would headline for sure, and especially Buffalo Springfield. I can already tell this is going to be an incredibly special, unforgettable show for myself and many others. I'm wondering where they're going to fit on the schedule; my gut says Sunday pre-headliner, but Insider said that's going to be Robert Plant & The Band of Joy. That essentially makes it a repeat of Sunday in 2008 though, and Roo might want to keep it fresh. Who knows, all I know is that I will absolutely, positively be at this show and loving every minute.
screw that BS should get a full two hours. They are legends. My decision to go to roo is based on this act (though i'm very pleased with the undercard) but they better be a headliner. Because if AF, Em, and WSP are really the 3 headliners that would suck.
It's Buffalo Springfield's first real show together in 42 years. They might not even be able to/want to play a full 2 hours. There's a reason where they are on the lineup - they aren't one of the top three, so they probably aren't a "headliner."
I really think they will be split, pre-headliner, with someone else, like David Byrne/Beastie Boys in 2009.
Must resist... urge to... revive... stupid argument... over whether... Beasties... headlined.
Phew.
I think it'll be criminal if Buffalo Springfield gets anything less than a solid two hours. I'm not saying they necessarily won't, just that it'll suck if that's the case.

You think Beasties were a headliner that year? I don't want to de-rail the thread into an argument.....i'm just curious if you think they were a headliner?
As for Buffalo Springfield.......their albums will be on repeat for months until the festival.
I cannot believe they actually pulled this off. I can not wait and am ecstatic to have the opportunity to experience their music with a festival crowd!

Anyone who doesn't know Buffalo Springfield should listen to this. They were doing trippy/experimental songs way back then. This is like 3 or 4 songs in one.
Broken Arrow
Lyrics:[/b]
The lights turned on and the curtain fell down, And when it was over it felt like a dream, They stood at the stage door and begged for a scream, The agents had paid for the black limousine That waited outside in the rain. Did you see them, did you see them? Did you see them in the river? They were there to wave to you. Could you tell that the empty quivered, Brown skinned Indian on the banks That were crowded and narrow, Held a broken arrow?
Eighteen years of American dream, He saw that his brother had sworn on the wall. He hung up his eyelids and ran down the hall, His mother had told him a trip was a fall, And don't mention babies at all. Did you see him, did you see him? Did you see him in the river? He were there to wave to you. Could you tell that the empty quivered, Brown skinned Indian on the banks That were crowded and narrow, Held a broken arrow?
The streets were lined for the wedding parade, The Queen wore the white gloves, the county of song, The black covered caisson her horses had drawn Protected her King from the sun rays of dawn. They married for peace and were gone. Did you see them, did you see them? Did you see them in the river? They were there to wave to you. Could you tell that the empty quivered, Brown skinned Indian on the banks That were crowded and narrow, Held a broken arrow?
About the song:
"Broken Arrow" is a song written by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young and recorded by Buffalo Springfield on their 1967 album Buffalo Springfield Again. It was recorded in August and September 1967 at Columbia Recording Studios and Sunset Sound Recorders. It incorporates musical ideas from "Down Down Down," a demo Young recorded with Buffalo Springfield (and now available on the box set).
"Broken Arrow" was confessional folk rock. It consists of three verses interspersed with snippets of sounds, featuring organ, a jazz combo with piano, bass, drums, and a clarinet. The song begins with audience applause (taken not from a Buffalo Springfield show, as some expect, but rather from a concert by the Beatles) and the opening of "Mr. Soul" (which opens the album) recorded live in the studio. The second verse begins with the sound of an audience booing, while the Calliope plays a strange version of the song "Take Me Out To The Ballgame", before some weird sound effects bring on the verse. There is also the sound of a military snare drum, that plays drum rolls, first quietly, and getting louder and louder, until the fifth time, an unusual sound effect brings the song to the third verse. The Jazz combo plays an improvisation, first taken up by the clarinet, and followed by the piano, until it fades out, whereas, we only hear the beating of a heart, until that fades out, too.
Each of the three verses uses surreal imagery to deal with emotions (emptiness of fame, teenage angst, hopelessness), and contains self-references to Buffalo Springfield and Young. They all end with the same lines:
Did you see them, did you see them? Did you see them in the river? They were there to wave to you. Could you tell that the empty quivered, Brown skinned Indian on the banks That were crowded and narrow, Held a broken arrow?
I am stoked to see the BS. Thiis going to be special. I really hope they play a mostly electric set as I want to hear Neil and Stpehen duel. (Of course, Neil will win).
Psyched to see Deer Tick, Railroad Earth and Del McCoury and Deerhunter, too.
BS should get saturday 7-9>Eminem 920-11> Primus 12-2.. who cares if those acts dont blend together well.. no where else on earth could you hear those act play back to back ever
BS should get saturday 7-9>Eminem 920-11> Primus 12-2.. who cares if those acts dont blend together well.. no where else on earth could you hear those act play back to back ever
I don't think that Primus gets late night What stage. If anything....late night Which stage.

John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
When i seen Wilco last February on Presidents Day, Tweedy said since it's Presidents Day in the States we thought we'd play a song by the president of Canada and then they played Broken Arrow
I really think Bonnaroo should pop the cherry on a Sunday late-night show, if only for this year. Being such a special occasion and all. Robert Plant>Buffalo Springfield>WSP would be a perfect way to close the 10th.
