i havent done roo by myself but i have done a rothbury and some other fests by myself an its not that bad... at least around here you can hook up with the inforoosters in tent only and you have a base. theres also a group called solo rooers, which is a group of all people going to roo solo. it might be worth while to follow up with them too

I went by myself last year, and had an absolute BLAST. I found some people to carpool with there and back from Florida, but I knew they weren't interested in seeing the same things as me - so I didn't really see them other than in the mornings.
My best advice is to read up on these forums about what to bring. The more prepared you are, the better time you will have. IMHO the most important thing is to bring a MIST FAN, so you can keep cool, make a TON of friends, and get to the front of the crowd with ease.
Having the freedom to go where and when you want really let me create my own uniquely awesome experience. Plus, pretty much everyone is cool at the 'Roo, so it's not hard to make friends. I met countless cool people that I ran in to several times throughout the festival.
I've gone to Roo 2 years now with a friend and it will be my first year going solo as well. Coming from the Boston area. Last year even though I was with a friend I spent a good time wandering solo. I'm excited to meet new people and it sounds like you will be in good company.

i went alone the last two years and will be solo this year. the first six trips i went with somoeone. the last two years have been better than i imagined. i have always met people throughout the days. i am a solo person in general, so its never been an issue to be alone. i have always felt safe at roo. i love roo. will always go no matter if i am alone or not.

I went by myself last year and I'm going by myself this year! I had so much fun last year and met some really good people who I still talk to. Go for it! Make friends with your neighbors or just as many random people as you care to!
I tried to get my friends to come with me but no one can come for one reason or another so I just said quack it and I decided I'm going solo to roo. I was nervous about going alone when I first decided to go, but the more I think about it the more excited I am to be able to step outside my comfort zone and enjoy something amazing completely on my own... with 80,000 people haha.
Thanks everyone for this info! I'm a first timer from Chicago and was a little uncertain about going by myself but you've convinced me. I just bought my ticket and look forward to meeting some chill people and enjoying some awesome music.
Even if you go solo, I'd recommend even making new friends from here that are in your area before you go and maybe head down with them if possible. I've already met 1 friend from here that definitely wants to meet up again down there and would've ridden down with me had I not been volunteering and needing to be there Tues morning. Even if you dont need a ride, I still think going to your area's rideshare boards on here are good to meet people.
Going solo here too. I met a cool guy on Bonnaroo Ride thing that will give me a ride there. From Denver here, first timer and really excited to be there and make new friends!
I thought about flying but I would have to buy so many things once I get there so I kinda got a little scared and decided to find a rind. It worked. Are you also from Denver?

^ agreed. im coming out from australia and hitting up 'roo, cant wait! was planning on heading out solo but through this site am teeing up a RV trip from florida. pretty happy doing my own thing but im sure there are plenty of friends out there that i just havent met yet - bring it on
I'm in the same boat! My bf is NOT a festival or outdoors person but I totally am, so I think I'll be going alone. He's worried about my safety (its a long trek)... I'm very self-sufficient but any stories of first-time rooers (especially females) who went solo would help me put his mind at ease.
I just replied to one of your other postings. You can hang out with me. I am going without my husband, I am 32, and from Pittsburgh. I will have my brother and another good friend (male) along, but a female companion would be nice.
Do you have a ride there yet or are you traveling alone as well? We still have one seat left in our van if you need a ride.
I had 2 separate groups bail on me, so I will be getting dropped off and Roo'ing alone. My mom thinks it is dangerous but I couldn't imagine selling my wristband and staying home.

Thank you much for the ride offer! I am driving down since I decided to take a week on either side of Roo to wander around and see the sights... I'm really excited for the adventure now! Are you going to the Inforoo brunch on Friday morning? I'd be psyched to meet some fellow Pittsburghers there... also, I'll have a huge LET'S GO PITTSBURGH flag at my campsite, so if you see that definitely stop by and say hi! ;D

Good for you! And if its any consolation, my mom thinks its dangerous and is worried about me too, and I'm 35. I'm a first timer but I think its going to be a blast. Keep your head on straight and drink lots of water and you'll be fine.
Hey, I'm a sophomore at UA, and I (as well as some other friends) will be attending Roo. I'm leaving Ttown Wednesday morning to meet my group in Birmingham. If you end up not wanting to go alone or wanna caravan or wanna chill, let me know!

Is there a thread for solo rooers?
..yea, is there? it'd be cool to meet up with some solo rooers beforehand.

I had planned on going alone, but I found someone to share a ride and some camping supplies, thank goodness. The majority of my trip will be alone, though, because I'm not picking them up until the last leg of the trip. When I get there, I'll basically be alone and I'm not scared. I like to get out and explore and meet new people. Can't wait!
