I've been 4 years, only one of those was I with anyone. I have fun alone, maybe even more than when I wasn't. When you're alone you can go and see anyone you want whenever you want without worrying about someone else. Just be open to talking with people and you'll make friends.
Heck, last year I wound up talking to some girl standing next to me while waiting at a one of the stages on Thursday and we hung out for a good bit of weekend. It turned out she lived like an hour from my parents and had friends in another city that I used to live near. We met up twice after Bonnaroo and still talk often.
In short: the vast majority of people at Bonnaroo are cool, laid-back people who welcome new friends, so don't worry about going alone.
I had a blast the year I went alone. I was intimidated initially, but after the first 15 minutes - meeting all my neighbors, getting camp set up and having a beer with them - all worries evaporated. You get to meet new people and do whatever you want when you want to be alone. It was a great experience.
I figured I should post seeing as this will be my first time going to Bonnaroo, and I'll be going alone. From all the posts I've read, it seems that camping is the best way to go.
I'm a little nervous, but I still think it'll be a blast.
I only have one question: What type of bag/backpack should I bring with me during the day? I don't want anything that'll be too much of a hassle.
camelbaks are the best you have water and can keep a few things in the bag.. its the only way to go.. and then you dont waste plastic bottles!!

There is a whole thread concerning that somewhere around here. I will look for it. Also, I am a little 43 year old female and if I didn't have anyone to go with, I would not hesitate to go alone Bonnaroo is probably one of the safest places I know.

This will be my 4th Roo and the first time I go alone. I'm from the new england area so driving by myself doesn't sound like a ton of fun. I'll probably fly down instead like I did the first time I went. I got there with my buddy the night before, stayed in a cheap hotel and then took the shuttle from the airport thurs morning. The good part is you get really close in camping only. The bad news it doubles the cost to fly and take a shuttle

Yeah, that's the only sucky part about it. I flew from Providence when I went last year. The rental car and the plane fare skyrocketed my costs - especially going by myself.
Would of have been nice to have company some of the time. But at the same time, going alone gave me freedom to do pretty much whatever I wanted

Yeah I'm excited to have a bit more freedom this year. What was the purpose of the rental car? I thought the shuttle was the best way to go

Don't worry about it. People at Bonnaroo are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Everyone is there to have a good time and thus have good vibes. I've been to alot of 'Roo shows by myself because my group wasn't down. Just enjoy the shows you want to see and you will be good. For instance, I went to the Metallica show by myself and I found other Metallica fans to vibe with. So who cares? Have fun, life is too short to not.

This thread definitely gave me a lot more confidence in going by myself. This is my first roo as well and made plans to come with my cousin. However, she is seeming less and less into the idea of four days of being dirty with no real bathroom. I'm glad to know I've found a place with such great advice and even greater people.
Also, I don't know if this information is found somewhere else here, but what are these "ravenous wolverines" and "bears" I'm hearing about? I'm assuming they're referring to people being under the influence of certain, er, "substances" but I was just wondering what substances and how big of a problem they can be.

Last year our neighbor Tom was there alone and we became fast friends....he joined our Tent City and it was sweeeeeeeeeeeet to get to know another corn head
I might be going solo this year - my patner is getting lots of slack from his baby mama and I will have to trek it alone

So I guess I didn't put too much thought into my overnight arrangements. This is my very first festival, and while I really don't mind driving alone, I'm a little unsure about camping alone. I've been camping before, but its always been with family or friends.
I have access to a good tent, sleeping bag, fan, cooler, chairs, and other smaller stuff like flashlights, baby wipes, sunscreen, etc.
After reading thru most of the posts though, I've seen a bunch of people recommend you bring things like a standing shower stall and solar shower bags, a camel back, mini grill, and such. Since I don't have any of those things, I'm wondering if I should splurge on them... (I don't have a huge budget, but I've got a little bit of money put away for the trip)
*OR*
Find/make arrangements with another group who I can share with. I don't mind sharing my stuff and helping out where I can.
Forgive me for rambling and sounding like a moron, I just hate going anywhere unprepared.
Any advise would be appreciated, and again sorry for the whiny babbling.

Sounds to me like you have everything you could need. camelbak would be good but other than that you have more than most people. And at bonnaroo you're never really camping alone. You'll be good friends with the people around you in the first 5 min. Don't worry about it. I flew down my first year and only brought he bare minimum and was just fine.

A camelbak isn't necessary, but you'll at least want a stainless steel water bottle or something that holds water. They have water filling stations in Centeroo. A camp shower isn't necessary, either. If you're going on a budget, you can get by without one: You could fill up a jug of water at one of the GA water stations and clean up that way. You'll see guys in swim trunks and gals in swim suits at the water stations each morning. The water is cold, and it feels good underneath the hot Tennessee sun. The same goes with a grill. We took one last year, and loved making hamburgers and steaks, but prior to that we got by on homemade pasta salad and bbq chicken and other things we prepared prior to heading south. And as others have said, your roo neighbors should be friendly, so you should be able to lean on them for help/assistance. I've never had an unfriendly neighbor in my five years on the farm. One last note: all first timers should consider setting aside a bunch of space in their freezer to freeze water bottles prior to heading to roo. You'll use a LOT LESS ice that way.
This will be my 4th Roo and while I go with my husband every year we spend more time apart than together as our musical tastes split shows.
My first Roo was after I had finished chemo and was still pretty sure I wasn't going to be around for very long (cancer at 38). Take my advice and try not to make decisions out of fear. I know it may sound over the top but from the moment I arrived on the farm I felt like I was at home and with my tribe.
So go solo, go to the brunch and make some friends or hang on your own but make sure to have fun
Hello all. I am looking into coming to Bonnaroo this year and it will be my first time. I might be going solo because I guess my friends dont like camping and good music. My question is what is it like for a first timer going it alone?
I see many people say without a doubt still go if you go alone but what should I expect? There are so many bands I want to see and I kinda feel like I might regret it if I dont go so I am trying to get as much info as I can. I am coming from the Chicago area if anyone lives in the area, maybe we can meet up and hang out some before hand and go together.
Going alone allows you to see more bands as there is no conflict with friend's schedules or meal times or needing to babysit a wasted friend, etc. Total freedom! You will make plenty of Roo friends of you in the least bit outgoing.
I love going alone. Doing it this year.
If you're worried about getting lonely camp at Camp Inforoo in Tent Only. This is also great for a 1st timer as if you forget something critical you have help from fellow roosters.
Oh yea I totally forgot to ask, what is camp Inforoo and tent only? These might be dumb questions but as I said I am new and know nothing about it I was sold at great music and camping.
From what I understand Tent only is just that only tents no cars. Where do you park your car and how far will you have to lug your stuff to Tent only? I feel like that could be a lot of work to drag that much stuff from your car to however far Tent only is.
What has two thumbs and just bought his ticket for Bonnaroo 2011? This guy!! See you there, as it stands I am going solo. Anyone in the Chicago Area PM me if you are going maybe we can form a caravan to the farm.

check out the 'That Tent' forum for all things camping and survival and the 'This Tent' forum for possible rides/caravans from others in your area.
So I'm pretty sure that I've decided I have to experience a bonnaroo. I want to go so bad, but I'm not sure that I'll really be able to get any of my friends to commit to going. I'm a sophmore in college in Tuscaloosa, AL and Bonnaroo isn't really the style around here. I'm wondering if I should just go for it and go by myself, but I'm worried that I may end up feeling isolated all weekend.
Any experienced advice?
You will be welcomed with open arms, as long as you don't poison any trees Bama. Just kidding. There is no way to be isolated at Bonnaroo. When you get to camp, offer your neighbors a beer or whatever and they will become your best friends for the weekend. Get to know all of them that you can, that way you will always know someone going to the same show as you. Plus you'll have more people to watch your things while you're away. Unfortunately, there have been reports of break-ins over the past few years.
This will be my 8th Bonnaroo, and 2008 was the only year I went alone. It was an awesome experience. Met a lot of new people, got to see all the shows I wanted to see, and danced like a freakin' maniac with no one but strangers to judge. And to add to what everyone else has already said, I have never seen so much as a fist fight in all my years on the farm, so it's very safe. Even if the worst happen (such as like losing your cell phone, or running out of supplies), I guarantee there will be plenty willing to help. Have fun

i havent done roo by myself but i have done a rothbury and some other fests by myself an its not that bad... at least around here you can hook up with the inforoosters in tent only and you have a base. theres also a group called solo rooers, which is a group of all people going to roo solo. it might be worth while to follow up with them too
