When I saw that countdown ticker, I couldn't help but think about some of the laid back posters here racing against the clock. The time frame they gave us was much too small considering the demographic Bonnaroo targets.
You would think they would find it important to have servers that can handle the traffic. That just sucked. I've never had that much trouble buying my ticket.
tens of thousands of people all logging onto your website and trying to do financial transactions all at the same time can do this. I don't think there's too much they can do.
Actually there is. They could host the site from much larger cluster, if only for the first hour or two when they know tons of people are going to be buying tickets. Some places, like Amazon Web Services charge by the hour, so they could use something like that which could handle the load for an hour or two then fall back to their standard servers.
This is just poor planning on someone's part. It's 2011 and we have cloud computing readily available, there's really no excuse for a server getting bogged down at a time when you know you're going to get an extraordinary amount of traffic. Sorry, /computer geek rant off.
for everyone complaining about the server issues...i think a lot of it had to do with the fact that they didn't start selling tickets 15 minutes like they've done every year for as long as i can remember. also, it doesnt help when people are getting the direct link to the page to buy tickets instead of actually waiting in the "waiting room". that puts more stress on the server as well. it took me two tries to get through but i'll be there. seems like everyone got their ticket so there isn't really any need to complain.

well I guess I'm a sucker. I logged in immediately and they put me in that waiting room for 45 minutes. By the time it was my turn all of tier 2 and 3 were sold out. I feel I got screwed by following the rules. I got my tickets but paid full price and wasted almost an hour of my time staring at the computer screen. I would have liked to have known about the shortcut around the waiting room.

this will be my 8th year going, and every year except for this year, tickets went on sale 10-15 minutes before the announced time. pretty sure the "waiting room" stopped this from happening, even though the banner on the website was updated at about 11:45 this morning saying tickets were on sale now.

Hmm...this will be my 7th year and I can't say I ever recall them going on sale that early, but maybe I'm off on that!

The "Buy" button didn't appear until noon, right on the dot. I was in the main calendar area hitting refresh. The only time I remember tickets going on sale early was in 2006, but I think that was the only year I bought on the first day.

I bought tickets early one year, 2007 or 2008. It was only like 10 minutes early, though. I don't think I've seen it since then, but I usually buy the presale tickets, it just slipped my mind last year.

I was queued at 11:59. When I got through T2 was already gone. Took 15 minutes to try to get T3, then I had 5 seconds left to enter my CC info due to website lag. Then I was back at square one... I just left and came back an hour later, T3 was sold out at that point so I got T4. They should consider hosting the sales part of the site on a beefier outside server...

Woo hooo!!! 5 T3 tickets bought, RV+companion purchased....5 gals heading to Bonnaroo for the first time!! I don't know, but this might be a sell out by the talk I hear of friends wanting to go for the first time.
We also got a camping spot in Chattanooga for the 8th!!

Yeah, this was the most stressful ticket buying day for me since '04. (I was stressed then because the Bonnaroo NE was cancelled in '03 and then standard Roo was promptly sold out.)
Instead of chilling in my comfy office until noon I ended up in a front line area at work and had to pull my laptop out there and hope that nobody needed to be checked in or out. (Luckily they didn't!)
Then there was the whole waiting room fiasco and I wasn't sure if it was the website or my laptop since the laptop tends to freeze up randomly and the only way I know it has happened is to refresh... which would send me back to the end of the line. I ended up opening another window and getting the same message. In the end, I clicked on the link from my confirmation from last year which took my right in. (This is the same way that "r" posted.) I finished the transaction and my first two windows were still in the waiting room!
To address two other points brought up here, I also remember buying tickets about ten minutes early in past years. I guess I'm glad that I wasn't banking on that this year.
Also, I thought Tier Two sold out in presale? I was surprised to even see it listed as an option when I got in. I went in expecting Tier Three and that's what I got so I guess I'm at peace with the snafu.
Glad to see so many people are getting tickets so early this year!

Got my Tier 3 ticket after sitting in limbo for nearly 45 minutes and almost running out of time because the pages were taking so long to load! Thank goodness that's over!
