I have a new bacon creation. Made a batch today. Brace yourself: Chocolate coated Bacon Maple Honeycomb Candy.
Because I can (or I'm an insane motherquacker).
Ok my theory is that you can never go wrong if bacon is involved. Bacon makes everything taste good. If it wouldnt kill me I would eat bacon everyday.
Um, I'm pretty positive I've gained 5 pounds making the candy itself. I feel gross. I've been eating it all too. Remind me to post pictures at some point.
You know, for those who aren't so big on the whole bacon thing (to think that I was vegetarian all of a year and a half ago, and I would have said that's quacking nutzo) it can sound off-putting.
However, bacon aids sweet end of the spectrum by adding sodium and (what the japanese call the 5th flavour profile) umami (which is well... that meaty, earthy flavour). Salty/sweet things always taste better (think salty caramel, trail mix, a Snickers bar, Reese's). Salt just makes sweet things taste better.
For my candy, the bacon and chocolate work well together because you've got the salty and sweet combo, and the maple honeycomb toffee works well because (with the bacon) it brings about that familiar taste of breakfast and adds sound to it. And as we all know, being able to hear your food makes it that much more delicious (potato chips, pop rocks, a fresh apple).
So all in all, I feel like i may be on to something with this candy...
I don't know about a deep fryer but I just saw a battery operated margarita maker....yummy
I want one but not for $200, here's the link in case someone is feeling flush. My only problem is that it says it makes "up to 80 drinks on a single charge" and I don't know what the rest of you would use...haha
Seriously, in '09 at BamaRoo we the BEST HUSHPUPPIES I have ever eaten. Considering I'm from Memphis that's saying something.
And pups are veg friendly. Unless you add bacon. Bacon is currently trendy and that is limiting my choices in weird and unexpected foods. Ice cream, popcorn, cookies.... Probably very tasty, I just don't partake.
Anyways, these HUSHPUPPIES do not have bacon. I'm going to have to bribe/blackmail Bamabelle into bringing them. YUM!!
If only roo allowed bikes in campsites. A co-op that I work at, we built a bike with a blender on the back that is powered when you ride. I could see that being a big hit at roo.
So should I bring my usual home-made salsa? Or y'all want something different this year?
BRING THE SALSA!
Done! Just for Troo ;D And I remember there were a couple of other people that really liked it...all I know is I have NEVER brought any back - LOL! SO salsa it is...and I"m sure I'll chip in some mimosas and other goodies too. But count on the salsa, chips and some kind of drink from me

And Bunny consider HUSHPUPPIES from Greenbrier an official "on the list!" No meat products for the vegetarians...cooked in peanut oil for anyone sensitive but OMG!!! The BEST thing you put in your mouth! Seriously! ANd I will bring Alabama White BBQ sauce for dipping...so how many do you think I should bring? It is looking like I will have the means to heat them up in an oven before bringing them so they should be just like fresh....just help me figure out how many we need. I got 12 Dozen for Bamaroo that year and we had a bunch left over. They are pretty dirt cheap so I can get like 20 dozen for less than $30 so it's not a bit investment...just let me know ;D
Let me just say: I am a HUGE fan of Southern food. It's a rare treat in NJ (granted, nowhere near as good as the real thing) and nonexistent in Canada. And now with all this food talk, I may be more excited for brunch than for Roo (but not really, that would be ludicrous).
We will get some flags up as well. Plus we will try to have camp where we usually do so we can mark it on a map.
I'll photoshop a map for everyone. Once we get the new map, I'll make one. Showing the parade route, etc.
No worries.
In retrospect what if we cant get camped where we have it marked? I would hate for some random people in TO to have inforoosters walking around looking for us all weekend. I guess I could fire up my weather balloon but I am not sure I want to haul a helium cylinder to TO with all my other crap.
