To those of you who do use CamelBaks.... Have any of you carried the packs with the 3L water reservoir? Did you find it comfortable, or was the weight too much??
I plan on getting a CamelBak ;D that also be carrying the Center Roo necessities and I was wondering how those who carry them feel after days of lugging all that around?
I feel, I will find it worth the efforts to carry, but don't want to literally wear myself down. Here, www.camelbak.com/Sports-Recreation/Packs/2011-Aventura.aspx is the pack I have been eying due to the adjustable swivel straps. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

go Camelbak if you can swing it money wise. Perfect size pack for roo. Water, and enough room to put the essentials in. Plastic water bottles are Leno-y for the world, and price. Stainless steel is great unless you're filling up at the troughs and then the scent of the sulfur gets stuck in it. No bueno. Especially if you dump it out and fill up in Centeroo - you're still stuck with the scent unless you can find someone with dish soap.
As for the question about the 3L - that's what I got, and it wasn't terrible at all. You get used to everything at roo. The camelbak, the heat, the exhaustion...no worries

This year will be my first year and I just got the smaller Camelback Lobo on steepandcheap.com because of the recommendations of so many people on this forum. Hopefully it works out.

I recently bought a hydropack after seeing a bunch of people with them last year. It seemed like the most logical choice because carrying a water bottle, or anything for that matter, kinda sucks.

I've been debating on getting a camelback, I'm afraid it will not be comfortable. Any suggestions for a somewhat smaller one, considering I'm only five foot. Don't wanna be weighed down by it.
^There are girly-fit CamelBaks. I'm 5'1" (yay short people!) and I have a CamelBak Day Star... the straps and pack are definitely sized for a female's body. Here are a few women's styles: www.ebags.com/category/women/20021506

Exactly; you bring it in empty and fill it at one of Centeroo's water stations.
I bring my Camelbak but I always bring an empty water bottle and a couple of those 1-shot Crystal Light/Gatorade/Kool-Aid mix packets. Fill with Centeroo water, shake, and enjoy.
If I bought a new Camelbak, is it ok to use it without washing and whatnot? I know I might have to deal with some plastic taste, but I'll be fine with that, I think... This is the 1st Camelbak I've had and I feel like I might not have enough motivation to clean it or anything before using it for the first time.

I tried a CamelBak my first year and didn't like to because my back felt super hot all day because the one I had had terrible ventilation. I usually walk in with two bottles of water and just refill them at the stations throughout the day.
I got my first Camelbak specifically for Starscape (one-day fest in MD the weekend before Roo) and Bonnaroo. I've never owned one but I'm super excited to have it. The one I got was like ~$80 with shipping and it's geared for mountain biking. So it's smaller, has a decent size tank, and it's got two zip pockets and one bigger pocket that can be expanded with straps. That way I can hold and conceal my smaller belongings securely and manage to stay hands free. I def recommend!
I got mine for $30! woo! Meant for women so the straps are S shaped, soft lining on the straps, etc.
I'm thinkin of takin it to Starscape too... but I guess I'd have to clean in between? I leave for Roo on Monday morning. Lots to do on Sunday after sleeping during the day, lol... I probably wont get home until 7am Sunday. Leaving 10am or so Monday.
Last year I brought a High Sierra camelback (er, "hydration pack), and I will be wearing it everywhere again this year. The water is not the best tasting thing ever, but it is very drinkable IMHO, and not a big deal worth worrying about. And I agree wih the other folks about bringing some frozen bottled water. If still sealed you can take it in and use it for ice, plus it is good for the drive home or at camp. 2 liters is a nice size - not heavy, and any more than that and it will get warm and you'll probably want to dump it before you finish it.
I've noticed that Walmart sells some generic/house brand camelbacks. I can't attest to the quality of them, but they are fairly cheap if you can't justify springing for a known brand. I can't imagine not having one.
One semi-unrelated item that some people insist upon but most don't bring: something to sit on in Centeroo. A picnic blanket works, as do those low little folding stools. I just found a beach mat that is about 2x6 feet, has a nylon cover and foam padding for a little cushioning. Probably doesn't weigh more than a pound or two. It should be great, since the ground and grass in Centeroo are not all that conducive to laying and sitting. Just something else to consider.

I bought the Coleman Max (Hydration bladder) for this year after how unbearably hot it was last year. I always carry a backpack anyways and this way, Less water bottles and better hydration. It has a 2l bladder and a place for some items.

Got a camelbak and my wife will carry a stainless bottle. Plastic bottles are crazy wasteful and if you can't handle the sulfur taste of the 'Roo water try some sort of mixer. I'm bringing MIO, saw the commerical and picked some up at the store. It's a liquid drink mix just like the powdered stuff mentioned above, but no aspartame, so no worries about cancer in lab rats. Great flavors and not too expensive. Check it out.
In my preparation for Bonnaroo, I've come across a small dilemma that some of you experienced roo-ers could help with.
Should I simply invest in a lot of bottled water and always carry some in my backpack?
Should I invest in a stainless steel water bottle that I can continuously re-fill with Roo water?
OR, should I go all the way and get a CamelBak?
I'm leaning more toward the options that do not include plastic bottles, for the sake of not generating as much trash.
The gf and I took our CamelBaks last year with the 100oz bladder. Wonderful idea. We wandered around with those in Centeroo and whatnot. We left our Nalgenes back at camp and used them there.
This is roughly what my M.U.L.E. looked like, and there was still plenty of room to throw a flask, sunscreen, and some snacks in as well.

I used my camelbak last year. I went through 140 oz of water each day so using bottled water would have been more than 11 a day and a pain to keep restocking or refilling all through the day. With the camelbak I filled it in the morning at camp, then once in the afternoon in centeroo. Some advice if you are getting a camelbak, get one with the insulated hose. They are meant for colder climates but work awesome at roo. The insulation keeps the sun from beating down on the hose and superheating that first couple sips every time you drink.

True, the first few sips are annoyingly warm without the insulated tubing cover.
Also, I drank a buttload of water--probably filled up my 100oz bladder a couple times (just at Centeroo), and was probably peeing every 45mins to an hour. I did just fine.
My gf's sister, however, I think only drank one Nalgene (32oz) on Sunday (the whole flippin' day!), and ended up passing out (unbeknownst to me until after we were back at camp for the night) waiting for the porta pottys. Her husband blamed it on taking a couple puffs of the no-nos (her first time). He's very anti no-no's, but apparently knows nothing about physiology. . .
Bring a CamelBak and stay hydrated, is the moral of that story.

Yep, which is why I'm advocating the CamelBak--water will (hopefully) always be available and on your back, as you'll have to miss out on music less to fill up, so there's no excuse not to drink up and stay hydrated. Dehydrated, you're going to have a bad time.

Carrying the 100oz is no problem. Just the weight of the water is only six pounds, and you don't need to fill it all the way if you don't want to. A 10 pound pack that sits close to your body isn't annoying at all. It can get hot, but my mule has a ventilated back, so it's not too bad. Even when you find a spot to sit, you can take the thing off. Very necessary, I feel.
I say all 3. Frozen bottles at the camp, camelbak for all the above reasons, steel bottle as a backup store and/or to make mixed drinks in. My camelbak is the Woman's Day Star 70 oz (I only know this because I saw it in a link a few posts back). It's comfortable (I'm 5'4), not too heavy, has lots of room for everything else that I want to carry around... and it's a good pillow
The only time that I had a major issue getting water is at What stage on Sunday... it was slower than a dribble.
I also probably have an unnatural obsession with my camelbak.. it sleeps on the pillow next to me every night. Oddly reminiscent of the great Nalgene obsession of 2004
