Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
So this is my 3rd Roo. I have spontaneously given stuff away in the past, but this year I'm going to plan on giving 1 thing away every day In Centeroo. The fun is the anticipation of waiting to see "Who will it be? When will it happen?" Kinda like a weird easter egg hunt.
If you're up for it, share with us what you will give away!
This year I'm giving away:
1) The shirt off my back: A shirt I bought from a concert in 1996 that I've worn 3 times. It's in pristine condition. I went to a Virgin Music Festival a few years ago and deeply regret not taking it off and giving it to this girl who really wanted it.
2) A baseball cap done up with glow paint. Ppl are always running around without hats and getting burned. The night time glow will be a nice bonus.
3) A pack of glow-gear. Necklace, bracelet, whatever. I'll ziploc a baggie of toys ready to give to the person who "feels right" for it.
4) 1 drink. I will listen or watch for someone who needs a lemonade or whatever, and offer to buy them one. A simple gesture. But if there were 10,000 people looking to give a lemonade to someone in need, maybe we could prevent something bad from happening this year.
At Virgin Fest this past year, some woman gave me a fold-up bamboo fan when I complimented hers. She said her husband is always laughing at her for giving away fans, but it was just the sweetest thing! And so very welcome on that hot, hot day.
I am so buying a mess of those and will hand them out to randoms all weekend.
I have often given away or seen things given away at a festival. It's an awesome idea and you just feel good making somebody have a better experience or being on the receiving end of a such a positive experience. Great thread mattseven.

This is awesome. It reminds me of when I was in Russia in the 80s, it was tradition to give small gifts to new people you met (little pins, pens, tzotchkes)... made an instant connection.
I was planning on bringing those little mini sunscreen bottles, the sample size ones, to keep in my purse and give to people who look like they need them. As someone whose skintone could be charitably called 'paper', I've been saved many a time by people who shared sunscreen.
Also going to bring extra grilling food and beer to share at my campsite. My parents are caterers so I'm totally unable to cook for less than a huge crowd but I'm going to Roo solo... hoping my neighbors will be cool and want to share a meal.
Great idea Mattseven! Like MizV I usually bring extra food and a coffee bar (various creamers/milk flavors etc) for my neighbors. But I love the idea of just giving items to random people in Centeroo...initially thinking a mistymate to a new Roo friend in need, small bottles of hand sanitizer (always need that in centeroo)...and bandaids..every Roo I see someone in need of Bandaids!

I too am always very generous with my neighbors, its actually a bonnaroo tradition at this point that we all drink crown royal together night one. anyways, i like vibe , you could be creating your own pay if forward
Fabulous thread! This is our third Roo and we always give away glowy stuff. Often I'm up on the access platform so we just throw glow stuff to the people around us. We always give away beer because we always bring more than we actually drink at camp. The other thing I "give away" is contest info. Whenever I find one, and believe me I look, I post it. Somebody has to win why not another inforooster
Dcbee I was thinking of doing fans as well, okay with you?
And may all your giving come back to you when you least expect it and most need it.
4) 1 drink. I will listen or watch for someone who needs a lemonade or whatever, and offer to buy them one. A simple gesture. But if there were 10,000 people looking to give a lemonade to someone in need, maybe we could prevent something bad from happening this year. [/quote]
That is an excellent point! I think I will join you in this.
Never been to one of these kinds of fests before, but when I go to other music events, I tend to bring an array of candy wherever I go to give to random people I meet. I think im gonna do that here too.
At smaller fests with no glass prohibition, I usually carry a bottle of Old Grandad to share as well, but I don t think they make that in plastic bottle form, sadly.

Well done, man. I hope your positivity catches on.
I'm going to give away giant smoke ring machines so every one can have a halo like Scrog.
Back in reality, Mayo mentioned that Bandana's are great in a pinch. Going to try to clear a little time to create some Roo 2011 Bandana's and pass them out where they look like they are needed. Have also decided that anytime I break down and buy a bottle of water in Centeroo because I've gone through what i brought in, will buy two and pay it forward.

Such a fantastic idea. I'm definitely going to do the buy someone a lemonade thing. I needed one bad last year during Regina Spektor (the ice was more of a savior than the three sips of lemonade in the cup), so will look out for someone thirsty on a hot afternoon day.
I really liked the little random acts of kindness going on at Roo. My favorite thing was the people going around with spray bottles and misting people. It always felt so great. During Spektor I was sitting in the grass and this girl with a spray bottle came up to me and asked if I wanted to be misted. I did, natch. She did my wrists and neck and face. It happened out of nowhere and was so nice. I think maybe I'll bring a container of candy and condoms and set them out for people to take.
haha, gabfrab... "heat superheroes"! It was damn hot at that show, for sure. Some kids in VIP kept getting iced water bottles out of their cooler, poking a hole in the top and spraying them over us. It was nice.
Anyway, one thing I gave a lot away of last year were those little "single serving" lemonade/drink mixes. They're inexpensive, easy to carry... and everyone seemed to appreciate receiving them. Will probably bring a bunch to give away again this year.

I'll give away band-aids to those poor souls who wear bad shoes. Also, we carry extra gold-bond for the dudes who forget to bring some. Most of all, I always carry extra t-p and wet wipes for my gal pals - chicks gotta stick together...
If someone asks me if they can buy a cigarette off of me I usually give them whatever I have left in an open pack for free. I limit it to once a day though. And I always offer the people around me sunblock when I am re-applying throughout the day.

Great quote. I also like the lighter idea. I don't smoke either but do that sometimes too. I live in Portland so sometimes walk around downtown and give out cigarettes to any hobo I come across. Even if I don't have any cigs on me, it seems like people often need a light.
