Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
This is a letter I wrote for anyone to read. I originially put it up on another site. I really really want to go to Bonnaroo this year, but this letter explains it all.
Dear some random person,
Everyone has goals in life, well everyone I’ve met anyway, and most of then have more than one. There are plenty of things I want to do in my lifetime, and right now you’re going to read about one.
Ever since I found out that Eminem is performing at Bonnaroo 2011 I’ve wanted to go solely for that reason (okay, and because it would be a great experience, and there are a ton of other bands that would be great to see, but mainly for Eminem) . At first my friend and I planned on going, and we diligently crunched numbers figuring out how much it would all cost. Many factors got in the way though. Gas prices for one, as everyone knows are completely ridiculous, and would put a big hole in our pockets as we are travelling from New York to Tennessee.
Also, not paying attention to every word closely, when we re-read the ticket prices and realized that they were over $250. Both my friend and I are college students and simply don’t have that money. I’m not asking for money though from anyone, and if that’s what your impression is, I’d probably be laughing at that too.
What I’m saying is that I’m just wondering if there are ways (besides a job, I have one of those) to make some money?
Seeing Eminem, especially when this is the only event so far that I know of that he’s playing at this year, would be amazing to go to. It’s one of my goals. He’s an icon all over the world, and his story is intriguing. He’s been through more than a lot of people have or ever will, and the way he puts it into words and songs is one of the reasons I enjoy his music so much. I could probably go on about it all day if I really wanted tom but for the sake of this letter and it’s reader, I won’t.
I’m not saying “Oh please somebody help me go, I would just die if I don’t get to see him. My whole life would be ruined if I didn’t go!”
That’s not AT ALL what I’m saying.
Yes I would love to see him perform.
But no, my life would not be over if I didn’t go.
I’d be upset, but I’m in the mindset that I’m not going right now, so it wouldn’t be any worse.
This wouldn’t just be about me though. We live in the 21st century and the population is all about helping other people. I really enjoy helping others and knowing I made some kind of difference. Take a look at “The Buried Life” on MTV, they accomplish their goals and have helped so many different people along the way.
If I end up finding a way to go, if I go because of advice, assistance, or help from anyone else, I will do everything I can to help someone else. I will volunteer for something, donate to charity, participate in a community event, or anything else I come across.
This means a lot to me, which means there’s someone else out there who has something that means a lot to them. If anyone has any ideas or comments I would love to read them. Suggestions are always welcome.
Going to Bonnaroo would mean so so much to me. I’m just looking for a way to afford it. :/
For my friend and I to go, here’s the $ breakdown:
Gas: (estimating at $4.00/gallon with a 22 mpg vehicle) $336
Tickets: $540 for two people
Food: $100
Misc.: (souvenirs, necessities, emergencies, etc.) around $150
Total: $1,126
Again, if I end up going, I will do everything I can to help someone else out. This isn’t just a fake promise so I can get what I want and leave either, this is a REAL promise. I’ll even go out and give my Facebook. I keep it pretty updated with what I do, if someone is so inclined they can go and see.
If you’re asking:
“Is seeing Eminem worth all of this?” In short, yes.

eminem should not be the only reason to go, hes not an icon or intriguing and should never be considered that.. i had a bad drug problem, went to rehab after rehab, eventually found a good girl and did that thing that everyone is "supposed" to do. what was it again? ohh yeah grow up. the only thing he did was take the long way around to where he was supposed to be. and thats no ones fault but his own. and the only reason he had a rough life was because his mother shouldn't have opened her legs if she couldn't take care of a child, and planned on raising him in the ghetto.. ok sorry bout my rant.. im a first timer this year and find my self feeling like im going to go crazy sometimes when i get thinking about it. i was basically in ur boat last year just not enough time and money.. but you do know theres a payment plan right? that might help. or maybe a close friend relative that would give u a loan. or maybe find someone willing to trade an extra tic for something you got.. theres all sorts of ways to get cash you just need to get creative and think out of the box.. sorry about "my opinon" on em but i had to see it.
you can volunteer for bonnaroo, or one of the food vendors, it makes the ticket free but u gotta do work. i didn't read your whole thing there, but in case u didn't know, know u do.

Hah, it's fine. I know a lot of people don't like him, my mom isn't a big fan either. She kinda thinks the same way you do about it. I never said he was THE only reason I want to go either. I said there were other reasons too by the way. Anyway...
yeah, I do know there's a payment plan, but eventually I'll have to pay for the whole thing. I'm looking into the trading stuff, or selling stuff I don't use anymore. Thanks for the info though, I appreciate it.
P.S - I love Mumford & Sons, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Neon Trees (1983 is my ringtone), Matt & Kim, and Atmosphere, amongn many others.
........why didn't you go to the Home & Home shows he did at Yankee's Stadium like everyone else that wanted to see him from the area?
I didn't even know there was one. And going to an Eminem concert in a stadium just for him honestly, kind of freaks me out. Plus, the shows were right when I was starting my freshman year of college, terrible timing.

If you volenteer at roo you get a ticket that saves you five hundred. If you car pool with one or two people your gas is cut in half. Take those two suggestions and you've got over half of your worries taken care of.
- sell stuff on craigslist. you'd be amazed how much crap you can get rid of for good money if you pitch it right.
- offer lessons in something. i used to teach kids to play lacrosse on the weekends. parents will gladly pay 20 or 30 bucks and hour to get their youngsters out of the house. or teach old people to set up their computers and stuff.
- do the dirty work. rent a pressure washer, mow lawns, paint, etc.
- maybe start a kickstarter? you've basically already asked for help here, so tell your friends and family what goods and services you'll give them in exchange for cash up front.
best of luck man. if you want it bad enough, you'll do whatever it takes to earn it. don't do anything illegal though, that's the number one best way to guarantee you wont be on the farm.

What's been said before. Sign up to volunteer. You may miss some shows but at least you'll get to see Em. Try to carpool down with someone (check the forums... there's rides going from everywhere). You don't NEED to buy souvenirs if it's not in your budget. Also food isn't nearly as expensive as one would think. I think when I went in '09 I spent like $40 total. I basically ate 6-8 grilled cheeses a day priced at $1 each. People sell crazy cheap meals. My friend and I did tent-only so we packed the bare minimum and just roughed it. We spent like 17 hours a day in Centeroo anyway.
So depending on where you are coming from and how much you'll get charged gas money for the carpool you could really make it on under a hundred per person.
Just monitor it and see if anyone is looking for a ride/has extra room. Or if two groups just want to carpool. And just wait till you find the right person. My friend and I are considering carpooling with someone who needs a ride from the inforoo boards (if we don't find anyone we know going) just so we have an extra driver or two in case we get tired... so we wouldn't charge them very much at all.
Just do post festival volunteering, you will spend a couple of days cleaning up and then get your ticket money back. From everything I have heard it is a valuable learning experience as well.
I d say there are simple steps to take that will make your trip affordable.
1) Volunteer
2) Find a few people driving down from NY and catch a ride. More people in the car = less gas money and a better experience (hopefully). There is a forum set up on here that has people from all over the US and Canada who are looking for people to travel with.
3)Bring your own food. This might cut down on a bit of the cost?
Other than that, you will most likely have to spend some $$$ to attend a festival like this one. You have 3 months...save, save, save!

Obviously Volunteering makes the easiest sense but their are also a ton of contests for free tickets to enter as well.
Do you (or did you) get a Tax return back? That could help.
Have any college books to sell back? Again another idea...
Bringing your own food, bottled water and water containers (remember water is free at the water stations) would help a TON.
Have a birthday coming up? maybe this is a good time to get your friends and family together to help for the ultimate birthday present.
the one thing I REALLY want to stress however is that you will need Camping Gear and things that you did not allow money for (unless you have such things already). Please think about these things and re-figure your necessities amount by at least 100 dollars more.
I like the idea of how you wanna get there through good deeds, giving back and such. I hope your Karma sees you to the farm.

Am I the only one that finds it funny that there are so many s with less than 10 posts and coco, but not so much for the s? This is regardless of content of post.
BTW, this is in no way bitter or sarcastic, it's actually funny.
New girl says, "I wanna see Eminem!" Desperate man clicks coco. New guy says, "I wanna see Eminem!" Desperate man skims through thread looking for more s.
Okay, maybe I haven't posted enough to seem like a veteran, but I've been lurking creepily in the Inforoo shadows for over a year now.

- volunteer - easiest and best way to get there for free (technically free once you get your money back)
- garage sale
- ask for a loan.....from parents or even a small bank loan/line of credit
- work more shifts at your job, get a second job, don't go out and spend money, be a loser for a month or two but save up for Roo
- enter bonnaroo contests......many contests (through bonnaroo and magazines and websites) raffle off tickets. not a good bet that you'll win but it's worth a shot.
- find things that people are giving away (the FREE section of craigslist) and pick them up and sell them somewhere.

Just find yourself a low interest credit card, you can chunk tickets, gas, and trip food etc. on that...you might be paying it back till next year but hey, as long as you've got it zeroed out by next year you'll have it to fund your trip again!!.....Some might say it's not the most responsible method of getting there...but you'll get there!
Sell Plasma, sounds bad, but it is $45 a pop and you can do it like 6-8 times a month. Got me through some broke ass times in college.
This is the easy answer, you will look like a junkie, but twice a week between now and Bonnaroo should get you close to a grand. Easiest way in the world to make 20 bucks an hour.
But anyway, in 2007 it was The Police that brought me. I figured I could spend $200+ to see live on their own, or pay some $300 fer a ticket to this music festival I'd heard about in TN. Easy decision fer me and I've never looked back.
The advice everyone else has given so far is great. Contests are easy to enter, and I know of at least one forum member here who won a contest last year and was then able to go. Volunteerin' is also a good way to go about it and is more guaranteed than contests. I had a friend volunteer this past summer fer 'Roo and he enjoyed it and the free ticket!

Let me tell you something...I had friends that had been going to the Roo for several years and i had wanted to go but there was always something that kept that from happening.
The year was 2008 and once again i wanted to go with my friends to the farm but as June came i was pretty convinced that yet another opportunity was going to pass me by. I had finished the semester and was doing some odd jobs just a few days before the Roo when i got a phone call from someone special who said that they had the chace to get a ticket for me if i was interested at cost and i said "the heck with it i really want to go so yes i will buy it". so with 2 days to go i worked my but off and was able to get some supplies together and with about $100 in hand i went.
It was the most wonderful time of my life! I have not nor will i ever again miss this magical event!
What im telling you is that where there is a will there is a way. All these wonderful people that are giving you advice are some of the best people on earth. Listen to them and you cant go wrong. Dont worry about forgetting anything because Bonnaroo is as close to a utopian society as there is on earth. There is always someone who will provide you with anything u could possibly need.
So my advice to you is that you do whatever it takes to get to Bonnaroo as it will be more than worth the effort. This is guarenteed to be a life changing event for you and your friend!
I have to testify - I won a contest last year and not only was I able to take friends but since we had one empty slot I worked out a deal to help cover the taxes with someone on the board who REALLY wanted to go. Put your mind to it.
Also, I didn't see what state you're from but recyclable cans/bottles?
It may sound stupid but if you draw yourself one of those little thermometer like things that they use for fundraisers and fill in as you save it could help. We used one when we were saving for the down payment on the mortgage and it helps keep you from spending. Good luck and see you on the farm.

Where there is a will there is a way! There are tons of ways to make money, but what you really need is to SAVE your money. Don't spend any money unless you absolutely have to!
Contests, enter ALL of them no matter your chances of winning. The more you try the better your chances.
Something I did for this year is save change. I had a HUGE change jar I've been filling since around Oct. of last year. It was getting heavy so I took it to the Coinstar this past weekend. Most of it was pennies but I still had almost $80. I'm going to keep saving change and use all the money I save for extra fun stuff at Bonnaroo
Good luck to everyone who is trying to get a ticket. Whatever you have to do, trust me, it's totally worth it. (And not just for Eminem.)
I've been putting back around $20 a week that I would usually spend on booze, canned corn, and fast food. Stay away from bars/clubs and limit your driving (walk or bike).
Put all the suggestions in this thread together and you could make a small fortune before Bonnaroo.
