There's such a thing as a bad arepa? I live in Florida and we've got 'em all over. I don't think I've ever had a bad one. Take it from the chef, arepas rock!
I think you got a bad one Spooky - there was one night that I had one like you describe - very bland - just not right - but because the very first one I got was so good - the next day I tried from a diff place - it was delish
I had my first one during Clutch - my vegetarian sister and I were STARVING so she went out to forage for food and came back with these. Said they were the first non-meat food she could find and didn't really know what they were. So I ate it in the dark and the combination of tastes and textures was just so interesting - one of those foods you want to keep eating to make sure you rememered the taste from bite to bite.
