This will be my first year at roo, I have read that after each band they clear the pit out and then let the next in line in. My question is how does this exactly work? Is the line to get in on the left side of the stage or both? And is this done for all the stages at roo or just some? Thanks ahead of time.
The pit which you are referring to only exists at the largest stage (The What Stage). Yes, it gets cleared after every show, so at least for the big acts in the evening, a line forms prior to the show (usually when the previous act is still playing). In my experience, it's usually not too difficult to actually get into the pit, because a lot of people seem to not understand how it works. A lot of people think it's VIP only or something. There is a separate pit on each side of the stage and it seems to be a little easier to get into the pit on the left side (far side) of the stage, because fewer people want to walk all the way over there.
Other than the main stage, there are no pits, anyone can get as close as they please to any other stages. Granted, once you get too close, you're going to be packed in pretty tight with other people and that can get uncomfortable in normal Bonnaroo temperatures, but that's all up to you. Just get there early if you're planning on getting close. It can be difficult to get through the crowd at more popular shows.
At the tents it is a matter of timing. You want to get to the show with a little time left in the show before it and start working your way into the tent. Once the show is over most people start to empty out of the tent and you can usually work youself pretty close at this point. The big thing is to not be that a**hole that pushes through the crowd while the show is going on.
these two folks pretty much covered the pertinent points, so i just want to say you'll need to prioritize a little if you want to get to the front of the stage. obviously, it takes extra effort to work your way to the front of a stage so i would advise you only try to get up front for the bands you really want to see. you'll save some energy and it you'll be a lot more comfortable, especially when you hit that point in the late afternoon when you just need to take 20-minute sit break.
also, it will be a lot easier to work your way through big crowds around stages if you offer people a refreshing spritz from a water bottle. it's always worked for me and people sure seem to appreciate it.
Thats great info guys, thanks. Eminem,Wiz, and Lil Wayne, are so far the only ones I really want to see up that close. OK and My Morning Jacket, Mumford & Sons.... Anyways, Em I think is the only one that will be for sure on the main stage so far. I was kinda planning on camping half a day for the line to see Em anyways. Silent Disco is a must I know..
just go to the left side of the stage and wait in line during the artist preceeding Eminem. you'll get up there. don't be a jerkstore and expect to get squished, but it will work out. i got up there for phish and jay-z that way, no problem. and they let people into the front section when other people leave, so you may have to wait for 20 minutes to get in, but it sounds like you'll wait for em.
and this is just me here but abosolutely don't waste half a day waiting for any artist. if you're just camped out waiting for someone to come on you're probably missing a performance by your new favorite artist. it's just not worth it when you can get up front with only about an hour or two's dedication.
^^^^ Yeah, it's a lot of time to spend missing fantastic bands just to see one up really close. It's bad enough to have conflicts without creating one to wait in a line.
