Good Morning! First I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all of the great advice I've found here! I think I'm just about prepared for my first trip. My only question is about the size of my tent, it's 10' by 16' when it's fully set up and I was wondering if this will be too big for the camping only spots? I don't want to crowd my fellow festival-goers so there might still be time to hit up a friend and borrow theirs. I was also wondering what my odds are of getting a camping only spot if we arrive around 6 on Thursday. Thanks!

I'm sure that most people would appreciate a smaller tent, but I guess it just depends on how many people you are bringing. The smaller the better and I don't think you will spend too much time in your tent anyway.
Were you talking 6am or pm? I'm trying to get there around 6am in hopes of getting a camping only spot.

6am - odds are great that you and your large tent will find a comfortable spot inside tent only
6pm - odds are slim that you and your large tent will find a comfortable spot inside tent only.
I agree with bizco... after about 7-8am, your tent becomes an oven, so you won't be wanting to spend a lot of time in your tent anyway. Unless you have 8 people or so with you (in one tent), a smaller tent is better.
Whoops. Probably should have added the pm part. But yeah my friend and I are getting in at 6pm ( I think) so it sounds like it's time to downsize the tent. Thanks for your responses! BTW, any idea on how the line is around 5pm on thursday?

Welcome to the board!
I can't say for sure what your wait will be around 5pm, but I would guess a couple of hours still. We came in after midnight last year and there was very little line, more of a steady flow into the camp area. Certainly, someone on here has come in around that time and can give you a better idea.

It's POSSIBLE you would still find room at 6pm, but I think chances are even if you found room for that tent it would be sort of crammed in a little gap between people who didn't necessarily intend to have another tent crammed in there, y'know? Plus, do you have an EZ-Up or some sort of shade canopy? If you do then that increases the size of the space you need to find, and if you don't, well, you should. Haha.
Like others said, I would basically go with the smallest tent that will comfortably fit your group - there's not a whole lot of reason to want it bigger and the smaller it is the easier it will be to find room somewhere.

We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'm now looking into how expensive a good EZ-up is and how easy it will be to fly it cross country! Just in case I do have to bring my giant tent how does the car camping area usually look size-wise? And how hours away do you think I'll have to park ;-)

Yes, if you're flying it would cost you much less to buy a good one upon arrival than they charge for extra luggage nowadays...
Your car space is either in front or behind your car and it is about 10 feet by 8-10 feet officially, but it usually runs larger than that.
First post, ya! been lurkin for awhile now, and have to say this site has been very valuable in terms of the information and the suggestion for buying gear at steepandcheap.com <-- I am addicted!
My question in regard to the quote above is are you entitled the space in front and behind your vehicle or just one or the other?
^ Typically, either front or back unless arrangement are made with people parking around you then its whatever configuration works out best for that pod of cars.

From my experience it's whatever you want it to be as long as you fit in the space. If you're arriving in a group of cars the possibilities are varied and communal space can be agreed upon.
ok, this is in regards to arrival time in tent only...im catching a bus from my hostel to the airport thurs morning in hopes to catch an early-ish shuttle to roo...it says it takes approx 90 mins to get there so if i arrive at roo between noon-1 should i be ok with finding a spot in tent camping or is it already too close for comfort in there?
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo

From what I've gathered on the boards, in previous years Tents Only fills up by Thursday evening. However, they let everybody know this year that you can now enter at 7pm on Wednesday, of which a lot (myself included) were unaware. Also, Tents Only opened sometime around or before noon on Thursday in the past, and it looks like TO is opening at 7pm on Wednesday, at least I think. I asked Gary Chardonnay to clarify, but he has yet to--it's slightly ambiguous using "camping only," as everyone is camping (except the day use people), so car camping vs. Tents Only is what I want clarified. I hope I made any sense at all.
There is another question on the info page asking about tent only opening at 7 and the answer is the festival grounds will open at 7 so it looks to me that tent only will be open early...I am willing to come down early but there are no shuttles until Thursday...I'm gonna have to figure this out soon...
Got a newbie question. So, I got a ride (thanks to the bonnaroo ride tool ) and I'm going with a nice kid and his cool sister. But I really wanna to bring my own tent (it's a small one for 2 people max); my question is: Is it ok to a car to bring 2 tents? Like They are going to have their own and I wanna have my little one close by. How does that work? If anyone have some tips, please, help me out.
This is my first year as well, and I'm in VIP camping so my question is similar but possibly different. I've been having a hard time finding any info about the size of tent that will work. I have a 10x13 tent. Is that going to be too big for VIP camping?
Our first year in GA we had one car, two tents and an EZ up and it all fit nicely. 6 man dome tent and I think a 4 man oblong tent and 10x10' EZ up in the center. Last year and the year prior in GA we had a MASSIVE tent, like 12x16 and both times it fit behind our car.
The smallest space you will have in GA is something the same width and length as your car. Park slightly wide to get more width, and length is usually longer than a car or truck length. We've never had too little room, and if you're nice to your neighbors and share your beer stash, they usually don't mind sharing common space.
