In regards to the footage being released, thats up to the artists management and/or record label. Bonnaroo has the rights to film and such, but as far as it being released to the public, they have little control of. I would like to know why we didn't get a dvd for last year, and based on my excitement over the lineup, I hope we get one this year.

Hmm, y'know, I don't think I've ever watched any of them. I have the 2008 and 2009 ones, but I could never bear to watch the 2008 one...would have been a real kick in the teeth considering I didn't end up able to go! But I don't think I've ever watched the 2009 one either...I should really do that. THINK I JUST MADE MY PLANS FOR TONIGHT. Wooo, exciting Friday night.
Anyway, I really do hope we get a dvd for this year. Despite the fact that I haven't watched the ones I have yet, I really do like having them as souvenirs. I kinda figure 2009 is only two years ago right now, but it'll be a lot more meaningful to me 20 years in the future! Hmmm, note to future self: make sure to transfer the dvds to something else before the dvd format becomes obsolete and unplayable.
I'll sign the petition so long as it's fer a quality DVD with at least two hours runtime, although more would be preferable. '08s DVD just leaves me wantin' more and I have yet to pick up '09s since I was kinda disappointed with the previous one.

09 had the greatest lineup ever... saw soooo many awesome shows. Only one that made the DVD was a mediocre phish song from their friday set I DIDN'T see... So dissapointing...

08's was so disappointing that I didn't bother with 09's. I've read that the earlier dvd's were worthwhile. Here's to hoping they make a dvd that doesn't blow.
It seems like a lot of fests have video crews there but never release dvds. it makes me sad
Sometimes they're long in the making. Mountain Jam just recently released a bunch of DVD's of shows from 2007 and 2008 and stuff.
As for all the video crews - there's always online streaming going on so sometimes that's what the crews are being used for.
Yeah this is so true. Bonnaroo takes forever to get you your DVDs.I still have not got any of the ones I bought.....The only one I got was the free one that came with the purchase of a ticket one year.
I guess I'm the odd one out but I really liked the 08 DVD and I thought the 03 one was weak...not including Neil was a big strike against it plus the artsy editing really got on my nerves. I haven't seen the 09 DVD.

As far as a snap-shot of the festival, they all serve a purpose. I bought the 04, 08 & 09 ones and got the awesome Krew of Roo one from 04 as well. The Krewe one is superior to the others, though. Really takes its time. Might have to pop it back in today...
Krewe of Roo feels like it has more of a narrative instead of a series of individual performances. It seems to have a lot more personal stories and whatnot. It may not be true, but that's how it feels to me. The official DVD is much more segmented, being chopped into four segments over two DVD's.
On the downside, the Krewe DVD is also significantly shorter (about an hour and forty minutes instead of three and a half hours) and doesn't have about half of the artist performances on the official DVD: Primus, Steve Winwood, Ween, Burning Spear, Ani DiFranco, moe., Galactic, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Gomez, Damien Rice, Praxis, Guster, Beth Orton, Los Lonely Boys, Chris Robinson & The New Earth Mud & Antigone Rising.
A couple of other differences:
* A different My Morning Jacket performance (Jim James' acoustic media tent performance of Golden > MMJ's Which Stage performance of Steam Engine in a downpour instead of the official version of One Big Holiday in the sun).
* A contrast of Dave Matthews' tour bus experience vs Black Keys' van experience
* A different Kings of Leon performance (Krewe's Happy Alone vs the official Trani). Also, Caleb doing his best Stillwater impression worrying that the band won't be cool on the DVD.
* The Krew DVD features about twenty minutes of Trey prepping with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra rehearsing & worrying, then the wait for his set in a monsoon, followed by "Prologue" instead of the performance of First Tube with his band featured on the official DVD
The Krewe DVD may best be a companion piece to the original but it seems to take its time more, which is kind of what the Bonnaroo experience is all about and what seems to set it aside from a lot of the other major festivals.
Yeah, 09 was not very good and that's the only one I've seen. I'd be into it this year if they put some actual effort into it. '09's seemed very hastily thrown together.
