Im always weary of first year festivals that have camping. The logistics of the festival itself will be tough to fully plan out an adjust on the fly when you didnt plan for something. But camping logisitcs are another monster

You could conceivably throw a successful festival the same weekend as Lolla, but you probably shouldn't do it 8 hours away with a bunch of the same bands.
This fest is going to be a nightmare im guessing. Im doing some research because this is closer and cheaper than lolla pretty much the same and its all around cheaper.
after doing some research check this out.
Here is the map of "the fest grounds" from their facebook
Look at how bad this is planned out
i couldnt find a good satellite image to put on here so just look it up on google if you want
there are NO trees in the tiny camping area they have and from looking at it from google maps there is nowhere near enough room for 20,000 people camping let alone the 100,000 they think will show up.
if they are having the stages face away form the grandstand then you have walls that stop the cars from getting into the infield and just not enough room to have 40,000 people at each main stage. the asphalt gets hot in that sun too!
i just dont get any of the logistics of that map. it honestly looks like people are going to have to sit in the grandstands and that will just blow big time for the headliners. and if the dj tent is small which it looks like it could be from google map comparing it then when more than 10,000 show up to watch Girl Talk you are going to have a lot of pissed off people.
who knows maybe im way wrong but this thing could be a train wreck. if they are having people sit in grandstands thats gonna be very weird for a fest and would suck big time

Only my home state could come up with such a terrible name. Wakarusa=win. Kanrocksas=fail.
Cons: There truly is NO shade at the speedway. And Kansas in August is hot, humid and the sun lights your azz up. It will truly be as bad or worse than Bonnaroo 2010 heat wise. Plus it is the 3rd windiest state in the country. It blows non-stop there, especially in these areas with no geographical wind blocks. Imagine tents turning into kites.
That being said, it's only about 1.5 hours from my hometown, so is a good excuse to go home to see the 'rents.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
The oval is a 1 1/2 mile track which means the long stretch is probably about 800 yards. I'd expect that anything more than two stages going at the same time would be impossible. And even that might be tough.
i have no idea how this is going to work. I think im going to go just to see what the hell happens. I dont think they will have another one of these Kanrocksas ever again.
Nothing makes sense from any standpoint of this thing. The infield pictures have buildings up all walls all over the place. Sitting in the grandstand will suck big time, its a music fest you dont want to be walking up and down stairs and looking through a fence to watch a show.
camping will be a HUGE mess. there isnt enough room, not even close.
and the dj tent looks like its in a parking lot that has a length of 32 car stalls by about 6 cars wide.

i'm from kansas city and haven't seen anyone else from the area on this board. it's good to know that bonnaroo wont be any worse then an average kansas/missouri summer. i was worried about the heat but it sounds like i'll feel right at home.

While I think that the space is going to be tighter than the promotors are expecting, I don't think it will be as big of a problem as some people think. They are saying 100,000 people over two days, which probably means 50,000 per day, but because they are selling by-the-day passes, they can say 100,000 between both days. I think that number is a lot more manageable for the site they have. Also many Bonnaroo-goers are spoiled when it comes to size of venues, because the farm, Centeroo and What stage are so huge. Urban festivals have a lot tighter spaces to work in, and this is essentially an urban festival with adjacent camping. Even so, the infield of this area where they want to have the venue is almost twice the size of Coachella's venue, and it is bigger than Centeroo, not including What stage, which has 4 stages and planet roo. I think it will not be near as big of a problem as some people think. And as far as shade goes, What stage has no shade whatsoever, and there are 0 trees in Coachella's venue. And by the looks of it, they are going to have a lot more tents in the infield next to the stages. I can't imagine all those tents filled by vendors. Plus, on their site it says that they will have multiple sprayer tents. Looking at the festival map the biggest problem looks like camping, but I imagine that it will have a lower rate of campers like Coachella. Plus, all the camping will be tents only, and there is a lot more room with no cars. Like any first year festival it is going to have its problems, but I think that it should be given a chance. It is trying to be another alternative to Coachella and Bonnaroo later in the season, because there aren't really any. I think it could be successful, or like Rothbury, could bight off more than it can chew.

Sorry, but there isn't a single place in Kansas or Missouri, especially the Kansas City area, that is even closely related in terms of heat and humidity. The South is worse, despite Midwesterners believing they have it just as bad. Sure, heat in August is generally more lethal than in June, but August in the South is far more brutal than where ya'll are located. Sorry to kill the illusion.

well i just got back from bonnaroo and the heat there wasn't too different from what it's been like daily in the KC area. Low 90 temps with humidity pushing it into the 100's, same ol same ol. we'll see how it is at kanrocksas, despite it potentially being a disaster the lineup is pretty solid and it's cheaper then most festivals so i think im going to check it out with some friends and see how it goes. hope to see some of you there!

Actually, my friend, if you read further back in the thread, the statement refers to the idea that Bonnaroo's temps/humidity (early to mid June) will be nearly identical to a July or August day in KS. So the hottest part of the summer in KS is comparable to early summer in TN. Not an August to August comparison.

Exactly! I hope you have fun! Haven't decided if I'm going yet. Still pondering if I want to endure a windier version of Bonnaroo.

if it's half as much fun as bonnaroo was than im sure ill have a blast hope to see you there! i think it will be worth the potential headache of it being their first festival and whatever an august day in kansas can throw at us.

96 degrees on Sat with 70% humidity, which means the heat index will be well over 110. Ouch guys. Bring lots of shade, drink it up (water), and take it easy. Have fun!

Also, for the record, throughout July Lawrence has had 13 days and Wichita has had 22 that have crossed the century mark. Jackson, MS has had 5. Last August Lawrence had 8 (13 total above 95) Wichita 11 (17 above 95) and Jackson 4 (16 above 95). Sorry to kill the illusion.

I was looking more at the website. I really wish I could have gone home this weekend. They have some great activities and the lineup is great.
Every year at the end on June in Manhattan, KS, they have a festival called "The Country Stampede". It totals over 150,000 patrons for the whole weekend. I worked it a few times when I was there and worked the local hospital other times. The medical response team was well orchestrated and consisted of agencies from across the region. I anticipate them having the same provisions at this.
Dang I wish I could just call off this weekend. So jealous.

Eerily similar to a snapshot taken at The Gathering. I hope that you all are having fun, and the pic doesn't reflect the majority of patrons at the fest. Cause I'm pretty sure that baby is currently spun to the hubs.
