but laying down in centeroo is swimming at your own risk. there are a lot of people with fuzzy vision and erratic footsteps.
I understand that there are risks to sitting on the ground. But there is a difference in those who accidentally step on you and the people who pound your limbs into the ground and ignore your cries of pain.
(Honestly I'm just bitter at the guy that had to pummel me on his way to the front, even though it was 30 min till the set started.)
I am with you tnbackroads. I agree with the be considerate part. Step on my blanket thats fine, but don't step on me please. If you do a sorry clears that all up. Screaming WATCH OUT! to ME not so much. This whole thread reminded me of the younger that laid on an air mattress under the tent for Santigold, right up in the middle of everything. We decided to sit and moved back by the portos so to give the dancing masses room.

I think people don't realize that at a certain time of day, a blanket just ain't gonna work unless you're far back in the field. Just because it worked at 11am doesn't mean it will work at 6pm.
I remember the mess at the Flips last year; so much mud and people right on the edge of it with their blanket, upset if it got dirty. Seriously, that crowd was so huge it spread to other tents/buildings, you HAD to wade through the crowd to get from Point A to Point B. Dark, muddy, crowded, don't expect to have a chill place to lie down and look at the stars. It was like a video game trying to get through the crowd and not step on a blanket/foot/passed out wookie.
I bring blankets to Centeroo, but then I also park my blanket far in the field so I can enjoy the whole Roo experience. Blankets and primo locations don't play nice together.
I never understood the masses of people that pass out outside this tent and that tent during latenight. Trying to go from this tent to that tent can without stepping on blankets or tripping over people can be really hard sometimes. Especially when its dark and you're intoxicated. Are these people spending the night in centeroo or just napping for late late night?

^^this. Blankets will really only work if you're at the back of What or Which. Don't expect to use them up front, or at all if you're in one of the tents.
I will always try my best not to step on a person's blanket, but sometimes it really is unavoidable. Please don't get upset about it; I guarantee a little dirt from the sole of my sneaker is no worse than all the dirt, cigarette butts and spilt beer covering the entire bottom side.

Dirt? Cigarette butts? Spilt beer? I wonder if that's why people use blankets. It's all coming together now.
If I am waiting on a show to start under a tent, I will sit on my blanket. However, I don't spread it out. I keep it folded fairly small, enough to hold me and my camelpack (take it off my back to give it a rest). Honestly, if my sitting while waiting on a show bothers you, you should probably go stand elsewhere.

I have a problem with the people who bump you and don't say they are sorry or "excuse me." I at least make eye contact and smile at people I walk past. Also, I try like hell not to step on blankets, but sometimes ya just can't help it~

I hear you some people just sat down in the middle of the crowd lol
But at night I almost stepped on many party-goers just assed out on the ground. If I didn't have my trusty forehead light I would of stomped on people by mistake
I too find it odd when people in the middle of a huge standing crowd are trying to veg out on blankets. Get up or move back! I also personally do not want to be surrounded by people's feet and not see a damn thing.
I agree with JJHomer and Yoderoo about people pushing through AFTER the show starts. I can understand the odd person trying to get back to their friends after going to the bathroom during the show, that happens, sometimes you don't have to leak between sets. The groups of meat-sticks that plow through, or the vollyball team that pushes through only to stop in front of you, piss me off to no end.
I also find that if I do have to go to the bathroom or get a drink or something, I will usually tell people as I smush by them on my way out. Then when I return, they have no problems moving for me because they know I was already there. Sometimes they are even gracious enough to protect my spot for me too.

Agreed with much of whats being said here - except for the general disdain at sitting on a blanket in centeroo at all. I mean - come on guy - people need to sit. It's effing HOT. and most of the time, people in centeroo are there for the day. it's good to rest and be able to fully enjoy all that Roo has to offer without killing yourself. I'm with jho - IF i set my "blanket" (actually an old shower curtain to keep my ass from getting muddy) on the ground, it's never under one of the tents. thats just lazy. secondly, i think people who believe that their blanket WONT be stepped on are dumb. they're gonna get gross, it's BONNAROO. finally, those people who insist on stepping on blankets for the sake of stepping on blankets, stop being a wook and be considerate. step on the blanket then say that you're sorry.
on the timing note - i have literally "thrown bows" at drunk girls who thought they could wedge their way in front of me because im only 5'2'' and appear harmless when im in the front row. when the music starts, you stop. freeze. you have just earned the 2 square foot area you are currently standing in. congrats.

Smartassery aside I am pretty much 100% on the same page as you. Also I am not above throwing a random leg out into the train of people who somehow think it is cool for them to elbow their way in front of me. Even the cute girl they put in the front....

guess I'm alone in this. I sat under whatever tent Brandi Carlile played on a blanket. Not big, just enough to fit me and the person I was with. I was towards the back and edge of the tent but still, there seems to be a good deal here who are saying any tentage at all = no blanket. What's the problem? The chicks behind me didn't mind at all, they were super sweet. The people in front of us were in chairs, I believe. I fail to see how any blanket at all is a bad thing as long as you don't mind people stepping on it, don't take up more space than you need, and aren't way up front. Granted, it wasn't packed like some of the bigger shows, and I def. wouldn't do that at a latenight set, but cmon now. Some people need to sit and soak up some shade. Take it easy on em.

I don't even mess with a blanket preferring beach towel instead. Room for one and more easily stuffed in the backpack. But I agree that the music is get up stand up time.
This thread makes me think something of Linus' mom would be bitchin at him about.
Before the music starts
After the music starts
Very nice Linus reference. Coco for you, sir!
I think the bottom line for this thread is: If you are worried about an item or article of clothing getting mud/dirt on it, you should leave it at home. If you are gonna be an a-hole when something you own does get dirty, then you should stay home!
These people would have never survived '04. The whole farm was a giant mud pitt. The walkway between What and Which stage was filled with people walking around barefoot, looking for their sunken shoes
