Agreed to pretty much everything. PP and J and cliff bars. Also this year we are brining Gatorade powder packs for the camel back because our bottles of Gatorade were taken when we went to go in.
Brought 2 flats of beer and left with 3. It was too hot last year for beer.
I did however bring in a batch of apple pie drink in a wine bladder and that was nice to share with the neighbors. I will for sure do that again.
The ice is a fair price. We usually buy one bag a day and take turns holding it in the heat on the way back to camp.
The vendor food is awesome. My wife and I usually split meals so we can try more food. I can't remember the name of the stand, but they served Thai food in wooden bowls for a $1 deposit on top of food cost, and Thai tea was fantastic. There was also a vendor who had a mint tea that was awesome in the sun. I tend to stay away from the waffle and ice cream guy and most of the fried food when at roo.
Planning on late night sets this year, so I'm stopping by Sam's club to get a convenience store size pack of 5 hr energy.

sandwhich meat for day 1 (wont last beyond that) pb&j (or some nutella!) for the rest, along with granola bars and chips for the other days. and $5 footlong corndogs (delicious!) from vendors for 75% of your meals.
people complain a lot about the odd taste of the water there.... but last year i didnt notice it at all. so i imagine that if your used to well-water, then bringing water isnt that big of a deal. (although you should still bring like a case of bottled water at least).

If you got the water out of the filtered stations, the sulfur had been filtered out. Some of the wash stations in Centeroo still had the sulfur water.
I picked up a 24 pack of 5 hours on Amazon for 1.60 a shot. about half of what you pay at the gas stations. You just never know what someone might trade for a 5 hour right?

i just filled up jug sand my camel pack at various wash stations. nobody in my group noticed anything. the filtered stations were excruciatingly slow, and had long lines, so it wasnt worth it.
(we're from western PA and sulfer-rich water is the norm.)
I'm a roo virgin, but my plan for food is to bring a whole lot of beef jerky, Cliff Bars, and PB&J to keep me from spending too much at vendors. Besides that, I'll probably end up trying the Spicy Pie, Samosas and Dollar Grilled Cheeses that I've been hearing so much about. Oh, and what's this about a Pesto Mozzadilla? I'll take five, please!
As for beer, I won't drink much during the day, but in the evening, I'll be all over the craft/micros. I bet I'll spend twice as much money on good beer as I do on food.
You listen and you listen good, you must eat SIX pesto mozzadillas, at least. You will thank me, dont even worry about it, just bow to the pesto mozzadilla in all of its delicious glory.
I'll repeat the advice of everyone else - bring less food than you think you need! At our first Roo, my sister and I brought a TON of food that we ended up carting home with us! It's so hot that during the day, you don't eat as much as you would think...however, I will say we were a little jealous of our neighbors cooking bacon every morning on the grill! Most of our food besides a little bit of fruit, some granola bars and cliff bars went untouched (we ate a whole jar of PB and half a jar of jelly though - the PB&J is great in a pinch - just make sure to keep it in your cooler!).
The vendor food is actually really good and not as expensive as you would think. I ended up eating something in Centeroo every night once it cooled down and my appetite kicked in.
Suggestions for what to look for:
$1 Garlic Grilled Cheese - Shakedown - livesaver late at night! Chicken Gyros in Centeroo - so good - I go back for one every year for a centeroo dinner The Samosa Man - tons of flavors, some veg, super yummy and filling Pesto Mozzadillas - Oh my yum
There is a vendor in centeroo that has food (can't remember what) but what I got from them was a flavored iced tea - this saved me on one super hot day when they had ginger flavor and my belly was upset...I was overheated and dizzy and the sugar syrup mixed with the ginger tea was AMAZING
Also, a few years ago, I went off by myself a bunch in the mornings when I couldn't sleep but my group was passed out - I had a crepe with bananas in it in centeroo for breakfast and it was amazing!!

Anyone out there ever brought hard boiled eggs camping? I was just thinking how they might be good when it's too hot for cooking fried eggs, etc. I just don't know how well they travel in a cooler.
I don't eat a lot in the heat, just not up for it. We bring PB and J, goldfish crackers, trail mix, and some fruit. Also water and juices. I buy everything else from vendors. Not too expensive plus I figure it's my vacation and I'd rather have Spicy Pie then slave away over a camp stove to make a shitty hot dog.
Ok, where is the pesto mozzadilla vendor? I haven't had one yet, but I'm seeing too many good reviews to not give them a shot.
Yea I don't even know what they are?
I found one on shakedown near the $1 Grilled Cheese people... not sure if i saw any in Centeroo. But, once I found samosas, I pretty much tuned all other food out.
I'm amused to see all of the mentions of the samosas... we eat these more than anything else at Bonnaroo. Lots of variety, cheap, and DELICIOUS. I'd eat these all the time year round if I could.
Now, these pesto mozzadillas... I've never even heard of them! I'm assuming they are some sort of pesto/mozzarella quesadilla? No? What are they and where can I find them at Roo?!

I hit the Samosaman up at least once a day. I love those things. This will be the year that I learn to make them at home. The sauce that comes with them is pretty great too.

At Roo, I live off of Spicy Pie, samosas, and Pesto Mozzadilla. I couldn't find any arepas last year, even at the special vendor they had set up for the Latin Tent. I might have to give those $1 Grilled Cheese Sandwich's a shot this year.

I also brought too much food my first year and have only brought jerky, cold cuts/bread, cereal bars, etc. ever since. As everyone else noted, the food is pretty dang good in Centeroo. This is my one vacation of the year so I budget for Centeroo food, taxi's in case of BFE, and party favors.
If you haven't had the $1 garlic grilled cheese then your missing out! This is my 4th Roo in a row and last year was the first time I heard about Spicy Pie. Unfortuntely it was after the festival so I haven't gotten to try it yet. I never even went over there thinking it was some sort of spicy chicken pot pie. Now that I know its just pizza, I will definitely be trying out the Spicy Pie on Thursday night!

Get them from Bearly Edible. Same place that has the $1 grilled cheese.

Nail on the head, and ask around, someone'll point you in the right direction. Word gets around.
In addition to what other people have suggested, I make a loaf or two of banana or zucchini bread and freeze one. The frozen ones are good to keep other things cold in the cooler. Also frozen fruit.
This year I may bring a small grill only because my husband bought one a month or two ago. I don't envision using it much, maybe plop a skillet on it and cook some eggs in the morning though. I don't really want to keep up with a bunch of meat and keeping it chilled, so any meal that I grill will likely be early in the weekend. If I knew I could get up early enough and get it done I would bring jerk wings from the grill to brunch.
This year the wife & I are going to try buying a couple of big premium frozen pizzas from the grocery store, cooking them Wednesday night, wrapping them in foil, and bringing them in our cooler for breakfast/munchies/food fights/&ct.

im coming with a group of 5. I love to cook. Going to get a large pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts, clean and marinate them wednesday afternoon before heading in. I am going to cook all of them at once thursday afternoon and have them for the whole weekend. 2 different marinades, bread a buns if you want to make a sandwich. Also fruit, chips, cliff bars, eggs, tortillas, and bacon.
Also my friend makes thin crust wild yeast (sourdough) pizza on his webber grill. They are super awesome. Probably going to be selling this late night!
Um, yes....the sauce that goes with the samosas is delicious...
The pesto mozzadillas are a quesadilla with mozz, pesto, tomatoes and spinach - they can be found at the grilled cheese stand in Shakedown & also in Centeroo, I believe...
I haven't bothered trying to cook at Roo since 08. My food list is pretty short: lunchmeat, cheese, bread, pasta salad, chicken salad, chips, snacks (i.e. Cliff or cereal bars). The food in Centeroo is great and worth it when you add in the convenience. Some of my favorites are the cajun options and the Spicy Pie.
Word of advice, especially if you bring food that requires refrigeration - keep your cooler in the shade, the ice will last longer. If you can buy or borrow a 5 day cooler do so. You'll recoup the extra money spent on the 5 day cooler by not buying ice every day.
I typically have a red bull or 2 with an odwalla or other protein drink in the morning, then lots of water. Around 3 or 4 I hunt for a big meal that will last me until 9pm. More water through the day. Then at night I basically snack on various vendor food as the mood strikes me between shows. Sometimes I do a big vendor breakfast, sometimes a big coffee at night, sometimes a few beers...but this is typical.
I avoid lots of solid food because what goes in must come out.
If you bring some tortillas then you can make some pretty good breakfast burritos. Theres no mess since you mix it all in the bag it came in, you don't have to worry about food staying cold, and one bag will easily feed 2 people. I'm making a big hearty breakfast burrito every morning it'll fill me up give me plenty of energy and hold me over till around 7 or 8 when it cools down and I feel like eating dinner.
Their on sale at REI right now and their pretty cheap all things considered. I highly recomend them.
