I hope to buy tickets at the gates if I can't find a decent price elsewhere beforehand. I've heard it's been easy in the past, but i was wondering if anyone had any feedback.
How much do they typically sell for? Do you think there will be a lot of illegitimate tickets around? Would it be possible to verify a ticket that I buy, perhaps by scanning to enter before paying? Do you think the sell-out will affect prices very much?
Sorry for all the questions, and thanks in advance!
I assume you mean scalp a ticket while in the traffic line. I did this to the early Roos with no problem (and they were sold out) but that was before it got so HUGE. Also there are no tickets, just RFID wristband. Not sure how you can check an RFID chip but it cannot be scanned and resold without cutting the wristband off.
With all this new stuff it will be hard to say for sure but my guess would be you can get a wristband fairly easily. It's best to walk the traffic and get one from someone in a car with an extra. They are usually not trying to make money just get rid of extras before they get to Roo and waste it. I'd guess $100-$150 would buy one from someone trying to rid of one.
Scalpers will likely be more and more likely to counterfeit but I'e never even heard of someone getting a fake ticket (though I'm sure it happens.)
I would check stubhub last I saw it was about $200 a ticket. I don't like the company all that much, but they are a sponser this year so it atleast would make me feel safer, now that tickets are sold out. Good luck getting to Roo!
Just keep in mind (from the General Admission Sold Out Bonnaroo e-mail)... "Do not show up to the festival without a wristband. There will be no sales at the gates, and you will be turned away."

I thought I read somewhere that if someone didn't receive their wristbands (lost in the mail or something) that they could de-activate them making them not valid for entry and they would issue new ones. (Where did I read this?)
I would be extremely weary of buying wristbands from anywhere at this point, other than maybe from someone you know.
^^some one could report one lost and then sell it. Same as counterfeiting. Stubhub is good because they guarantee the ticket is real.
If you're coming from nearby, scalping is a cheap alternative. If you're coming from a long ways away, buy from a reputable dealer. Compared to the cost of gas/gear/etc it's worth it.
In past years it was easy, last year it was impossible so you will be taking a chance. How far away are you coming from?
lol...."impossible"? i bought one and several of my friends did as well. they were literally everywhere. and they went way down as the weekend went on.
my friend got his press pass last minute last year and sold his GA to a kid in line for $75! it is possible, but you may be doing a lot more work than you want to guarantee your entry.

I spent 4 hours in line looking, and found none. Two people coming to brunch finally gave up at the Walmart parking lot after several hours and paid full at the gate. If not impossible it sure was not near as easy.

I would be scared sh*tless doing this. Especially with my 14hr drive. BUT I do think there will be people with extras, flipping out cause they don't know if they'll be able to sell of, so I think if they are there they will mostly be a good price. My newest member going just got one off my brother in law for 225$ cause he was so hard up for money..there's got to be more people like that out there.

Last year I had no problem getting one. There's a radio station in Manchester, I think it's like 10 minutes from that gas station at the Bonnaroo entrance, and they were selling tickets last year. We went there at about 1 AM and they were about to close but we got two for about $280 each I think.

I bought mine at the gate for that. I meant people selling on the way in.
Looks like Stubhub prices are already up to 400+ (I.e. Too rich for my blood).
I'll be biking 65 miles from Nashville to get to Bonnarroo, so it won't be too bad if it doesn't work out. Looks like I may just try my luck at the gates.
Where are some good places to look for tickets at the gates?
This will be my first Roo, but the last two years Coachella used RFID wristbands there was a huge problem with people buying wristbands which had been de-activated.. I would be extremely weary of buying anything from scalpers at the event especially because of this.. There's nothing stopping someone who purchased three wristbands to say they never received them, having them de-activated, and then selling the bunk ones to people for hundreds of dollars.. Stubhub at least offers a guarantee so if you get a fake one they will get you a legit one (that's why it costs a little extra).
