A lot of my friends are saying that they're going to miss the entire Black Keys set so they can get close for Buffalo Springfield. I'm telling them it won't be necessary. Am i right? Sorry if this bad thread, but i didn't see anything about this subject.

Well, there isn't really a pit at Which Stage - at least, not the way there is at What Stage where the pit is handled differently from everything else. But just as far as getting up close, I would usually say to get there shortly before the end of the previous show. This particular situation is a little different since there's such a long gap before the previous show on Which, but if I had to hazard a guess I would say your friends might be right. If they really want to be up close for Buffalo Springfield (and don't mind missing the Black Keys), then getting there as Mumford and Sons are finishing up (or not long after) would probably be the way to go.

The black keys are really popular though. They're the most liked band on the bonnaroo app. I figured most people would be staying for all of the Black Keys.

Well, there isn't really a pit at Which Stage - at least, not the way there is at What Stage where the pit is handled differently from everything else. But just as far as getting up close, I would usually say to get there shortly before the end of the previous show. This particular situation is a little different since there's such a long gap before the previous show on Which, but if I had to hazard a guess I would say your friends might be right. If they really want to be up close for Buffalo Springfield (and don't mind missing the Black Keys), then getting there as Mumford and Sons are finishing up (or not long after) would probably be the way to go.
Be careful though- I went to Jazz Fest to see Mumford a few weeks ago and I got right at the gate behind the VIP area (which is infront of GA) as soon as they opened the gates. By the time Mumford got done (Avett brothers were right after them) I had thousands and thousands of people to fight against because M&S are SO popular, and the Avett fans were waiting behind the M&S group. So I suggest getting there before M&S. I'm a huge fan of OCMS so I'm basically just going to park it all morning noon and night there.
Question: How is the Which stage set up? It's not set up like the What stage? Would someome be so kind to clue a Roo virgin in on how they're set up? Is it like JazzFest with the VIP pit taking up half the space infront of GA?

The Which is a free for all, no pit whatsoever just people with empty bottles or iron bladders. That being said getting reasonably close is not impossible most of the time if you have patience.

Thank you! And the What stage is like a VIP pit, then a standing area? I'm so sorry, I know these questions are inane and I'll find out when I get there either way, I'm just very excited for my first Roo and very curious.
As you can see from the picture, the front of the Which stage is accessible to everyone. There is a VIP grandstand located further back and off to one side.

It's a pit but not a VIP Pit. It's open to anyone and a line forms on the left and right sides of it. People are allowed to go into the pit until it is filled. It's pretty rare that it is that difficult to get a good spot behind the pit. I think for Springsteen (The only What show act I was close for in '09) I got there like 30 minutes before the act started and was like 2nd row behind the rail. I probably could've gotten in the pit but I was happy where I was.

Seriously guys, thank you so much! It's going to be so much fun! (I'm going for Mumford, but excited for the whole experience. 4th time seeing Mumford in 5 weeks!)
what i've had success in is getting to the which stage at the end of the act before the act you want to see. just like the tents. i did this before the mars volta 2 years ago and was able to get a great spot right in front of the sound board. they were the last band on which during the day and it wasn't that difficult to get a good spot.
for BS you should be able to get a good spot by 8 still. guessing around 8:30 after !!! and devotchka finish is when it will get even more packed. but i agree with others, maybe get a spot during mumford and try moving up as much as possible after they finish.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
That picture is crazy cool. Is that how most shows are on the which stage? Can you even SEE the stage if you aren't up front?
Glad you like the pic (although its not mine, I found it online). Not all shows at the Which stage are that packed. Depends on the popularity of the band thats playing. I'd guess that picture is from one of the more poular bands. Ive never had a problem finding a spot to see although you could be pretty far back.

Are you talking photo pit or just close to the stage? Cause there is DEFINITELY a photo pit for both Which and What stages. You have to go to the press area and be escorted in...at least 10 minutes before the act you want to shoot. When there are MAJOR conflicts (i.e. Beastie Boys on What and David Byrne on Which at the same time) Big Hassle DOES try to help you out...they let us run from one to the other and help David Byrne for like 10 minutes to give the photogs the opportunity to shoot both. But the tents are totally at Security descretion. They can let you in any time during the performance if they feel it is safe. So best bet....make friends with Tent security and you'll pretty much be able to shoot what you want.
