i think if the scheduling was set up last year, Rush would have to be Late night Which, or possibly the Sunday headliner, which may anger the jam band enthusiast. I guess they could do the "longer than headline preheadliner set" like MMJ, but i think it suits them best at late night Which or Sunday headliner. IMO

Rush played the same venue in Atlanta as Arcade Fire, but Rush filled it to capacity. I could see Rush having a Late Night What spot, but no way they pre-headline on Which. LN Which would theoretically possible, given their limited draw at a Bonnaroo-like event, but for that very reason I don't see them being booked in the first place. A band like Rush plays to a niche audience who is very enthusiastic about supporting them. Bonnaroo's demographics would not support a Rush appearance. It'd be like Widespread Panic headlining Coachella. Widespread Panic is a band with an intense fanbase but limited appeal to the mainstream public. They headline Bonnaroo because the demographics are favorable due to the Jam base.

I don't think Rush is any farther out of the genre than Tom Petty, or Metallica, they sold out a basketball arena here pretty quickly.
I think a LN Which or What would be a great spot for Rush. I just don't see them in the unopposed slots except maybe Sunday, but even that's a stretch.
Rush would have to be a headliner, especially for the money. They're an arena act and a huge draw in every market. I doubt that, at this point in their career, they'd take a huge paycut to play Bonnaroo, and AC is going to pay a headliner salary to preheadline.
They fall into that "too big to do anything but headline but not exactly big enough with our base" to play, in my opinion.

I think that almost everyone knows plenty of Tom Petty songs. They get regular rotation on old stations, commercials, movies, etc. Metallica is a huge band that have several hits that everyone would know, and a lot of people would be interested in seeing a band that everyone knows.
I know a lot of people who wouldn't know who Rush was and I can't think of anyone I could say that about with Petty or Metallica. And that includes people who are into music enough to attend festivals. I think they're headliner-caliber in that they're certainly "big" enough, but their appeal is so narrow it wouldn't make a lot of sense for them to be booked.

Sometimes the age differences on here really come into play I guess, I seriously doubt you could find anyone over thirty who was not aware who rush was and at least knew Tom Sawyer as a song. As far as airplay goes at least in Nashville they get just as much or more than Petty or Metallica, certainly regulars on the rotation. Not that that means a lot they play a lot of Journey and Foreigner as well.
I don't hate the band, or the music, but I do REALLY hate their fans.
Let's start a petition to keep's Rush's annoying ass fans off the farm forever!
Did they collectively kick your puppy or something? I have never heard of their fan base being anything but 96% male and kind of nerdy.
Well, since you asked, a group of Rush fans made a conspiracy to stomp on my pet frog when I was 7.
Actually, I just despise the kind of people that claim that something is "the greatest" or "most talented", and are willing to fight about it. It's ok to be a fan boy, just be a fan boy that is somewhat in touch with reality. I am a Pearl Jam fan boy, in my opinion, that band is incapable of failing (aside from that cover of All Along the Watchtower, that was totally mehtastic), but I will NEVER argue that when the sun dies, and destroys our galaxy, Pearl Jam will have been the greatest gathering of people in the history of humankind.

Yeah, and that age difference definitely plays against Rush too, their audience skews older as well. I'm sure most people would recognize Tom Sawyer, but have no idea who sings it. I Love You, Man may have helped introduce them to some younger people, but I still just can't see them headlining, and it's hard for me to see them not headlining.

This is how I feel about Arcade fire fans
(better turn my awesome points back off for this post)

Actually that is interesting however I have heard that in AC's words its not a hard rule but generally Roo prefers bands that perform at Roo not to be performing nearby before or after Roo.
