I was wondering if you all could tell me about a time when you'd made some elaborate (or not) plans for Bonnaroo, and things didn't go as expected nor as planned, but came out for the better? Maybe you HAD to go see a certain band, but another caught your eye and you found your long lost sister at this other band or something like that. Or all your friends bailed at the last minute and you went alone and had a blast. Any sort of stories like that would cheer me up immensely.
Going solo myself after friends backed out. On top of that bonnaroo screwed up shipping my tickets and I will have to try to sell a vip ticket and parking pass after picking it up at will call.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
I was planning on leaving Beastie Boys early to watch David Byrne and I just couldn't leave the show. And 5 minutes after I was planning on leaving they brought out my favorite rapper Nas. Didn't go as planned but ended up much better.
Travel plans got a bit screwed up last minute last year. A great inforooster helped me and my buddy out and we had a great time campin' with her! Decidin' to stay at Lotus last year after my planned fifteen minutes had passed. Face meltin' good time!

in 2007 our whole group (and pretty much everyone else) was at the flaming lips late night - excellent show, but my hubs wanted to go catch gov't mule and even tho they weren't my fave at the moment, i went because he was like "you've GOT to see them!" ... we went, the tent had a good crowd but was spacious...and then bob weir comes out to jam and we were blown away like "how could this get better?" lo and behold mr. john paul jones himself comes out and hops on the keyboards. i couldn't believe the collaboration that was going on right before us!! it was amazing. not what i'd planned, but better

I have huge plans every year, and every year they get at least a little changed. I had a strict schedule planned so that my corn would be just at the height of its crunchy, buttery goodness during the Flaming Lips last year. Ended up not being able to see a thing and wandering around the crowd of Bassnectar until LCD soundsystem and was 2 rows back from the bar. Best decision I've ever made.

Bonnaroo 2003, I had planned on checking out Antibalas at noon on Friday. After the surprise Antibalas Thursday night show, I was even more amped to see them (they were that good). I wandered by their stage right at noon, and it seemed like the late night set the night before had sapped their energy...couldn't compare. I decided that I'd just wander, and I wandered by This Tent - right as My Morning Jacket was hitting the opening chords of "One Big Holliday." The tent was half-empty, the sound was loud and huge, so I figured I had found my spot. Can easily say it changed my musical life, for sure.
Similar to StephieJane, I was amped for the Flaming Lips 2007 set (the 2003 set was pretty much the most fun I had ever had at a show). The crowd turned me off, though - way too packed, way too many idiots who just came to ogle at the crazy effects, brah. Seemed like the party was over, so to speak. I wandered off, somewhat dejected, and happened upon Galactic just taking the stage. I stayed there for 4+ hours and had a blast.
THIS! Both years, same situation, same amazing results. Walking into that half-full Morning Jacket tent on a whim was like stepping into a church. My jaw was in the sand and I haven't been the same since.
