Hey, may as well throw something somewhat likely in here.
I'm not a big metal fan, at all actually, but I love Mastodon. New album on the way, growing popularity, and I think a return to Roo would be a great thing. Late night, too.

I love Mastodon's albums but they are pretty terrible live from videos I've seen and the one show I went to. I guess just the vocals sound pretty off key and they play everything considerably faster and the groove isn't as solid.
I mean I freakin' love Leviathan and Crack the Skye, don't get me wrong.
I love Mastodon. Love them. One of my favorite metal bands. First time I saw them back in...I want to say 2004, they were mind-blowing. ...But then I saw them at Bonnaroo 2008...and it was probably the worst show that I saw that year =(

you're right. i've seen them 3 times and they were only really good the first time. brent is awesome, but he doesn't sound good anymore. i think it might have something to do with getting his brains beat in by the guy from soad. i think after that is when his voice went bad. but even saying that, i would probably go see them again. i would bet on them being at roo next year.
I don't get how the 08 show was anywhere near the worst of the year. Oh well, if that show made me a fan, and it's a "bad" show, I don't know what a "good" show would do.
Certain bands receive passes for being weak live, vocally... Flaming Lips, I'm looking dead at you. They may not have the best vocals, live, but I think they play the instruments incredibly well, and really I have no problem with the vocals, and I'm picky as shit when it comes to singers.
Well, yeah. I've been yelling about this for a while now.
"The Hunter" is supposed to be out by the end of the year, and they're definitely going to be touring heavy off of it. Since they're doing Europe this Summer, I think it's highly likely they're in the States next year. Since Bonnaroo is really the only major U.S. festival that consistently gives metal bands a chance, I think they'll be there.
The new album is being described by the band as much more "raw" than CTS, and they're comparing it to Leviathan. I'm amped.
And I don't know what you guys are talking about, but I saw them live twice in the past year and both times they sounded dynamite - vocals and all. They've never been the most vocally strong band, and tend to use a lot of effects in studio to get the atmospheric sound they're going for, but they sounded okay to me.
honestly, i don't even like the way he's sung on the last 2 records. i still love those records, but i feel like his voice is ruined. i am excited about it sounding more like leviathan though, because that's my favorite.

Queens of the Stone Age LN Which would destroy minds, but I'd almost prefer a pre-HL What spot, just because I like that stage more, and would be certain to get into the pit, no matter what.
Seriously - they went a little more with the hip-hop this year (8 acts, I believe, which is about 2 more than any other year), and last year was the year of EDM with the Lunar Stage...they've emphasized jazz & bluegrass before, why not go a little bit heavier this year? Get QOTSA, Mastodon, Baroness, High on Fire, Converge, Dethklok late night, Pelican...why not?

I saw Mastodon in 09... they were pretty weak, but I chalked that up to the challenge of playing Crack the Sky in full. They had some measure of energy and crowd interaction in their older songs, so I hope the new material will have similar benefits. Speaking of which, I'm excited for the new album, even though Leviathan is my least favorite album of theirs (I know, I know).
I really don't get the Deathklok love. Anyone point me in the direction of... anything good?
And Steve, I read about that on The Comatorium, I'm certainly interested in that... I think there is a good bit of talent in everyone involved in that project.

And seriously anyone that respects themselves and likes Mastodon needs to get some Neurosis. The latest one is as good a place to start as any and Mastodon cites them as one of their primary influences and idols (along with The Melvins)
As I said before I'm not huge into metal, nor a gigantic Mastodon fanboy, but is it bad that I think Crack The Skye is head and shoulders above the rest? And also that I think it's the best metal album of the last ten years? I really am baiting some criticism here, so that I may look into prior efforts harder (even though I do love both Blood Mountain and Leviathan to a lesser degree).
