Hold on, when I think “bands that would benefit from quite possibly the most immersive visual experience for live music on earth”, I think of the Eagles.
It's actually going to be the full 4D experience - in addition to fully immersing you in the visual experience of a dark desert highway, they will also blow cool wind in your hair laced with the smell of colitas.

Sturgill also announced a N2 in Philly. I got tickets during N1 via artist pre sale (not platinum). N2 now has the same seats at a lower price point. Any chance Ticketmaster would consider cancelling my first order if I asked? assuming no, but that is so bogus...
1 show = high demand + higher $ at on sale with instant sell out -> announce 2nd night with cheaper tickets due to softer demand? how is that appropriate

actually you are right, imagine them playing "Hotel California" and they have a picture of a hotel in California on the screen. would be a peak live music experience.

the colitas needs to be rising up though, if it's rising down... i'm immediately not fully immersed
There are few acts that can do the necessary number of nights at the necessary ticket price for the Sphere. Most of them are boring and cater to old rich people. Younger ones might not want to do a Vegas residency.

This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Will the Sphere ever be a stop on a tour? Or will it always only host residencies?
It's possible, but T-Mobile Arena would be better suited for a touring show. Production at Sphere is designed to be unique to the venue, that wouldn't really be worthwhile for one or two nights of a tour.
Not that they appeal to teens now or anything, but Usher and Katy Perry are two younger pop performers who, had they waited a bit longer to start their residencies, probably would’ve been great for the Sphere. (Same with Lady Gaga but we gotta wait until she wants to stop doing jazz standards there first.)

I don't get it. If the music doesn't lend itself to an intensive visual experience and you've never really embraced stage projections and the like throughout your career, the artist and venue probably aren't a great fit.
Nobody wants to see John Mellencamp surrounded by five-story high footage of farms and dirt roads for two hours, even if you like his music.
Radiohead and Tool? Definitely? Coldplay? They've always been very strong with visuals. Some of the bigger pop/R&B acts like Beyonce and PINK! would be a good fit there, too.
Basically, though, The Sphere won't be leveraged to its best use until time travel exists and Peter Gabriel-fronted Genesis, Yes, ELP, King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, classic era Parliament-Funkadelic (with Eddie Hazel, Bernie Worrell, and Bootsy Collins), the Allman Brothers, and the actual Grateful Dead can be fetched out of the 70's and brought to the modern day to play The Sphere.
Is the Sphere going to book any shows for people under 65?
Phish. They really didn't catch on in a major way until people now 65 were well into their 30's (Formed in '83, but became a big deal in the early 90's).
So, there's a Twitter/X page devoted to the idea that you should always check the secondary market sites within 48 hours of showtime, because there are ridiculously great deals to be had. Given the number of TickPick screenshots, I'm betting that the feed is probably run by TickPick.
