I like your beer taste, LD! Yuengling is one of my favorites and I do like Saranac, but there are a few iffy ones in those samplers so I don't get them too often.
Twas a bad weekend for me. Some went gone, mostly the Yuengling. Many more came in. My brother had a party here today, and I also had a few friends come up from the 203.
I ended up at two package stores today: Case of Bud bottles, for my brother's 23rd birthday 12 pack, Troegs "Anthology" sampler, for myself Sixer of Clipper City's Heavy Seas Gold Ale (myself again - five remain) Sixer of Rogue's Dead Guy Ale. Kept one, gave the rest to my best friend. Bomber of Ipswich Imperial Pale Ale (for family friends of best friend) Sixer of High and Mighty XPA (family friends again)
Chances are good the Saranac and some of the other stuff will end up at this 8-20 party.
As for the buying for family friends of the best friend - a few times now they've taken my friend and I out and around. A few times now we've racked up huge bills in New Haven (and once in Worcester), and took care of it all. So me and my friend end up buying beers for them in return.
We are in Warren. So come through PVD then go east for 15 minutes or so. Pretty much anything that comes from 'da Hill is Fab-u-ly! This is going to be so tasty and sooo much fun!

You have noooooo idea how happy this makes me! It's been ages since I've had any authentic sugary Italian nommage. My ex-BF (an Italian from NYC who was equally passionate about food AND music) introduced me to sfogliatelle; my hips still haven't recovered from that breakup! So any tasty treats you bring will be therapy.

You have noooooo idea how happy this makes me! It's been ages since I've had any authentic sugary Italian nommage. My ex-BF (an Italian from NYC who was equally passionate about food AND music) introduced me to sfogliatelle; my hips still haven't recovered from that breakup! So any tasty treats you bring will be therapy.
Oh man, I LOVE sfogliatelle...if they have em that day I'll bring some! I am a sucker for Italian wedding cookies...and cannoli...and biscotti...and fig and lemon bars...and cinnamon sticks...and anisettes...and and and...!!
I was born / raised in RI and have plans to be there that afternoon for a family get together. I'll definitely be there, but later in the day... Vicki too.
And someone said something about stuffies? mmmmm...

seriously, when i was a kid, we never had the white stuff. the restaurants we went to didnt even serve it - red chowder FTW! i wonder if i could sweet-talk my mom into making some for this... hrm.
she has a bang up clamcake recipe if anyone has a deep frier
that red/clear stuff is soup, now chowder. You can like it, thats fine, but don't sully the good name of chowder by confusing it with that... that... that soup concoction

South County swamp yankee here. (you can take the girl outta south county.. but she'll never unlearn the 1001 uses for duct tape.) The only chowda I knew existed until my twenties was the clear made from the quahogs we just raked, fresh garden 'taters and onions, and tons of black pepper. Been in RI all my life and never actually met anyone that eats the red stuff. This will be a first. ;D n

Wait - idio's in for this as well? You mean the guy who I've crossed paths with at like a dozen shows over the past three years and somehow never met? When I moved from New Jersey to Kingston in my teens and got my first bowl of RI Clam Chowder, I was like...what the heck is THIS crap?!? Then they gave me clams with the black things on them and I thought I was gonna die of horror... Proud to say that these days, I can scarf littlenecks, stuffies, and all 3 kinds of chowder with equal joyful aplomb!!
I moved to Pittsburgh in my late teens and the Pittsburgh Zoo ran a joke promotion on billboards inviting people to SEE THE GIANT QUAHOG (no photos, of course)!! Naturally, no one in Pittsburgh knows what a quahog is. The exhibit featured a long, dramatically lit hallway that led you through twists and turns to...a tank of giant clams. I convinced some of my fellow yinzers that quahogs were some kind of killer indigenous east coast sea monster that they just HAD to see...
So FM, I have to know: George's or Champlin's? This argument has divided my family since they moved to South County...
Champlin's.. but probably does not count because the market, not the restaurant. The man from which i was spawned had a side job when I was young. Every weekend, spring to fall he would dive and inspect different segments of the lines going out to Block Island. (Had to make sure the tether lines did not break and let the island float away. Haha) So every weekend was lobsta', crab, scallops, quahogs, etc etc etc for breakfast/lunch/dinner. When a change was desperately needed, he would trade the above at Champlain's for fish. I think I was 30 before consuming another lobster or crab after those years.
That said my grandmother was from West Kingston and she was a George's lady.

My parents would agree with you! I do love the market... but I loooove George's stuffies...and the deck bar ain't bad either. But I'm the only Georges girl in a family full of Champlins diehards. They love to bust my butt about it!
Very cool about the line inspecting... I wanted a job opening bait vats in Galilee when I was a kid because it paid a whole $8/hour, but my parents were convinced I'd hack off a limb with the machetes they hack the bait apart with! (They were TOTALLY right!)
Confession: I barely even know what you all are talking about. I had to look up "stuffie" the first time it was mentioned. I couldn't decide if you guys were talking about food or something corn related!
And just to add to the debate: The only clam chowder in central CT is always NE Clam Chowder.. white and creamy... I have never seen it any other way

Bonzai - you will know the best stuffies by 8/21. We have had to explain it to a lot of folks, even in RI! I forget its a very local term.
Quacker's mom who is 80 just had her first stuffie last week while she was staying with us. (W. CT/Upstate NY girl) She tried, she loved, she went home with a dozen in the cooler. They freeze well. I can hear her now knowingly educating all of her friends at the morning coffee club about 'Stuffies". "WHAT??? You've never had one?"
