In response to the OP, this year was my first time seeing Widespread. I wasn't into jam rock much at all before Bonnaroo, and there are bands I've liked and bands I haven't. I loved Phish in 09 and I loved MMJ this year. Dave did nothing for me. Widespread was good, I guess, but to be honest I found them boring. It wasn't bad at all - for the most part, I liked it. But they couldn't sustain my interest for 2+ hours. It's just not an especially exciting show for me, despite the quality of the musicianship.
The whole AF vs Widespread debate is ridiculous. Neither band is going anywhere soon. Widespread is a cornerstone of jamrock, Arcade Fire is *the* indie band right now. Either one you either like or you don't. The thing about Arcade Fire, though - they're one of few acts right now that I would wholeheartedly recommend almost anyone see live (the others being MMJ, and until last year, LCD and the White Stripes). They're a bit of a zeitgeist band - which isn't to say they won't be around in two years. What I mean by that is that they've shown an ability to connect with people - particularly those of a certain age/generation - on a personal level, and their concerts are a communal, cathartic experience for those who buy into it, which is no small group. It helps that the music is very, very good, even though they're not musical boundary pushers (such as someone like Radiohead or Kanye West).
But why the quack are we comparing Widespread to AF when we should be comparing them to other jam bands? As far as headliners go, I still feel Widespread is a bit of a fallback choice. One thing I've heard jam band fans say to describe Phish is that they (before much exposure) to Phish assumed they were just a Dead-retread, but found that the group really has its own unique brand of jam rock that is distinctly Phish. I can't say that about Widespread. I can about MMJ, which is one of the things that excited me about their show. That said, they're certainly not as big as Arcade Fire and probably not quite as popular as Widespread, at least in the South. They're still on the rise, though. And they're the act I'd rather see close the festival in a couple years. Which I don't think is farfetched at all. They're popular enough, at least at Bonnaroo, to do it. They're no Phish or Dave but I have a feeling they could match the Widespread crowd.
Another of CPK's paranoid ramblings and idiotic statements. Also I have been in a car with one of the inforoo moderators all day, pretty sure no troll accounts were being created jackass.
Also troll accounts are not my style I just come out and say anything I care to openly.
1. Not paranoid. What do I have to be paranoid about and for that matter how could anyone be paranoid about anything on a message board 2. 6 words does not qualify as rambling. 3. If anyones been a jackass lately it has been you. Now we know you can't take a simple joke and that you can dish it but not take it. I guess we will have to tip toe around your feelings so we dont have to witness anymore of your childish tantrums.
How is accusing me of having multiple accounts for a second (bannable offense) a joke. You have to love the "Oh it was a joke" defense when people get called out on something. Also the only thing I have done to make you cry in your wheaties is talk bad about Arcade Fire, I mean look at people who can't take it for sure.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Okay, going back to the OP... I had never seen WSP before, always missed their set at Bonnaroo and from what friends told me I wasn't missing much.
This year I saw part from the Hill, then went back to camp and my husband & I set up our chairs in our neighbor's campsite (they left already) & could see the stage from there. Cracked open some cold beers, relaxed, enjoyed the show. And it was a good show. The lightshow was amazing. Am I glad I finally caught them? Yeah. Would I pay to see them near my home? Probably not. I would for Phish and Further, and I do love me some Umphrey's McGee, but WSP didn't amaze me enough to see them in a local venue.
AF vs WSP is just a stupid comparison. Might as well compare Trent Reznor to Billy Joel. Both shows were great, IMO. Neither band has changed my life based upon their show at Bonnaroo this year, though both shows did make me respect the bands more.

Looked like a joke to me. It's not like he would be so scared of such a minimal amount of conflict on a relatively anonymous message board that he would scramble to find a resolution.

Hmm so twice in a day he accuses me of making troll accounts in different threads then plays the "joke" card when called out on it. Nobody accused him of being scared just backpedaling. Of course when I start accusing people of stuff on here it is never a joke huh? Everything I say is dead serious and deserves to be reported to a moderator or to get jumped on. There really is a reason only 20 or so regular posters will use this section of the board in the off season.

You have to be joking. This has to be Jess's troll account.
I dont know why anyone would report you and if it is bc something I said then thats my bad. I was joking though. It was all in fun cause we kept going back and forth about the AF vs WSP thing. Did I do it to rile you up a little, possibly, but it is not like I actually thought those were your troll accounts. I didnt think it was such a big deal.

I'm about to get another argument started.
But we lock threads too much. If it's spam it makes sense, but if it's just because too many arguments are happening isn't that the whole purpose of being on here.
I hope you don't lock over me. We were just having a debate. If I crossed the line in anyway then I apologize.
No, you didn't kill it all by yourself. You had help.
You and Dr Teeth gave it hypertension. baconus66 gave it diabetes. whoreshack made it have hyperthyroidism. emoney caused it to get high cholesterol. Cap'n Jack made it start having panic attacks. and NoD gave it ED.
Don't you guys think it's time to put it out of it's misery?
I was serious about the actual debate but I was joking about Jess and the troll accounts. My bad. I will take responsibility for keeping it going. I am kind of new here and have seen people say stuff worst than what was being said. I didn't think it was a big deal and that was my fault

Don't see why we'd lock the thread, not like there's much else to discuss right now...
that said, the whole 'debate' if there ever was one is over. Everyone's stated their opinions and clearly no one will ever agree on which band is bigger when both bands have a more or less completely different audience that is typically unaware that the other band exists. This is one of many dissimilarities among two rock bands that, though they play the same kind of music, could not be any more fundamentally different if they tried.
