^ if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost for you to replace your passport? I was kinda shocked how much it cost me to get mine, and was wondering if prices vary by state.

$140 + $25 "execution fee", so $165. And $60 on top of that if you want to expedite.
^ I remember when you didn't have to have a passport to get into canada. I don't want to have to get one to go right over the border. It's just nuts to me.
** I think it's FANtastic how you get to go to Ireland though! ;D

My parents went to SUNY Plattsburgh, so I used to visit there all the time and hop back and forth over the border. My Dad and his friends would buy beer in Canada since it had more alcohol (and was just better overall) and drive it back into the States for parties he and his frat threw.
And yeah, I'm pumped about Ireland. I haven't been since I was too young to partake in the dark & sudsy libations, so I'm looking forward to it.
a tourist visa shouldn't be as hard to get as a work visa, but the requirements vary for every country. no idea how to go about getting one for russia. how long do you plan to be over there, taco?
Only like a week or so. First you have to be invited to apply for a visa, then apply which includes mailing your actual passport to the consulate in DC. Usually one is 'invited' by the hotel they book. We are staying with my sister so it may be trickier. I found a website that promises to get you an invite for like $25, though HA, or I can just call the peeps in DC for advice.
That's interesting. Somewhat similar to how I got mine for Korea. I had to mail various documents to my employer in Korea which they submitted to their own goverment office, which gave me a Visa code to put on my application.
I had to mail that application, along with even more documents (many of which were duplicates of the same documents I mailed to Korea) to the consulate in Atlanta, including my passport. I was kinda sketched about putting my passport in the mail, but it turned out ok.
I think it's terrific that Obama has come out in support of same sex marriage, but I'm a little dumbfounded as to why he chose to make the announcement the day after the vote on Amendment One (the anti-gay amendment) here in North Carolina. If he had done so even just a few days before the vote, it likely would have swayed public opinion enough that the amendment could have failed

I mean, I'm no expert, but I would think that a lot of fence-sitters just jumped to Obama's side after today. It's sad, and the stupid game they all play, but I would guess he did waited so his announcement made more of a splash.
Unfortunate if that's the case, since a lot of people were just denied a right that's rightfully theirs.

Oh, and it should be easy for you to get a visa into Russia. A letter of invitation should just be your sister sending you a letter saying, "hey, I'm hear legally and I want you to visit me!"
Yeah, she's in visiting still so I'll have to pick her brain before she leaves.
She is in Moscow. I would like to do St Petersburg as well, but we won't be visiting that long listening to Al plan it. Who asks a girl with a sister in Russia where to vacation?!
Yeah, I'm going to Ireland in July, so I need to take care of this now.
I haven't been to Ireland. I think that would be fun, though may not remember much. Al probably won't remember much of Russia, considering his and the country's love of vodka.

I've always wanted to visit Russia (AHHH MOTHERLAND!), but Ireland gets dibs on the international trips. Seeing how I love Jameson and Guiness (which is way, way, wayyyy better in Ireland vs. the US), I may never come back to the States.

I was sitting passenger in a corporate car today when we got rear-ended by an elderly man. We were stopped and he hit us going about 40. Everyone was ok, but it was a pretty crazy experience.
On the list. I have family still living there, and the past two times my parents have gone they just rented a card and went from place to place and that's what we're planning on doing this trip. My family likes to go on hikes and do stuff outdoors, and when we made our lists of stuff to do the cliffs were #1 on my list.
Completely unrelated, over the past two weeks I've had and then not had a ride to Roo 3 times. I went from my regular crew, to everyone dropping out, to me convincing my friend from South Africa to come and drive with me, to him having to cancel, to a new group of friends deciding to go, to all of them dropping out. But now I have a ride again, and they all have their tickets so there's no dropping out. I'm basically chaperoning my younger cousin and his friends, but whatever. LET'S RAGE(peacefully)!

If my Irish skin wasn't so pale, you could tell how green with envy I am. I'd be hard-pressed to buy a R/T ticket, too. There are so many fabulous things about that place that leaving it seems like a mortal (not a venial!) sin! Wonder what the penance is for that?
"Bless me Father for I have sinned: I bought a ticket back to the States." "Say three Hail Marys then have six pints of Guinness and a Jameson neat." Sláinte!
