I'm watching a program called "Shocking Fishing Secret", selling the "Mighty Bite" fishing lure. I have no idea how I ended up on this channel or why I am staying.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Colton Dunn is amazing. It was fun seeing him and Whittels as the stoner animal control guys on Parks when we rewatched the series recently.
i've been listening to some older comedy bang bang podcast episodes recently and it's making my heart hurt for the loss of harris wittels. every single thing he said was hilarious.
Harris was so unbelievably funny it hurts. His death truly was tragic but man, what a hilarious legacy to leave behind. Have you listened to any Analyze Phish? If you like Scott and Harris's banter it's truly a gift. You definitely don't need to like Phish to enjoy it.
Also the Project Funway episode of CBB is one of the best ever. It's amazing how much Paul Rust like chemicals.
And the St. Vincent edition of Foam Corner is brutal and hilarious.

At a kid's birthday party, one of the kids referred to mom as an idiot. My grandmother would have smacked me so hard I wouldn't have tasted food for a month had I ever thought of doing that.

How did this mother respond?
Basically asked him not to act like that and dropped it.

OK enough Harris raving for now.
that was actually the first foam corner i heard, and i re-listened about a week ago and went on a foam corner youtube binge. i haven't listened to analyze phish yet, but it's on my list. speaking of paul rust, i regularly irritate my fiance with "NEW NO NO!"

Of all the numerous celebrity deaths over the past couple years, Wittels hits me the hardest. I love comedy as much as I love music, and there is no doubting that he was a phenomenal talent. I know TV shows like Parks have a whole writing team, but it kind of floored me to see how many great episodes he had the writing credit on when I was rewatching the series. I've listened to the Analyze Phish podcast in it's entirety twice, and I really connected with Wittels through that. It's like I really knew who he was, that weird connection you can make to another individual who has a similar obsessiveness about a band that you do. Then when he announced that he'd gone to rehab and sobered up, it was a whole other connection, since I got clean a while ago (12 years next month yay).
I was super excited to see his career develop. Young guy, incredibly funny, and now that he was getting clean I felt safe thinking he'd be around for a long long time. I was interested in hearing more of his perspective on sobriety and how it affected his comedy and his career. And then he uses dope one time and is dead. It's such fucking bullshit.
I will say it again because it can't be said enough. I can't drink or use drugs, but I think drugs and alcohol can be great when used appropriately. They can help you connect strongly with art and with other people. They can enhance your understanding of your existence and your purpose. But when used inappropriately, they can do exactly the opposite, cutting you off from art and other things you love, damaging or destroying your relationships with other people, and completely obfuscating your perception of yourself and the world around you.
But recreational use of opiates is always a really fucking bad idea.
We're at Mayo's and Mayo was talking about asking Siggy if he wants to go see At The Drive-In with me tonight while they go to see Beauty and the Beast. Apparently Siggy said he would rather go to the movie with them.

You said it better than I ever could. Harris was so talented and funny and open about his addiction and his work to overcome it that his passing was that much more tragic.
For anyone interested in that part of Harris's story, his final appearance on You Made It Weird is a must listen. It's awful and sad and Pete Holmes may not be the best person to conduct that kind of interview but I think it's an important listen.
And congrats on your upcoming anniversary dude. I don't think I've done anything consistently for 12 years besides putting my foot in my mouth.

I've been looking at too many mafia votes lately... I had to double take...
Haha. Word. Today's looked like this (actually it WAS this). Got the combo which meant sausage, pork, chicken, mussles, shrimp, calamari and whatever else they put in it.

I'm not a big fan of seafood, but all the rest sounds and looks great!
It's quite a good dish. They have vegetarian and non-seafood varieties at the place I was at. We just went for the combo because my dad digs mussles (I'm okay with them too). It's a Valencia (SE Spain) staple. And Spanish is a root cuisine for Louisiana Creole (French, Spanish and Afro-Caribbean). Oddly enough, there are almost no Spanish restaurants in New Orleans. I guess it's an older culture (early-mid 1700s and again later in the 18th Century) that left its early mark on early architecture and seasonings for food but probably just got assimilated over time.
Basically rice baked in the oven with the other ingredients and flavored with saffron, lemon, parsley and garlic.

I'm not completely anti-seafood... I do like shrimp if it's small and breaded, or if it's spicy. Tuna (which I wouldn't consider seafood really?!) and breaded tilapia (again, I guess I'm a child when it comes to fish). I guess something about fish and shrimp being breaded makes it more tolerable. The vegetarian variety sounds great! I get a lot of things veggie style because I love almost all veggies. My favorite is hibachi. Now I'm rambling... But I think I have a lunch idea for tomorrow...

I'm ready to eat about every single bit of seafood I can get my hands on in New Orleans in two weeks. Some chargrilled oysters from a guy outside a bar at 2am sound like just the ticket

The latest season of Project Runway is on Hulu. I won't venture into the show's thread here because spoilers. I swear to god if Ashley gets eliminated before Fashion Week, I AM DONE. I just finished the paintball challenge episode, all those bitches can kick rocks.
The boys collection was a dream though. I wanted all of those pieces.

So yum.
Getting so excited to go. My wife has never done a proper New Orleans visit (most of her time in the area was spent on various mission trips) so we're very excited. To say I've been planning for a while would be an understatement. So many options for great food (and drinks), though!

You are coming in for JazzFest right? How long are you going to be here again? We need to do a NOLA meet up.

Nope, not jazz fest, I'll be there next Thursday morning. My friend is having a bachelor party on the Saturday night. So my wife and I are coming in on Thursday and staying through Monday (leaving before Radiohead, poor planning). She's got one night on her own and the rest of the time we'll be having fun together.
