A teammate of mine from college just rowed across the Atlantic solo. He shaved like two weeks off the world record. Previously he had run across the United States doing 26 miles a day
Anything within an hour of Baton Rouge is New Orleans.
I mean that is what people from other states think.
Them: "Where are you from?" Person from LA: "Louisiana" Them: "Where in Louisiana?" (like they know anything other than Shreveport, BR or NOLA) Person from LA: "Luling" Them: "What's that by?" Person from LA: "It's like the Boutte (BOO-Tee), Destrehan area..it's St. Charles Parish." Them: "Ummm where? What's a parish?" Person from LA: "New Orlenas..I'm from New Orleans. I live on Bourbon Street and am a beignet."

In a story sure to excite old motherfuckers like Garageland and Me and certainly hard rockers like Sgt. Blotter, here's a story from Live for Live Music about 2 elderly German men who escaped a nursing home and were found raging at 3:00am at a metal festival. It happened at Wacken Open Air in Schleswig-Holstein. It's billed as the largest heavy metal festival in Europe (sold out, 75,000). According to the police, the two men were "disoriented and dazed" but were nonetheless reluctant to leave and head back to the nursing home. I couldn't find any story giving their names or ages, but more fucking power to them. \m/

I've been on this board for four years but judging by the Infinity Draft my music tastes are like the one thing in pop culture I've said the least about...

Mastodon 4/11/2009 House of Blues New Orleans, LA
Set 1:
Oblivion Divinations Quintessence The Czar Ghost of Karelia Crack the Skye The Last Baron
Set 2:
Bladecatcher Colony of Birchmen The Wolf Is Loose Crystal Skull Capillarian Crest Seabeast Iron Tusk March of the Fire Ants
Encore: Hearts Alive
Memory just popped in my head. We were at this show standing behind the soundboard. The guy behind me was a little drunk. After every song he would scream out for "Iron Tusk". "Iron Tuuuuuuusssk!!! Iron Tuuuuuuuuuusssk!!" It wasn't annoying, he wasn't screaming right in my ear or anything, it was actually kind of funny. The set progressed and he got a little drunker and rowdier as the set went on, but it was all good.
When they finally played "Iron Tusk" late in the set, the guys howling delight was infectious. Everyone around us went insane. Such a happy memory.
Side note, this was the first show I wore earplugs at. My then girlfriend/now wife and a friend did not, after the show they sat on the curb and felt like they were dying. I felt great. If you don't wear earplugs, start wearing them now!
Mars has been great all month. Been able to see Saturn and of course Jupiter and Venus this week. Tomorrow is peak of Perseid Meteor Shower. I’ve seen some pretty cool ones over the years. Probably the best was my little brother was about to head to FSU in 93, and we watched it over Lake Ponchartrain. Anyway, with the New Moon just having happened tonight and a thin crescent setting early tomorrow night, it should be one of the best shooting star shows in a long ass time. They’re talking 120/hour, but usually I end up seeing about 10 or so.
I just realized I now have a large arm tattoo, help manage and run a lesbian-owned beer and burger restaurant, exclusively either walk, ride my bike or take transit, and am about to move in with recognizably Google-able people DJ Abbie at KEXP (she was the host of that Chelsea Wolfe In Studio they posted last month) and prominent drag artist Miss Texas 1988.
Any experts on Baton Rouge in here? I'd love an overview of fun stuff to do around town if someone has 20 minutes to give me a little intro.
I don't know if you're still looking for ideas, but Clairity lives in Baton Rouge. She doesn't log in here too much these days, but I could connect you on Facebook or something.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I got a ringer through some friends who went to Auburn but thank you!!
I switched my hours at work this week and it feels really awesome knowing that when I get back from lunch I only have 2.5 hours left.
One of my supervisors follows this schedule.
6:00 A.M. In 1:00 P.M. Lunch 2:00 P.M. Back from Lunch 2:30 P.M. Out
Half an hour after lunch would be almost disorienting to me.
I always used to take my lunch about six hours into the day. It's so nice to know that you're almost done. Made lunch that much more enjoyable, plus you miss the lunch crowds.
