So it's swarming season. The hives behind the shop have already had two splits. We caught this swarm earlier today. Got lucky the new queen decided to land so low.
We usually just spray them down with sweet water and knock the swarm off from where they are bearding. This time I tiptoed over and cut the branch off and my uncle(in the suit) just shoved the whole branch down into the box. ahaha. Rednecks.
The goal is to make sure you capture the queen. In the last pic you can tell we got her cause the bees are all heading towards the entrance to the box.
They really are. So much crap to learn about them too. I rendered a bunch of beeswax least Fall and still haven't done anything with it. The process was such an asskicker. Was going to make some candles or some hippie soap.
Being (heh) an apiarist has always seemed intriguing because I want to help save the bees, but I hate being stung and can quickly go vengeful redneck on insects that hurt me.
Probably just going to try to build a habitat for turtles or amphibians or something else threatened that can't hurt me instead.
I think the firemen got it out pretty quickly. All the trucks started coming by so we went out and saw flames starting to peak out above the houses between us (so they were really fucking high) and then they were there putting it out. They basically closed the street down so we weren’t allowed to see what it looks like. There were literally at least 25 emergency cars here though.

I set my backyard on fire once and didn't realize it until I saw firefighters walking around back there. Insane amount of vehicles for a fire that they put out with my garden hose.

I set my house on fire when I was like 10 or 11. For some reason, I got the bright idea that I could set paper on fire and then throw it out the secondish (one floor house but on a hill) window while still aflame to hide the evidence from my grandparents. Like the second piece, it burned the whole way down and caught the grass on fire next to the wood wall of the unfinished basement. Knowing the consequences of telling an adult, I did not tell them. I ran outside to the back of the house. Thankfully, there was a bucket that happened to be full of rainwater right near it that I dumped on it. I put the bucket back and calmly went back in the house hoping nobody would notice the good sized patch of black grass.

My parents had a house fire around two years ago. The fire was mainly contained to the attic but they had to completely tear down the house. My understanding is that if a fire hose has to touch your house it's almost certainly a total loss. The majority of the damage will be water damage, not fire.
Anyway I say that because you should tell your neighbor to grab ANYTHING they can from the house if they want to keep it. On the night of the fire, the firefighters were able to get some clothes, laptops, medicine, jewelry, and some sentimental stuff out of there. They told my parents they'd be let into the house in a few days to grab other small stuff.
Well, that never happened. The insurance company was SO. SLOW. to respond and there was some sort of ongoing disagreement that it was weeks before they were allowed back on the premises. By that point everything was covered in mold. Remediation was able to clean some stuff but the vast majority was lost including things we could've picked up and cleaned ourselves had we had access soon enough (Christmas ornaments, heirloom quilts, etc.). If they can't get back on to the property, tell them to ask the firefighters to pop in there again and snag it.
Also tell them to make a list of everything they have ever owned and do it RIGHT NOW. It's so hard to catalog all of your own possessions, especially if you don't use it regularly. Insurance replaced everything at cost but you have to claim it within six months (I think). It's been years and we still have moments where we say, "Hey whatever happened to the such and such ... oh I guess the fire got it."
Looking to get a TV. I tried reading into guides and recommendations on Reddit's relevant subreddits, but got super overwhelmed.
My girlfriend was gifted her parents big screen TV when they retired and moved away and didn't want to take it with them. We were talking about the same thing of being overwhelmed when we have to shop for a new one when this one goes. Seems like there are so many options to consider I don't even know how you'd pick
I was browsing TVs recently, and I guess nearly none of them have real speakers anymore, and buying a soundbar for them is kinda required now? It all confused me.
I can only offer a brand recommendation, but LGs are absolutely great. Whether TVs or computer monitors or whatever, I find their design and quality to be a notch above Samsung/Sony/etc. Their UltraHDTVs with the (advertised) true black point [Edit: the OLEDs - thanks postjack] are ridiculously stunning, just expensive as fuck since they're top-of-the-line high-end stuff. Most of their other screens are at more consumer-friendly price points though.
Edit: For those overwhelmed - just try to remember that in the end, it's just a TV. As long as you're relatively happy with whatever you pick, after a day you won't be thinking about the ten other similar-but-slightly-different TVs. Though I will say that the included "smart" features that come with most TVs nowadays are pretty shitty - I'd ignore those features completely and stick to your FireSticks/AppleTV/whatever else you use to stream content.

Apparently soundbars are not the move if you're really into sound quality. I keep reading to get a full audio setup.

Good points all around. I'm not THAT into this stuff, so I'll temper myself. I'll look into LGs!

i'm not up on what the current hot shit TV is. i only do research when i'm actually in the market, which was a couple years ago. we ended up with a big ass sony X900E LED which we love.
general tips:
-consider the room you are putting the TV in. if there is lots of natural light from windows, certain screens may perform better (that's why we went with an LED over the excellent LG OLED)
-personally i wouldn't put too much value on the smart features of a TV. you're better off just using a box that whose software is updated regularly, like the nvidia shield or the apple tv. TV manufacturers don't seem to care about upgrading your software after you've purchased. focus on screen size and picture quality when considering value.
-i've found AVS forum to be the best source for TV info. browse around there and look at the big threads about various TV models, that will give you a good idea of what models are hot right now and the pros/cons of each.
-IMO if two TVs are the same price, but one has slightly better picture, and the other is bigger, go for the bigger TV.
-in the end, new TVs today are like new cars, most of them are pretty good and will get you from point A to point B. you have to work at it to get a stinker.

Not that i'm an expert but my understanding is it's not necessarily honey bees that are in the most danger. There are a ton of subspecies and a good bit of them are losing habitats or suffering from environmental degradation.
