ALDI is the f*cking jam. It's cheap, and you also get a sad feeling of accomplishment when you learn all the weird rules.
YES! I love Aldi. They have logs goat cheese for $1.99 and awesome prices on produce. And when they bring in the products imported from Germany, we stock up on mustard.

Wow, my life is sad.
Really? I have tried to like ALDI. Maybe I need to figure what is actually good. One time I got a jar of peaches and they burned my throat.

Aldi is amazing for stuff that you don't need (i.e. fruit snacks, chips, ice cream). You're just asking too much for them to have legit produce. So my advice would be to eat worse.

It wasn't fresh, it was a jar! But I have friends that claim shopping at ALDI cuts down on their grocery bill a ton.

I've gotten bad stuff at Aldi. But I've also gotten bad stuff at Kroger, Wal-Mart and every other grocery store. It's gonna happen. I wouldn't let that turn you off though. Just avoid the canned peaches next time

Well I've never gotten bad stuff at WEGMANS! Wegmans FTW!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

All these Aldi people don't even know.
Indeed. We don't have Wegmans in Tennessee. Our options typically are limited to: Kroger, Aldi, Sav-a-Lot, Publix, and Wal-Mart. Or if you're fancy, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods.

There are no Wegmans around me, but you get what you pay for. If you go to Wegmans, Whole Foods or the like.. you'll get better product. If you bargain shop, you're going to lose once in awhile. I fall in the middle- I go to S&S because it's directly on my way home aka I'm the lazy shopper(but if I wanted to go 2-10 blocks out of my way there's an Aldi (never been), Shop Rite, Big Y, BJs, C-Town, Whole Foods...)

1) ALDI is the f*cking jam. It's cheap, and you also get a sad feeling of accomplishment when you learn all the weird rules.
Rules??
One way that ALDI keeps stuff dirt cheap is by reducing overhead as much as possible. This brings rise to certain rules which the ignorance of can cause you some difficulty. 1) You have to have a quarter to get a shopping cart. You put it in a lock on the handle to remove it from the corral. When you bring it back, you get your quarter back. It saves them having to have an employee gather all of them from the parking lot. 2) They don't bag your groceries. You have to bring your own or, like I did yesterday, take empty boxes from the shelves as I went through the store. 3) They don't take credit cards. Debit cards, yes.

Wegmans is really cheap actually. It's not really comparable in that regard.

I got a can of green beans once with half a grasshopper in it. I think I bought it at Kroger. It was terrifying.

Trader Joe's is surprisingly affordable.
Yeah, they can be. I don't go very often because I HATE the traffic in Green Hills, and parking at TJ is a b*tch.
I love Trader Joe for the cheap booze, but in general I don't like how most of the stuff is pre-prepared or pre-marinated or whatever. I like to cook my own food. It's cheaper and more fun (although TJ is pretty reasonable).
Wegmans is great because they have their own brand of everything including their own organic brand. They sell a ton local produce as well as imported. They have the best selection of organic/natural foods I have seen and it's affordable. Best of all it's all one stop shopping. I like going to Trader Joes and Whole Foods but I would not be able to do a full grocery shopping trip there.
I used to go to Trader Joe's on a weekly basis, but now I moved and it isn't quite as convenient to go, so I don't go too often any more. They have the most ridiculous variety of frozen foods available, plus almost everything you really need (bread, meats, cereal, diary, etc.) at a good-to-great price in my experience -- not to mention the $3 wine and decent selection of beer.
