I can't spend more than 50 bucks on something that literally touches and scrapes the ground with every step I take.
Terry Pratchett would like to have a word with you.
The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.
(Snow) boots are actually the only shoes that I have that cost around $100. Any other shoes would move out of fashion before they wore out if they that nice. This is less about a sturdy pair of boots, for example, and more about the idea of having 50 pairs of $200 sneakers like my best friend has.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

i spend $150 or so on nike's every year or two and that's what i wear everyday so it's worth it to me. i'm getting new ones this weekend and have had my current pair for over 2 years now, worth the $150

I feel suddenly inadequate wearing a pair of Keds I got for $11 at Ross.
I have a lot of shoes (more flats than anything else because that's what I wear for work), and all of them have been purchased at Goodwill or on clearance. Haven't paid full price for a pair of shoes in many, many years...no shame.
As for spending a lot on shoes, it really is about paying for stuff that'll last. Sure, I could spend $50 on a pair of sneakers, but they probably won't be super comfortable nor last too long. The UB's are pretty universally praised as the comfiest show out there, and they'll definitely last a long while.

I've had a pair of UBs for 2+ years and they're still in great shape, even after training for/running a marathon in them. I have bum leg so it's hard to find shoes I can run in in reasonable comfort.

Great to hear. The Coachella boardies swore by them too. I use a decent pair of Sketchers for working out, but it'd be nice to have shoes to wear at a festival or traveling in which my feet aren't throbbing at the end of the day.

I don't think I've worn sneakers casually since middle school. I have a pair of dedicated running shoes and lifting shoes. Otherwise it's chacos or dress shoes.
Also I'm sitting in a hotel bar in Milwaukee and Kareem Abdul jabbar just walked by.
Dave Maynar I listened to the first 3 songs on In On the Kill Taker and it just wasn't doing it for me. Going to throw on 13 songs and see if I feel any different.
I think it's the vocals, the hardcore shouts aren't my bag.

I know, I'm a disappointment
Congrats, Jaz. You may not be the worst poster on inforoo anymore.

Ha, I did enjoy 13 Songs better. But about 3 songs in again, and I started thinking about Neurosis for some reason.
So now I'm listening to Through Silver in Blood.
I love that they open that album with the epic 12 minute title track. They don't bury that shit deep in the album, you're pummeled from the start.

Well, he's probably never listened to a Macklemore album...

Wait, what?! "It wasn't doing it for you." WTF? Like seriously...I thought you were cool. I don't know who you are anymore.
Oh and side note, I have tons of shoes. I fucking love shoes, but I only wear tennis shoes/running shoes for you know, running...or exercising, but I wear chucks...lots and lots of chucks.
I missed good conversations while slammed at work today.
I don't know what album we're talking about and I'm not going to find out and listen to it, because I'll almost certainly like it less than Rothric. But I guess we'll never find out.

Fugazi - In On the Kill Taker
I heard it's one of the first emo albums.
That's it. I need to withdraw my honorable mention for All Them Witches
