I'm catsitting this week for a friend who lives across the bridge in Philly. We're about to get hit with a noreaster that's already started and will continue until 2 or 3am Thursday morning. Could get 9-12 inches. I gave the cats extra food and water - if I come back Thursday evening is that too long for them? Idk if I want to just camp in Philly and take the next two days off work or if I'm going to have trouble getting into Philly and finding parking Thursday evening.
They'll be fine. I've left cats alone for 5 days before. They DGAF as long as they have food, water, and somewhere to poop.
A nor’easter is a hurricane that happens during the winter, for all intents and purposes
They're actually worse in some ways!
Hurricanes are tropical cyclones, which almost never feature any significant changes in temperature. Nor'easters, on the other hand, are extratropical storms, and almost always are accompanied by a precipitous drop in temperature in addition to tropical storm or hurricane force winds

theyll be fine. Might have some rogue poops to clean up if they’re picky about the litter box though.

Okay, I've sufficiently been calmed. Thank you everyone.

I just saw two cats skulking through the snow in my backyard - and I do not live in a densely populated place at all - so I'm pretty sure that cats will be better off in a nor'easter than most humans

I enjoy displays of Southern hospitality/friendliness/etc in general. I do not enjoy out when people choose to display it by stopping in the middle of the parking lot aisle to talk to someone for an extended period at a peak shopping time.
Made lemonade out this mofo. Instead of worrying about being stuck at home wanting to get to cats or in Philly needing to get to work, I decided that I work too much and it was a good time to take a 5-day weekend. I tend to hoard my vacation time when I don't need to use it, so I have 13 days I have to use by the end of June. My plan was to just have 4-day weeks for April, May, and June, but I think spending a couple of days with just myself, some books, and a couple cats sounded pretty rad. I might go in Friday if the roads aren't bad, but I won't be pained if that's not the case.

Well as I sit and drink coffee and ponder this, in reality it all goes back to the home. The modern American education system is designed to produce young adults with diplomas, what a student gets out of their education beyond that is entirely up to them. When the home is firm, there is at least the opportunity for the student to explore and develop what matters to them. When its weak, they are pushed toward alternatives for better or worse - be it working, or avoiding the home. The home is built around how our parents raised or didn't raise us, as our only understanding of those sorts of things is via exposure. The education system, when strong, strengthens minds while reinforcing positive stereotypes. When it is weak, it becomes about maintenance work and managing expectations (over populated schools, under-funding, cut programs etc). While private education systems in our country produce stronger minds, they produce more isolated students socially as well, with only the exposure to their immediate classmates the end result is a general lack of exposure and a preconceived notion of a social hierarchy that leads to a further reduction of exposure in both directions.
My reasoning in how all this produces a punk that goes and blows up human beings in a beautiful city like Austin is this: What we instill in our minds from the very beginning of our education, defines our perspectives for better or worse. That includes the entirety of the experience of an education. I'm not talking about even the gun issue currently facing us, as I grew up through columbine but am aware that its substantially worse in terms of shootings than it was ten years ago. Instead, I'm talking about the tired underpaid staff and underfunded education systems that are usually more the source of corruption and financial haywire than anything else. Our education system, comparatively, is weak and exposed. When the education system fails, it produces failed results.
I'm rambling and trying to make sense of something that is senseless, so I apologize if I've offended
A friendly reminder to all of you potheads, particularly those of you in the great state of Indiana. While adding heavy duty bug spray to your herb may indeed get you to a stupefied level of drooling idiocy, it’s pribably not a great idea to be smoking concentrated levels of insecticide. On the street, it’s KD - not that KD. He’s in Oakland.
