Leaving Seattle after a week long vacation. Summited Rainier and kayaked the San Juan's. if you have never been to Seattle I highly recommend it, really is a great place. It has moved to my #1 spot of places I'm looking to move.

A friend of mine just moved there a month or so ago
update on my adventures in online dating, for anyone who's been dying to know: I don't know what is happening, but so far, I seem to have mostly attracted only quasi-illiterate men who feel the need to advertise that they are employed, have transportation, and/or have their own place.
is it me? is there not anyone else on these sites who considers those things to be just a basic requirement for being at a stable enough place in life to seek out a romantic partner?
so far, it's looking a lot like this (seriously, there are some craaazy people online): itsnotamatch.com/
on the other hand, there's a guy I almost dated- it was just never the right time. we connected and talked for awhile, but then I met someone else. then I got married, then he got engaged, then I got divorced, then he broke off his engagement, then he was in law school. now he's back here and we are still Facebook friends but haven't actually talked in a few years. but I'm single, he's single, and he's really smart which is probably the most attractive quality to me.
he accidentally sent out a mass text message a couple of weeks ago and I realized I had never deleted his number, and obviously he never deleted mine. maybe it's a sign?
ok I will stop rambling now. sadly, I'm not even drunk, just procrastinating and avoiding some schoolwork.

o'neil I bit the bullet and made a profile this evening. I already understand exactly what you're talking about. I've received four messages in the first two and a half hours and I have to say what I'm seeing is not encouraging at all.
Message 1 is from someone looking for a "chick" who is drama free and looking for a good time. He doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're".
Message 2 is from a guy who is "a good man wanting to have a little fun with an attractive lady". All the message said was "Well hello cutie".
Suitor number 3 is "Looking for a good woman who wiLL not Lie and not cheat on me, hoping to find the love of my life". He is sporting a Sugar Ray haircut and posing with his sleeve rolled up to show off a bad tattoo he's apparently proud of.
Number 4 is the best yet. How can a lady resist such an intelligent and romantic message as this? "Hello. I'm in tell city and here working for a few months... I just started using this site and seen your profile.. I really think your really pretty!!! I'm not trying g to be rude or perverted but I would love to just go down on a hot chick like you!! don't want nothing in return just pleasure you.. hmu if interested and I'll send ya a pic. Jul"

ok I think you have me beat with #4. that's insane. funny, but also insane. and as for #3 I have seen that theme a lot too! I mean, I'm sorry that your previous relationships sucked but come on, do you really need to include that kind of stuff in an opening dialogue?

#3 is super common. Just take it as a red flag.
yeah it definitely scares me off. and the ones who say they don't want drama probably create the most.

That is a huge red flag. So far I've mostly seen red flags.
I'm ready to admit this publicly to my Inforoo friends: I found my boyfriend on craigslist. We started out as friends and it slowly evolved in to something more.
I tried all of the dating sites including a 6-month paid membership to Match.com (which is NOT worth it, by the way) and had the best luck on CL, strangely.
With all of the online dating sites, I only responded to the messages from guys who used correct grammar and spelling. So really I only responded to three dudes But really, using that method helped me a lot because it meant 1. The guy had enough intelligence to know that first impressions (even via a message) are important; and 2. It meant he took the time to re-read what he wrote so he was thinking about it, and it wasn't a standard copy-and-paste message that he sends to all the ladies.
Don't feel obligated to respond to everyone that messages you! I had a hard time with that at first.
I am seriously in need of an outlet for all this Alaska frustration (for those that have seen me in the GRRR thread as of late). Does anyone know any decent blog sites that are user friendly? We are definitely moving up there, but the orders are set a year out, so there is going to be plenty of time to think/write about my impending trip. Maybe I'll even continue it into a "life in Alaska" type deal. At least up until my first winter there when the moose population swells in the city and one comes around looking for food at my house. Apparently if they can't find any they get grumpy, and my luck I will be checking the mail when he comes around and I'll get trampled. Until that point I'm sure there will be plenty of stories and pictures worth sharing!

I'm glad you found success! I have not tried craigslist, mostly because I'm scared I will accidentally message gabfrab (kidding. mostly.) but maybe I will... at this point I think I am willing to explore almost any avenue. not that I'm desperate, just frustrated that it is so difficult to meet people.

I've had both a blogspot (Google) and Wordpress blog. I currently use Wordpress just because I like the layout better, but both are good and very user-friendly. there are also apps for both that allow you to post quick updates from your phone.

We used wordpress for posting Infomoog interviews last year (link). We went in knowing nothing about blogging or website building and found it pretty easy to use.
I've started up a Wordpress, between that and Blogspot it definitely looks the most user friendly. Thanks everybody for your input, and I'll let you all know when I get 'er up and running!
