First listen. I've listened to a few Kate Bush albums, but this is the first for this one believe it or not. Its reputation precedes it, so I bought a copy months ago pretty much expecting to love it. Edit: Indeed loved it, *****. Fucking fantastic album. Really, one of the best albums I've heard in a while.
First listen. Absolutely can not find a decent vinyl cover image of this, so this'll do. Side project of Richard H. Kirk from Cabaret Voltaire, supposed to be more unrestrained than his then current work with the Cabs which was leaning towards club friendly 80s house. Edit: Great surprise of industrial funk... Not as out there as expected, but perfectly in line with Cab's early-mid 80s output. Great stuff, ***3/4.
Let's see if I like this more than when I last listened to it a decade ago or so. It just wasn't the level of most of what preceded it, so I filed it away as not worth my time. Edit: Well, this is better than I remembered. Extremely well produced, tight instrumental performances, usually great lyrics and arrangements... but it's just so sterile. The actual work on this album is great, though it just doesn't gel completely. Of course the star here is Van's vocals, and if you consider him one of the all time greats as I do, there's plenty to enjoy with this. It could grow on me in time, but I'm sitting at ***1/4.
