I just gave it my first listen, and as a huge Flaming Lips and Sgt. Peppers fan I gotta say...
I haven't listened, but I'm not a big Flaming Lips guy. pitchfork wasn't crazy about it.
It's garbage and becoming really frustrating. When they're not collaborating (Heady Fwends), covering (DSotM) or both (this) they're fantastic. The Terror was solid (brilliant live) and Embryonic is possibly my favourite FLips album.
Wayne is a head case who becomes infatuated with a cute little pop number (Miley,Ke$ha, probably someone before that, watch out Taylor) and puts them on a mediocre track to keep them engaged. All so he can spend his senior years ogling twenty-somethings in some acid induced haze.
I know it's selfish but I just want original FLips material without collaboration. I listened to this album yesterday and thouhht it was predictably bad.
First time listening to Simian Mobile Disco. Listened to their songs that weren't on this album from their Spotify Top Ten and liked 'em, so I figured why the heck not.

From someone who has been listening to SMD for years and years now: Check out Attack Decay Sustain Release and their Live album from last year. Personally I think the real test is listening to and truly enjoying their Live in Japan from 2008. I know there are a few other members here that'll probably have distinct opinions about this as well. That album is fucking madness tho; it's so satisfying. Pre-Whorl is a way different duo. It somehow makes Whorl so goddamn good and all of their previous stuff contextually so much better.
