Ooof, I'm not sure how to answer that. Through Silver in Blood was the first I album I heard from them, and it hooked me. Both Times of Grace and Given to the Rising are both great as well.
Edit: And Enemy of the Sun too. You really can't go wrong with any of those imo.
I just wouldn't go with Pain of Mind, it's their first album and sounds nothing like the rest of their catalog imo.
You got my vote with Through Silver in Blood. It made my list.
I would go with Through Silver In Blood as well. Also, I would recommend that if you listen to Times Of Grace find a mash-up on youtube with the Tribes of Neurot record Grace as both those records are meant to play simultaneously.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

this is amazing
That is the correct response. After listening to it again today, I realized I ranked it too low on my list. Should be a good 20 spots higher.
I think I mentioned this in the Random Thoughts thread, but I love that they open the album with the 12 minute title track. Let's you know, if you can't handle this, just gtfo now.
They birthed the genre of post metal, definitely legends. They don't play that often, but if given the chance, you should see them. Saw them once at Fun Fun Fun, forget which year that was.

I honestly had no idea what to expect but I'm very hooked. Gonna listen again in the morning.
Holy shit, I haven't listened to this album in a year or two. I love them so much, they really were the band that put me down my current musical path.
It's terrifying how much space in my brain is occupied with nonsense, stream of consciousness lyrics.
Exoskeletal, junction at the railroad delaaaaaaaaaaayed!
Omar and Cedric, I love you. Super excited to hear that TMV will likely be revived in the coming year or two.
somebody posted this a week or two ago, possibly in this thread and I saw it and had to go back to listen. same as you, I hadn't listened in forever. Man is that album incredible though

Yep, and Omar gave an interview last year, where he said he had a revelation. He doesn't want to make music by himself anymore, he wants to work with others again. So that's why he's released a dozen or so albums of his solo stuff this past year. He's just getting it all out there, then going to focus on collaborating with others again. Right now he's in Crystal Fairies with Melvins and Le Butcherettes, but he said he'd like to get Volta going again when everyone's schedules line up. Think they want to get Jon Theodore back as the drummer (the one on the 1st 3 albums).
Saddest part of them getting back together, is that Ikey passed away a year or two ago I loved watching him play, his keyboard faces were the equivalent of John Mayer's guitar faces. So fun to watch. Dude could jam.

i saw them at First Avenue here in Minneapolis probably around 09' and man that was one of the most impressive displays of musicianship i've ever seen
