I may even back out considering I have absolutely no idea how to play this game
I had NOOO idea how to play my first game (two games ago). I asked questions when need be. Roll with it. It comes together. Well.. sort of! I'm still at a loss of how to find mafia/ how to hide being a mafia, but someday I will get the hang of that!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Actually, do pull a Holls. That means MikeD is Mafia and we can kill him off quickly.
And I've never seen any of the Godfather movies either.
OMG that was my first game as a player, long time stalker. I was so sure going into it pure logic is what you need. NOT!! Players are lying their butts off to stay alive. I was so afraid of voting off the inspector or losing for the townies. Actually lost sleep!! In the end it came down to - who can I stand losing to.. Yay townies won!
Had not laughed that hard in a long time when Holls admitted not reading her role pm 'til half way through the game. That taught me .. It's never what it seems, and it's just a game.
Dude, I will risk imprisonment in a federal penitentiary by illegally downloading the series, burning it onto dvds and hand-delivering them to you in random-town Connecticut. It's not that long of a drive.
You need to watch this show, it is seriously the best drama series on television, ever. And my new persona makes no sense unless you've seen the show.

Quacker just mentioned this last night. Do thinks we will be watching it soon.

It's 95 bucks on Amazon.
But yet I just spent 800 on snow tires and the wheels for them. Ugh.
Can someone pay me for that extra VIP ticket I got for next year's Roo?
After Ntell's post put together this pm. Called it the mafia cliff notes. anyone care to add/correct so we can get # 11?
There are 11 players plus the ref. The ref determines each players role at the beginning of the game - using some type of random routine, and PM's each person their role. The ref keeps the game going and enforces the rules if needed. The ref is not a player- just a ref- and there via PM to answer questions if players dont want to post the questions in the thread to the whole group.
Of the 11 players - 3 are mafia - and out to kill all of the townies. These three people know who each other are and will be working together to get rid of the townies by lying their donkeys off and influencing the votes to their favor to stay alive. Basically it comes down to - if the remaining mafia players out number the remaining townies - mafia wins.
7 players are regular townies. They have no knowledge of who is who other than their own role that they get from the ref. For the townies to win - they must kill off every one of the three mafia members.
The last player is the inspector. The inspector is also a townie - but the inspector has knowledge to start, and the chance to gain knowledge if they stay alive. WHen the game begins - the inspector receives the name of one of the three mafia players.
If all goes well with the townies (they snuff out mafia) then the game lasts five 'days'. Not clock time.
Each day, all of the alive players vote one person off collectively. Sometimes it takes several rounds to get to the day kill if there are many run offs.
Once the day is done and someone is voted off by the group, then two things happen - the mafia get to Whack a person. They send that players name to the ref. And the inspector gets to ask the ref about a player - are they mafia or not?
As long as the mafia do not whack the inspector, then the inspector gets the answer to their guess. If the inspector is really a good guesser and player, by the start of day 2 they could possibly have the names of 2 of the three mafia.
The mafia want to figure out the inspector asap and get rid of them to increase their chances. The inspector wants to live as long as possible to be able to help the townies. (Though i've seen too many die without leaving any clues and there by being no help in the long run : ( )
Each day continues until the mafia outnumber or the townies get rid of all of the mafia.
Figuring out who is who... all about the vote stacking, drama, trying to catch lies, and sometimes just gut feel. Not easy but a lot of fun.
It's important that you read the rules - specifically - once dead you can still post but nothing that has any bearing on the game, never discuss your role outside of the thread, and the unwritten rule - do not edit or delete posts after posting. Follow up is okay but not editing or deleting... and the timelines. make sure you vote on time. (36 hours or til discussion ends.)
Best advice i can offer is to go back and reread a game or two if you have not already.
It's a twisted but fun game. You can always ask questions in the thread about whatever or PM the ref re: rules/game play. The ref cant advise on game play - but can respond to any questions about game rules if needed.
Excellent. It is so character-driven, but the main characters constantly shift. I won't ruin anything, but I will say Omar is one of the greatest characters ever.
I have never had a person I recommended the show to come back and tell me they were disappointed. It almost always exceeds expectations.
Edit: this was in reference to quacker mentioning you should watch this show.
