Not much for me yet, (not that their lineups try to appeal to me, obvz), but hopefully there's a few more names I enjoy. There were certainly more acts I had mild interest in last year than I do so far.
Either way, I'm sure I'll be back to work it. Really really wonderful event.
For those who have been before what would you say about size of the crowd? We're thinking about taking the kids (11 and 7) but their only other fest experience has been LEAF which is limited to 6000 people.

This would be a great festival to take the kids to. Plenty of families around last year, at least during the day. Last year the festival sold 14000 tickets, I'm not sure if they are planning on expanding this year. There are some extracurriculars going on, but for the most part its a good festival for the family.
approo - We're getting more and more serious about Floydfest and are trying to get an idea as to how big a site we're talking about. We are used to car camping and I understand that's not the deal here so how far do we have to drag our stuff? We're actually looking at trying out Show Sherpa if it's much distance at all, especially with the kids.
Also, what's the vendor situation like? Food quality, variety, etc.
Inside for y'all trying to decide whether to go all 4 days, no times but Galactic plays Thursday, Ozomatli and Franti are both playing Saturday.

You don't have to carry your gear from parking to the fest, in fact you aren't even allowed to. They have free shuttles running from the parking grounds to the festival site with trailers attached to load your gear on. Site size kinda depends on when you get there and what side you set up on, etc. Pretty much anywhere is fair game to set up your stuff as long as it isn't in the center area where the music is going on. From what I could tell they weren't really restricting any campsites, as far as size. But if you plan on having multiple canopies and such, you may want to plan to arrive as early as possible. I'd check the site and email any questions you have. Last year was my first year and I showed up with some clothes and a sleeping bag and met up with some friends of mine who were already set up.
Plenty of good food, with variety. Plenty of vendors. Its a great time, do it!
I think this would be an awesome festival to break my daughter in with. She keeps asking to go to roo with me and I think she needs to experience a few smaller fests first. Weve been to shows together but never all day fests.
The festivals are coming out guns blazing this year....so many to choose from
^^^My kids are 10 and 7 and I wouldn't think of taking them to Roo for years still. We have done LEAF fest out in the mountains of NC with them and they had a fantastic time.
Potato - I don't have a schedule but I do know that the last stage closes at 2:30 am
completely agree with you, shes 9 and totally not ready for Roo. Im not saying any 9 year old isnt ready for Roo, I just know mine isnt. It will be a few years for something of that size
I've told my son that if he's still interested I'll take him junior year of high school since Roo is always over graduation weekend so senior year is out. I suspect when that happens we'll wind up taking his sister as well, she'll be 14 and I'll be having a nervous breakdown.
thinking about hitting this up. Dawes and ALO are two of My favorites. I know its more of a family freindly vibe, whats the story on late night?
There are a couple stages that run late. One of the stages, the one that runs the latest, is actually in one of the camping area's, I believe the music went on until about 3, can't remember that clearly, but there isn't a definite curfew. It is a family friendly fest, but the party vibes are definitely around once the sun goes down.
^^^Yeah I got an e-mail from the fest crew and the last stage is supposed to shut down at 2:30 so your memory is probably right on track.
Thanks so much for the info about the trailers/shuttles. We've been thinking about using the Show Sherpa just so we don't have to haul quite so much. God knows the kids want to bring all kinds of things they're sure they'll need and never use
