Dawes takes the material to another level live. Taylor has some really good guitar solos and Griffin brings a lot of energy on the drums. Their Sonic Stage set in '10 was a great way to start the day and damn if that night set at Troo wasn't overflowing.

He does bring alot of energy, but he makes these faces that look like he is having trouble taking a crap.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Missed Dawes at Bonnaroo 2010, but was fortunate enough to see and even meet them when they played a free show a couple months later that year in Cincinnati on Fountain Square. I did notice the weird faces the drummer was making and thought the exact same thing. And I was surprised at how short Taylor is. He's maybe 5 '5 ft tall. I'm thinking this year they'll be promoted to an actual tent and not play in a cafe.

Seeing Dawes in the troo music lounge in 2010 was the perfect start to my Saturday night. With a small crowd to move around in it was a bit of a breather, while still being a pretty rockin show. Follow that up with plopping myself in front of the which for 3 hours while KOL played, sharing a whole lotta corn with some friends and a few strangers, followed by the best Flaming Lips show I've ever seen.
I will NEVER forget that night. Seen them twice since and each show's been better than the last. Can't wait to see these guys back on the farm.
Saw their (awesome) Sonic Stage set and it also converted several of my friends. I will always welcome a set from them and it's about time Roo put them in full tent slot.

Big fan of Dawes. Love middle brother as well. I totally expect Matt Vasquez to join in on this set (and likewise for the Delta Spirit set). They always put on a good show.
I got my entire Bonnaroo group into these guys recently. This is definitely going to be a must see set; good times and good friends.
In addition, does anyone know how to find a copy of the Dawes Backstage at Bonnaroo performances? They just played them on Radio Bonnaroo, and they were absolutely amazing.

im pretty sure that me and the 7+ people that are going with me and my fiance have been listening to dawes non-stop since the middle brother cd came out. if i remember correctly, last weekend we were all screaming lyrics around a beer-pong table at 3:30 am.
2010 i missed them, but it was my first roo, i didnt respect it yet and behaved like a whiny baby, and honestly i didnt know who he was. WONT MISS IT FOR THE WORLD THIS YEAR

Yea they're much more interesting live than on album. I like the albums but watching them do it in concert is much better. They can jam out pretty well.
They have some awesome recordings on Daytrotter both as Dawes and as Simon Dawes. Check the latter's version of "Bedside Manner' at Daytrotter. They've never sounded more like The Band.
Also there are some great videos on there, particularly the Mooney Hollow Saloon show from 10/11/09.
I never knew they used to go by Simon Dawes. I really need to track down Carnivore and the EPs they released as Simon Dawes now
Yeah, Taylor is still the singer, but it's pretty different. By the time they broke up they sounded a lot more like Dawes does now, but their early stuff is not what you would expect. This was back when Blake Mills was in the band. He went on to be a sidemen for everyone from Andrew Bird and Band of Horses to Weezer, Kid Rock, and Jenny Lewis. I think he's with Fiona Apple now.
I saw Dawes before Mumford & Sons at the Ryman. Sounded great. Definitely be a show I'd hit up at Bonnaroo. Keep an eye on their drummer. He makes really great faces.

the singalong for when my time comes during their set at the Budweiser Tent in '09 is one of my favorite festival memories. the smaller crowd had more fun than you are supposed to
