For two of the Bonnaroos I was the girl with the water bottle. I was completely sober for 09 and 11. I was 6 months pregnant in 09 and 7 months in 11.
I still tried to "get down" as much as possible.
In 09 I was on the farm in a tent for almost 10 days. Just because you have a water bottle doesn't mean you have to hate of the people with a beer/joint/other. Just enjoy yourself.
What, you think because they started booking rappers, now the crowds are junkie thugs?
I never said that .....just saying how it is....youve got to admit its a very different crowd now than it used to be....no....people are caring more about getting high than the music.....thats my opinion
You didn't actually go the first 7 years did you? Since 06 drug use has probably dropped off by 75% or more imo.

Sweet Science - I haven't seen one of these threads in a while. It's like a unicorn. A mysterious shit-covered unicorn.
I'll go dig up the hippy-dippy monologue I posted on here years ago about how Roo is amazing and the heart of it is always in the right place in a moment. But, seriously, we need to have a little chat... there is a reason that the sign as you pull into Burning Man says "there was no Burning Man last year."
It's for people like you.
You don't like it don't go, but don't go and then bitch about how it used to be better - cause it wasn't. Memories tend to erase the bad shit and make the good times (and lots of mediocre times)seem like glittering angels draped in star dust and heady nugs brah.
You know what? I saw a girl getting dogged by two dudes behind a car off of Shakedown in '03 - didn't see any of that last year, or the year before. To me, that's pretty awesome. Last year, I had an amazing time with 35 cars of other like-minded individuals who all came together because of Inforoo and had a fucking blast. And you know what's even better? I've had a fucking blast all 9 years that I've gone. Even the years that bad shit has happened (and I've had some shit go down at Roo that I wouldn't want my worst enemy to experience) haven't quelled my love for Roo and I still come back.
Life is what you make of it and if you like Wanee, then head on over to Wanee and leave this soul-less fest to those of us who obviously don't know any better and continue to have a good time.

Well since you did not go the past what 4 years or so, and I did I am going to go ahead and say that I am not sure why you think your opinion is more valid than mine....

I never had a grate time. But a had a great one.
I don't know who sry is. But I don't want to offend her either.
I mean I am 34, I just hope I never get so old I can not have fun at Bonnaroo.
My dad's almost 60 and we still go to concerts together a few times a year. And have fun. So as long as you don't decide to stop having fun I think you're in the clear.

I tend to have a good time wherever I go, I am pretty sure I just have a vibe shield that makes anything within ten meters of me unbearably awesome.

And Bonnaroo was never a grass-roots movement, you're confusing movement with some other word. If you think it was all about gaining karma and some rando guy was putting it on "for the good vibes;" you're delusional. If fests don't make money, they don't survive. You also don't survive with no infrastructure, planning or a team of lawyers making sure that some brah doesn't sue because he twisted his ankle on a half-full bottle of DasaniTM water during the Jay-Z show. And those jammy bands that everyone loves... they love a full bank account just as much as the next guy. Show me a jam band that played Roo for nothing but the spiritual gain...
That's the same shield I use when I'm at a festival with my kids and some drunken dumb dumb trips on my 4 ft tall children dancing on a blanket with 30 glow sticks surrounding it, in the back of the field, and then yells at me about bringing my kids to a festival.
Again I apologize for my poor grammar because I'm now on my 4th.....wait....now my 5th glass of wine.

AC did the first one because a naked Indian in a vision told him to actually.

So what about the corporate loan, and AC producing it, was that also grass roots? I mean nobody put this together for funsies it was always a business venture designed to make money.

I'm pretty sure that is called advertising and it's what people do to help them make money. Lots of bands put fliers on posters around here, I don't read them all, but I bet they are trying to get me to buy a ticket to their show.
Getting kids to do things under the false guise of "you're doing something important" is just a way of not paying for a street team.

I was a flier/poster person when I was 15. It was a way for me to get invited to events before I had a job. But my boss at the time thought I was 18 so....Thanks, John B**sa.

Keep it corporate. Those beer licensing deals keep ticket costs down.
The one qualm I had this past year over the profiteering of the festival is that the parking situation was a whole lot more difficult. I needed to leave on the earlier side Sunday, and getting out was way harder than the year before.
I would not mind paying more for a ticket for a smaller crowd.
That said, if Roo selling its soul meant I got to experience a (likely costly) Mothra vs Godzilla battle and jet pack pilot at SCI's awesome LN set, bring on the capitalist nature of festival organizing.
