I should have known better than to even somewhat complain about My Morning Jacket on this message board.
I was just bummed when I saw all the awesome rare songs I missed. Was it so hard to ask out of seeing them 3 times that I get a single "Lay Low"? Oh well, I still consider them one of the greatest bands around right now.
I liked their variety in the two shows I saw them at last year (Lolla and Roo). They sticked to their "popular" ones, but they also switched a few less known ones between performances. For example, at Roo they played "Steam Engine" but at Lolla they switched it for "Dondante". They also had "Lay Low" at one of those (Lolla, I think) and "The Way That He Sings", but they played some other ones instead at the other festival. They both were some of my favorite performances from last year.
So, yeah, MMJ is more than welcome back in my book. I can't believe no-one's mentioned placing them in the Widespread Panic slot to close out the festival from 8-11 sunday night. That gives them a promotion in the rankings, while still allowing them to stretch out and play from all over their catalogue. From a selfish standpoint, as well, that would mean that the audience would be full of primarily MMJ lovers, which would be fun, rather than the weird mixture of people I encountered in the pit last year who knew jack shit about them.

I think most people are just assuming that Phish (who was confirmed by Insider) would take the Sunday slot....especially if they only get one show (instead of 2).
MMJ at Forecastle makes me happy since I'm only 3 hours away! That being said, I saw them 2 times last year, and like many have already said, I left the 2nd show a little disappointed because it was almost the exact same setlist. That being said, I really do LOVE me some MMJ so I'd love to see them at Bonnaroo again...no doubt!
I don't think I'd rule out an MMJ return with the band in bed with AC over Forecastle. They're curating the whole festival! I guess we'll see when the lineup comes out, but I'd personally love a return and would love to see a latenight show without an end They're always the headliner in my book <3
There is no such thing as too much MMJ. The first time I saw them was the epic 08 late night set. Nothing would make me happier than seeing them booked for another late night. As far as I am concerned, they are the best live band currently around.

I concur. My first MMJ experience was 08 Late Night Which that still gives me goosebumps thinking about. It would be amazing for another late night set with MMJ but I will be grateful just having their presence on the farm again.

I saw them 6 times in 2011 and I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. Ya the setlist variation wasn't huge for most of the tour but I really thought they stuck a good balance. If they played every song note for note every night it would be a little different but a lot of the songs that do get played every night are changed up quite a bit.
I would expect them to add a bit more variation for this years shows. Last year they were promoting Circuital and played nearly the whole album every night. I'm expecting a few of the Circuital songs to fall into the background a bit making way for a few more oldies.
I just really hope to get a chance to hear "Just One Thing" someday

when I saw MMJ last summer in alpharetta I couldn't help but think how they could so get my Phish money if they just played different setlists every night.
but then i had to ask myself, do i REALLY want to go to an MMJ show where they don't play One Big Holiday and Off The Record? ;D

their '04 set was what initially got me hooked on mmj in the first place, hard to think it was almost 8 years ago. 2006 had to be my favorite set from them of all time, covering the who, misfits and bringing out andrew bird for a few songs. 2008 was phenomenal also (kirk hammet/zach galifianakis are some of my favorite bonnaroo memories) but last years set really didnt do much for me. kinda pedestrian. when they come back, they need a good long set to jam it out.
Not that anyone really expected them to be back but it is looking like they will be in Europe during Roo. If you get MMJ at Primavera I will murder you Gland.
Yeah, I was just coming on to post about that. They just created an event on Facebook for a show on June 19th in the Netherlands. I wasn't getting my hopes up too high for them to return, but still a bummer. I'm glad I have Forecastle tickets at least.
I'm praying for an epic MMJ return. Get them off the main stage, put em at Which for some more late-night magic.
This . I love MMJ but I got a much better vibe from when they played the Which Stage. When they headlined last year, it just didn't have the same 'magic' as when the played on the Which. I stayed for about 3/4 of the 08 show and all of last year's show.
It just seems to me the What Stage takes out some of the awesome vibe for some acts. I thought LN Galactic on the Other Tent (I think '10) was far better than Galactic last year on the main stage.

I don't think it's the What Stage that's to blame.
I think it's more about how they only had 2 hours (as opposed to 3....which ended up being closer to 4 anyway) and a band on after them. They were virtually unopposed (not a ton of stuff going on) for some of their set and they were on the biggest stage (meaning likely the biggest audience) in a prime time spot. They didn't go deep for the hardcore fans because I think the show was more about growing the fanbase and promoting the new album.
Seems like they knew that they'd have a great exposure to tons of potential new fans so the show was geared more towards that.
I think if they had a What stage slot without anyone after them and 3+ hours to jam then it'd be quite epic.
