Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Question: is there a way for everyone to have their own option for this? Like how you can turn karma and sigs on/off?
I'm not trying to be snarky, but couldn't you just type it however you wanted to? I mean if it gets switched to asterisks, you can still type "quack" and "smurf", and if it stays the same you can go with f*** or f*ck or whatever.
I guess this relates more to the entire point of the thread.
You could always just type in the asterisks as well if using fuck as a expletive makes you feel unmanly.
Im with popsarah on this one. Our board isn't sissified by having a filter for expletives; I feel it legitimizes it. The filter keeps it a (generally) safe place for anyone wanting to know about Bonnaroo to come and learn. i.e. the basis and foundation of Inforoo. Newspapers/mags/blogs can quote us without having to worry about offending their readers, we get our thoughts/ideas/tips out there with the focus being on the content.
I love saying "quack" in RL... has definitely saved my ass at work a couple times.

Is this really the time of year to pretend Inforoo is all flowers and hugs?
Wait...wut? Are you saying it is not?
Isn't this the time of year when people jump down each other throats? And everyone's on edge until after the lineup. Then people complain for a while, and then everything is good again.
Not sure of all the details, but I have heard folks talk about "the other" inforoo board where they can talk about druqs and such (I am sure if you can talk about that they won't mind cursing either). Why don't yall just go there where you know it won't piss anyone off, or is that really the motive behind all this?
You know, it really is only a handful of people that:
1. Have a problem with the filter 2. Purposely circumvent the filter 3. Cry whine and complain about it
I think we should focus on pleasing the majority of the board, not the vocal, foul mouthed, few.
So I have seen quite a few arguments for keeping it the way it is, and one against because it makes the board "illegible". What are the other reasons we should switch?
There is no option to have the mods edit all of your posts. I would choose that one.
This is a good point as well, there is no way to completely fix the filter, and having a policy of mods having to do work for people who want to be jackasses without repercussion is probably not optimal either. Maybe a warning level for folk that just can't make themselves follow the rules.

It was discussed in the other thread that started all of this and I said that I would do something like the following (i'm not sure if other mods would do the same).
1st - I notice someone using the filter workaround. I send them a PM asking them to take it out and it's against the rules.
2nd - If they do it again (or don't remove the workaround after the first request) they get another PM and a warning level raised.
3rd - Warning level raised.
4th - I will edit the post since the person is blatantly breaking the rules and leave a note for what was edited.
Overall the filter is good, but Scrog should be able to talk about penises as well as vaginas and Maynard should be able to discuss classic literature such as Moby Dick.

What is a list of the words and what they are changed to? I wouldn't mind some of them being revamped so you have an idea of the word they were going for just to follow the convo. If people want to put *** in, well then do it, the whole board doesn't need to have those.
I really would like to hear from others that voted to change it to the ***
We have 20 votes to change it, but only 2 folks with reasonably valid points.
What counts as a valid point to you?
I think it looks childish the other way. If the way our board is different from others is by using "quack" instead of better content, then I think that's kind of sad.
This whole thing started because some posters were getting edited by mods because they working around the filter. That's apparently not going to happen anymore so it's settled.
