I can't wait to take photographs of this haha, hopefully, I can get away with taking the big ol' white L lens into centeroo...probably not, but maybe I'll get a few shots before they tackle me hahaha, then I'll come back with a smaller lens. I'm pumped for this
Oh man! I've been away squaring away my sudden move so I haven't had a chance to work on the jellyfish, but all the materials are with me! I love how this has taken on a life of its own. JELLYFISH SWARM!!!!!!
Maybe let's pick a night and swarm in together. That way we can make a spectacle all walking together, go see whatever shows we plan to see, and all night we'll be seeing our fellow jellies jellying around and people will be losing their heads!!

any other DIY toys to make? i feel this thread went off topic to the jellyfish discussion, while it is a good idea, i just feel it should have its own thread. but i kinda wanna hear about some cool trippy toy ideas other people got. if anyone is bringing a hookah, something real fun to do is to cut the top off of a 20 oz bottle of soda so you just have the funnel shape and dip it into a dish with bubble soap in it, and exhale smoke into it to make giant hookah smoke filled bubbles. provides endless entertainment!

HSID.. this is amazing. unfortunately all the hookahs i've seen have glass bases including mine. anyone know of a plastic or ceramic hookah?
Plastic ones are easy enough to make in a pinch. all you need is some hosing, a 2 liter bottle, and a bowl for the top (glass is so much better than foil)

probably going to start work on my sprinkler flagpole tomorrow. I got some ideas from some diy squirtgun sites too.
so far i think it will consist of a personal flagpole made from pvc, with a pvc container (roughly 1gal) on the bottom with a squirtgun style pressure pump on it. water will be routed (via clear tubing of some sort) to the top of the pole where a small spinning (or multidirection) sprinkler head will be. so at any time i can just fill it up, pump it like a supersoaker, turn a valve, and then everyone around me is refreshed. awesome (if it works...)
also, for late night, im thinking i might be able to install a few battery powered ultraviolet LEDs within the tank, and add some of that glow in the dark paint to the water. this way when it sprays everywhere its like an explosion of glowing water in the crowd. also hoping that everyone around me would be too far gone to mind being sprayed with glowing paint.... if anybody knows of a better glowing alternative to add to the water let me know.

i dont think it will be that heavy im thinking <15lbs. the gallon will be at the bottom so i can just rest it on the ground if i need to. and the "flag" will be made of 2 pieces of paper with pictures (idk what of yet..) and i think ill laminate them, so its lightweight and waterproof.
one of the things thats going to suck the most is that i have to figure out a way to take it apart for the car ride, and put it back together once we get there, and since it has to retain air pressure it might be tricky (pvc is not easily un-glued)
Make one of the pictures of bubbles from trailer park boys
Definitely going with ricky and bubbles. thats the best idea ive ever heard. ...assuming that i actually get this project completed (im already catching flack about my roo gear and purchase list)

I was thinking of making my flag with a bubbles picture for the day and sew in green led lights to make a Mario 1-up mushroom. Not sure how to do it yet but, still looking into it.
Rage sticks! (light up stick thing) Lotta fun and your friends can find you EASY in a crowd... Given they are at the right crowd, not over-indulged in corn, in the general area etc, etc.
Friend of mine has the aliens on the left, can see mine near the right, around the 30 sec mark... two disco ball things with the blue spiral around em. that is Eyegasm. however the vid doesn't give 'er any justice BUT look for us at the late nights of 'Roo!

Just to let you know, the glow bubbles that are for sale in stores aren't great. The bubbles themselves don't glow, just the solution. Might be fun to paint stuff with, but wasn't nearly as cool as it should have been. Haven't tried making my own glow bubbles with glow sticks yet. I love the glitter bubble idea too!

im hoping someone can help me out here. i just recently got a gopro and am asking for help. i want to get a monopod so i can place the camera on it and take videos/pictures from 2-3 feet above the height of the crowd. originally i had planned on buying a collapsable monopod from a computer store. unfortunately they all have standard tripod mounts and in order to attach a gopro to them i would have to buy an 8 dollar mount (that i would have to order online and would not arrive by the time i leave to start my trip), and i am already wayy over budget for this trip.
so i was hoping to make one using thin PVC piping. only problem is that i am no good with building things like this. i was hoping someone could help me out and make some sort of pole with a flat top (so i can attach the double stick mount to the pole) and would be collapsible down to a foot or so (must fit into camelbak when not in use.) an idea that popped into my head was to use one of those canes that blind people use to walk around, as they fold into themselves, although i would not know how to go about obtaining a stick like this. i can pay you in beer, good company, and awesome videos.

Couple ways to do this. First the pole. The collapsable CA.e may work but it will be too short. I would go to a hardware store and build a telescoping PVC tube yourself with different sized pipes and a few connectors you can tighten. Should be relatively stable if ddone right and relatively cheap.
Next, for the top, get a thin piece of wood larger than your camera and glue or adhere it in some way to your pole. Go to a craft stores and get a sheet of the strongest (biggest loop) self adhering Velcro they have. Put the female (loop) side on the wood and the male hook side on the camera.
This is about as good as you can get with a makeshift setup.
that was the exact setup i was thinking about doing, sans the velcro. i was just going to attach the quick release mount to the wood directly using the double sided tape that is already part of the mount. i was just hoping a nice stranger would take the time to make it for me as i really dont have the time/knowhow to do it myself. it does seem simple enough that i could possibly do it, but i really just dont have the time.

Tape will work but may damage the camera. Also, dust and humidity will degrade performance.
I would help make but I do not have the time as I am running around ggetting things wrapped up.

i am not worried about either of these two issues. the tape will be on a a separate mount that is fully detachable from the camera (via clips and screws), and i have extras of. also dust and humidity will have no effect on the camera as i will keep the waterproof case on it at all times. i guess ill just have to hit up home depot or lowes on the way home and see if someone there can help me put something together real quick, the offer of beer and other happy fun things is still out there for anyone who wants to build one for me.
UPDATE! so i just decided to go ahead and make it myself. if you gotta get something done right, do it yourself! i have to say i am very pleased with my work (i gotta give credit to my little cousin for providing the awesome duct tape ) ^anyone know how the best way to keep this closed when it is collapsed? where the gold and the purple connect.
^tried coloring the first section too, but the duct tape made the pipe too thick to fit in the hole(giggity) while collapsed. maybe someone with spray paint can spray a thin coat on it for me at the farm?
