I'll be driving down to Manchester from Toronto. Last year I believe my group stopped at a liquor store between Bowling Green and Elizabethtown, but I can't remember the exit or the name of the place.
I was just wondering if anyone can suggest a store or two just off the highway that I can stop by along the way? Preferably around that same area. Thanks!
For anyone driving through New Jersey down the east coast, I would strongly recommend Total Wine and Liquor in River Edge, NJ. They have a truly incredible selection of everything (Beer, Wine, Liquor, etc.). Their prices are also very reasonable compared to other states I've been to.

From a Legal standpoint I suggest buying liquor in TN. If for some reason you get pulled over a cop can write ticket/jail for transporting alcohol across state lines. Some of the cops down here are that big of dicks.
It's due to liquor taxes. Other states don't want you bringing in untaxed liquor. It is technically interstate trafficking. Odds are no one will give you any trouble over it though. But to be on the safe side just buy your liquor in Tennessee. Off of I24 take exit 78B I believe. It will be the one that says Murfreesboro not Shelbyville. Take your first left after coming off the interstate and on your right about 1/10 of a mile down there is a Stones River Total Beverages. One of the biggest liquor stores I have ever been in. There is a Wal-Mart right there too if you need any last minute things. Murfreesboro is pretty much your last contact with the outside world before you get to Manchester so stock accordingly. Our 9.75% sales tax may be a little staggering to you but thanks in advance for improving our city. Liquor stores close at 11PM and are not open on Sundays. The later shouldn't be a problem for you though.

What an obnoxious law...I'm still curious how they will search my trunk without violating my privacy and due process rights.

I haven't bought a bottle of liquor in so long but I'm pretty sure there is not tax stamp on them like there is for cigarettes. So, if there isn't they really can't prove that it was bought out of state. You will be fine bringing in. A cop can pretty much find a way to search you. If he wants to search 99% of the time he will. That's what sucks about the system it is your word against theirs and in court their word is held to a much higher standard than yours. You have to prove something happened. They just have to say something happened.
I'm always the bait car. I do have a pretty fancy radar detector though. Only been pulled over once and I just wasn't paying attention to it and was banging music a little to loudly to hear it going off. He let me go for doing 72 in 50. It is all about being courteous to them and following the steps to getting pulled over. Pull over far enough to where they don't have to stand on the side of the road. Keep your seat belt on. Roll down both windows. Turn on every light inside of your car and keep your hands on the steering wheel until they come up to you. Works like a charm.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
You're cute.
Also, nobody anywhere should be worried about bringing in liquor from another state. Nobody. They cannot possibly hold you to anything unless you've got a UHaul full of illegal hooch. Unless you're doing it to avoid commercial taxes, there is zero against the law with buying a bottle of booze for 35.99 in New Jersey, and bringing it to Tennessee where that same bottle is 42.99.
They flat out bust Tennesseans who go buy cigarettes and booze in Kentucky and bring it back. Every so often it is on the news when they are running checkpoints. Honestly I buy my booze and take it anywhere and do not worry about it, but it is a offense.
We are driving from Toronto as well. Last year we stopped in Bowling Green (Walmart probably).
From what I have researched this year though, Liquor Barn in Louisville is a great place and super cheap (and it is just off the highway). I'm stopping there on the way back up north as well to get a stockpile of craft beers.

NO GLASS!!! Not even in VIP, where you'd think you could easily sneak it past. Nooooo...they love to bust VIP cars because it means they get to confiscate (& later drink) overpriced Belgian lambics instead of cheap domestic whiskey. Not that I'm bitter or anything...
NO GLASS, Y'ALL. If you've gotta pour it into a 1L plastic water bottle, so be it. Pack smart or you won't drink it. They will.
edit: THEY MAY EVEN GIVE YOU HELL ABOUT GLASS CONTAINERS OF VITAMINS! No joke, I bought a jar of Omega-3 supplements from Whole Foods en route to the Farm last year, and the toll booth guy tried to confiscate it because it was glass. I had to explain to him that because it's light-sensitive, it's in dark-colored glass. Plus it was brand-new so I was obviously going to take it home. I won, but it was a hard-fought victory, damnit! Some tollbooth checkers are more hard-assed than others...
As the last post mentioned, there is one at the same exit as the Manchester Walmart. On the other side of the interstate, across from the Waffle House and Rac Trak gas station.
