i'm excited b/c i've run into the first world problem of repeating the same shows at fests and there are quite a few names on this lineup that i have never had the chance to see.
This'll be my third Coachella and every year I go through the initial "eh" phase. Even last year when the lineup was freaking fantastic. Yes the headliners aren't great but I set my expectations low this year hoping to get pleasantly surprised and I wasn't. But that doesn't matter because like a few people have already said that undercard is pretty great. I personally can't wait to see Grinderman, Jurassic 5, Violent Femmes, Wu Tang, How to Destroy Angels, Four tet, and the Postal Service all in one weekend. At this point I go for the experience anyway and the lineup is just the cherry on top.
Coachella would cost me about $1000 this year without spending money factored in...Roo might cost me $500 with spending money...the fact that the Coach tickets are $400 after fees with this lineup is mind-boggling...
There were a few late additions last year right? Bon iver, Dre and snoop were not announced with the original line up last year if I remember correctly? I could be wrong tho
Great undercard. I can't believe someone would not want to go to this.
If Bonnaroo had this exact same undercard, a lot of people here would be beyond thrilled. And is McCartney/Mumford/WSP (of course who knows if this is actually it) that much better than Coach's headliners? I feel like people are really sticking to this stupid Bonnaroo/Coachella "rivalry."
I was already financially pushing it anyways. For me there's just not much here that I haven't seen or won't have the chance to see locally sometime this year. And Saturday night (which I'd be most excited for) is already giving me conflict anxiety.
Just not sure if I'm willing to drop another grand on this lineup. The last five years have really spoiled me I guess. Chella's undercard is consistently stacked (as is the case again) but this poster just didn't give me that wow factor I'd grown accustomed to.
Friday looks fun though. Need to sleep on it.

I believe they were both on the original lineup last year. Definitely Dre and Snoop.
When I saw Violent Femmes 15 years ago, they were so pissed off that everybody only wanted to hear their first album. Bet they eat that shit up this time.

Random thought: It's absurd that The xx are ahead of any of Sigur Ros, New Order (Peter Hook or not), Hot Chip and Grizzly Bear, let alone all of them. And a reunited Postal Service. I don't get it.

There's a lot of this on this poster I've noticed. Head-scratching placement issues all around.

Pretty much my exact same thought the first time running through the lineup

It's still weird seeing Phoenix on a top line by itself. I kind of want to see Wu-Tang on Saturday with a shared top-billing like on Friday. I mean, if Phoenix could hold it, Wu-Tang could as well. I feel like that'd make the line-up poster "look" stronger.
real question: are the Violent Femmes like good? I've listened through some of their albums before and they've always struck me as aggressively mediocre.
Maybe the only Sigur Ros festival appearance in the States?
Saturday night melt down. They'll likely be booked against Hot Chip, New Order, or Phoenix. Maybe a combination of them even. That's what I'm most afraid of.
Sigur Ros will probably close the outdoor during Phoenix's headlining set while Hot Chip is in a tent.

I like a fair amount of the lower acts, but I really don't understand what makes this bill "stacked" (both undercards were more impressive last year IMHO. ) Is it the bizarre placement of Violent Femmes and Wu-Tang?
P.S. Anyone who is going should check out Deathfix, Brendan Canty of Fugazi's latest project. S'awesome
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.

They're pretty good, but I'm honestly pretty baffled by everyone's excitement about them on the lineup. I guess I was lucky growing up/living in Milwaukee. I accidentally saw them like four times throughout middle school and high school at Summerfest.
The scheduling at Coachella sucks...they always seem to pit amazing acts against each other in the tents...you have to think that most of these bands on the undercard will be doing their own tours and the other fests...is there anything on there that really even looks like an exclusive?
