I'm discounting albums that may not have been written or recorded yet. Not sure why this is controversial.
So The National has an album that is coming out, and you discount it because it will be released before June, but you're asking for albums that can be heard before June?
How did I discount the National? They were the first band I mentioned with an album coming out. I'm discounting Petty, Macca, and David Byrne, and the link you provided on Pretty Lights didn't give a release date. I'm also discounting Edward Sharpe cause his album will probably suck (edit: also that article is super dated and I can't find anything else about it coming out this month).
Dammit, missed the word "only" in your quote, so that it read "You realize one of these albums comes out before Roo."
Still, you're ignoring Billboard, the Guardian, a band's own website, and another source just because you happen to not like the band, not to mention several albums dropping within the 4-6 months before the fest. Pretty thin support for that argument.
MOD and board, I would buy two also if they are face but I am not going trolling for tics. I have a free weekend that week so if anyone on THIS board will be close to Coachella, Denver, or the trip out, I would buy them also. tnx

Yes, this will join "South vs south" and "ASAP Rocky is a violent criminal" in the annals of wise things I've learned from Godzilla.
it'snot like this is an original argument. it's been beaten to death literally everywhere for years. it's tired as Quack.
I think everyone agrees with you here except Godzilla. I made an offhand comment about it and it turned into a dumb-a-thon.
yeah, i mean, my comment was directed at you specifically, just a general comment. it's boring to read and there's no end game. no one can 'win' the conversation. it can go on endlessly.
similar to lineup/headliner speculation, actually.

Don't ya love the boards. I'm a goof on most of the boards (same name everywhere) and I thought the BMan board would be the live and let live of all the boards. Nope. Life, always surprising ... cr****

Your "offhand comment" wasn't the general Coach vs. Roo BS. You asked if The National was the only artist/band on the Bonnaroo card with a new album coming out and, since you couldn't think of any, made a sweeping generalization about the two festivals. Not sure why you would be surprised to have someone actually answer the question you posed when there are at the least new albums forthcoming from Macca, Petty, Wilco, Pretty Lights, Edward Sharpe, Portugal, Jason Isbell, The National, and Preservation Hall, with quite recent releases from several others.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I don't get the joke.
They aren't there for the music but because it's a cool thing to be at. A common thing that some have said about a small portion of Coachella attendees. But that could be said about a lot of festivals (being there for reasons other than music).
But you're right about them looking like they fit in at Roo and that those bands have played Roo before.

Yeah, you really fixed my post by negating direct confirmations from Petty, Tweedy, Edward Sharpe, and PHJB. By the way, your list in the other thread is falling behind. Perhaps it would be easier to list the bands playing Bonnaroo that don't have new music.
For what it's worth I always appreciated the fact that people dress fashionably at Coachella and that there is an attention to that amongst festival-goers. As someone who likes fashion it's interesting to me to see what people are pulling off. I think that's where a lot of the "want to be seen" stigma comes from but I think a lot of people just like to dress cool and there's nothing wrong with that.

You cannot release an album without a release date. Not a hard concept. You're getting ahead of yourself. Last year Major Lazer was supposed to have a new album out by Roo, and now its coming out in April (after having a March 2013 date).

Yeah? How many dashikis do you see people rocking at Brochella? Huh, Zapp? HUH!?
My friend has an album on Facebook entitled "Girls of Coachella." He's never been to Coachella. I'm still debating how creepy this is.

True but I don't think I've ever viewed it like people going out of their way to dress trendy/fashionably at Coachella. I have always felt that it's more about people who dress that way in their everyday life just happen to make up a good amount of the Coachella audience. It would certainly help if I attended and wasn't basing this off hearsay and photos i've seen. But it's totally possible some people dress up even more than usual for a festival. We all know that people do that for other festivals (though swap out "fashionable" for "Banana costumes, superhero outfits, and general weird stuff").

To me that implies something inherently wrong with the character of people who dress fashionably if there is something distasteful about how Coachella is enjoyed by someone who seems to represent a certain (perhaps fashionably daily) demographic.

there are definitely whores at coachella who dress like their going to the club. it was pretty funny on friday night W1 last year. all these girls shivering trying to walk the grounds in high heels. it's the LA contingent. purely geographical.

That's fair enough, but it's pretty obvious to me how self-serving your continuous additions of hurdles to be considered an artist with a new album are. You ignore new releases from the past ten weeks, new releases that you don't like, and new releases where the artist specifically said the material might be played in summer shows even if the record isn't released. So basically your argument ends up being that a lot can be discerned about Bonnaroo based on the artists on its card that have new releases with confirmed release dates that specifically fall between February 19 and June 13, but only those that you like.
