According to the email confirming the shipment: "THIS YEAR, EACH FESTIVAL-GOER IS REQUIRED TO REGISTER THEIR RFID WRISTBAND. IT’S YOUR TICKET AND YOUR INVESTMENT. REGISTERING WILL ESTABLISH ITS AUTHENTICITY AND ENSURE THAT YOUR UNIQUELY CODED WRISTBAND BELONGS TO YOU. YOU’LL ALSO ENHANCE YOUR BONNAROO EXPERIENCE AND BENEFIT FROM THE WRISTBAND SECURITY, SOCIAL MEDIA FEATURES, MERCHANDISE SPECIALS AND POSSIBLE VIP UPGRADES. AFTER REGISTERING YOUR WRISTBAND YOU WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO CONNECT TO YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT."
We had to register them last year too. Why would it be a problem? It prevents scalping and allows them to replace your wristband in case you lose it or it is damaged. Pretty straight forward in my books.

i opted to register my wristband last year, and somehow it managed to check me in on facebook when i went through the arch for the first time. THAT's what i found creepy....i didn't realize i had opted in to let FB post my whereabouts.....
Yep. I got home and when I got around to looking at FB, it showed me checked in at about 4hrs after the first time I went through the arch. It didn't track each time I went in and out, thankfully, but I believe that's what they refer to in the email as 'enhance... social media features'. I didn't care for it but, in its defense, when my wristband quit scanning I had NO problem getting a new (and looser!) wristband.
If you're on Facebook, you should realize that your private information is not really private anymore. You can't really complain about big brother if you're on FB.

Mine will be here tomorrow. I will be waiting with members of the Pondo Army, in full battle gear, for my ticket tomorrow. I feel sorry for the postman if he does not have mine!
