In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.
So far, it's not clear if the death is related to the rapper's battle with cancer.
Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead. Yauch co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, Mix Master Mike, and Ad Roc. The group has won multiple Grammys. Yauch became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors. Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.

Sad not only for him and his family and the rest of the Beastie Boys but also for my own personal selfish reasons that I never got to see them live before this happened
They were getting set to tour again this summer too.
This makes the roo show in 09 one of the last they ever all played together.
I'm pretty sure that it was their last show, becuase they cancelled their lolla show that year.
First CD I purchased as a kid was License to Ill. They aren't my favorite band of all time, but they are the only band that I began listening to as a kid and still love to this day.
This is so sad. I saw them on the 2008 Rock the Vote tour. It was the only time I've seen them and it was in a small place and an amazing show. Ben Stiller came out as a surprise and rapped with them for Sabotage, it was great. My husband has only seen them once as well at one of the early Lollapalooza's.
So MCA get on the mic my man Born and bred Brooklyn the USA They call me Adam Yauch but I'm MCA Like a lemon to a lime a lime to a lemon I sip the def ale with all the fly women Got limos arena the TV shows Autograph pictures and classy hos Step off homes get out of my way Taxing little girlies form here to LA Waking up before I get to sleep Cause I'll be rocking this party eight days a week

I just looked up their gigography. They cancelled the rest of their 09 tour dates on July 20, 2009. Their next show after Bonnaroo was All Points West, which was July 31-Aug 2nd. Unless I'm missing something, we got the last show of a 30 year career. This isn't really making me feel better.

Heartbroken right now :-(
This was the first band to really make an impact on me. My older brothers played their music a lot when I was younger so I got hooked on them when I was around 10. My only consolation was that I finally got to see them play in '09. Best memory of that weekend!
RIP to a beautiful soul!

This breaks my heart. I'm 42 years old and I practically grew up with these guys. This is like finding out someone close to me from high school passed away. ............fuck.
I was at their show at Roo in 2009 and I will cherish that memory forever.
