So very sad, not just because of the memories from his music, but also because it was an amazing humanitarian and was instrumental in the Free Tibet movement. My first time seeing them was in DC at the Tibetan Freedom Festival in 1998 which they used to educate the US on the issues in Tibet.
This is almost upsetting for me as when Jerry Garcia died - that one broke my heart.
This is the only time I have actually been sad over a celebrity death. Even Levon Helm, as much as I love The Band. Beasties have been a part of my life since music has. Not to mention I think Hot Sauce Committee showed them reborn, with no signs of slowing down. This is such a bummer.

I actually cried real tears. I was remembering a dude I went to high school with who was absolutely stuck on saying "Yo homeboy what you been drinkin man!?" I found out a year ago that he O.D.ed on pills.

I think what makes Adam sadder than Levon is the age. 47 is just too damn young for anyone to go, especially someone with so much left to give.
They were getting set to tour again this summer too.
This makes the roo show in 09 one of the last they ever all played together.
Sadly enough there wasn't any planned tour. I actually knew that his heath wasn't good from a friend of mine who has close ties to the band. She was debating on going to the Rock Hall induction. I am glad she made that decision to go. R.I. P. MCA
there bonnaroo performance was my second favorite right after volta's... this sucks, one of the first groups i ever seriously got into. my uncle showed me them when i was 10, had to break the news to him. this sucks. rip.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

This news is a serious punch in the gut...I wanted to express something heartfelt but right now I feel like all the language has been torn out of me. For what they're worth my prayers and, love and deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.
So quacking sad. At least I got to see that legendary '09 performance as my first ever 'roo headliner.
I'm pretty sure this post was intended at least in part to infuriate Jess and start up that "Beastie Boys didn't headline" argument again, and it just makes me love you all the more. I'm pretty sure MCA would have wanted it that way.
Too busy listening to License to Ill at a unacceptable volume in my office to care, about you being an ass today Juggs, sorry to disappoint.

If you try to knock me you'll get mocked I'll stir fry you in my wok Your knees'll start shaking and your fingers pop Like a pinch on the neck from Mr. Spock
Like a lot of other people here, they were one of the first groups that got me really into music, I remember hearing Brass Monkey all the time when I was a kid. In high school, my friend and I would learned the words to almost everything on Licensed to Ill and listened to it while we would skate, it really hits home as far as nostalgia goes I was also at the Bonnaroo '09 show, it was one of my main draws
This sucks, I loved the BB, and MCA in particular. The party I was scheduled to go to is now a BB themed party, which I'm skeptical about already. A bunch of hipsters who listen to BB vinyls to be ironic are somehow supposed to smash sh*t and act a fool? I'll give them a BB performance in MCA's honor, that's for damn sure.
Mr. Yauch’s mother said he died at 9 a.m. on Friday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan with his parents, his in-laws, his wife, Dechen Wangdu, and his 13-year-old daughter, Tenzin Losel Yauch, at his bedside. He had been admitted to the hospital on April 14 after a three-year battle with cancer of the salivary gland. He was conscious until the end.
“He was a very courageous person,” his mother, Frances Yauch, said. “He fought a long battle with cancer. He was hopeful to the very end.”
Mrs. Yauch said had been undergoing chemotherapy this spring, but his health deteriorated rapidly over the last two weeks. “It all just seemed to happen overnight,” she said. She added: “He was a terrific guy and had a brief but really wonderful life. We are really proud of him.”

Did you know Bonnaroo '09 was the last show the Beastie's played before Adam got too sick? I wasn't aware of that and in honor here's the one vid I got from that show. Have to think it was the last time they played No Sleep till Brooklyn..
RIP Adam Yauch, aka MCA. Your music will be loved for generations to come.
