Hi all! I'm new to the board and have read tons of threads and no one has mentioned this so I figured I should. Last year was my first Bonnaroo, so Im not siure if this ever happened in the past. OI think either Saturday or Sunday night, the main entrance by the ferris wheel and the Other Tent was not letting anyone in with glowsticks. The crowd got really really pissed they were making people throw them away by the hundreds, seriously. Has this ever happened? Does anyone know why we all of a sidden werent allowed to bring them in? But most importantly, is this going to happen again?? I dont want to bring a ton of them just to have to throw them away or walk all the way back to camp and back.

I believe it stems back to '05 and '06, when there was an obscene amount of glowsitcks. People were literally throwing hundreds at a time. It was a really cool visual effect, but I guess it made a mess and was potentially dangerous. Last year I saw them stop people that had glowsticks in bulk, but if you were just wearing some it was cool. I hope they ease up on that policy, because the glowstick wars are simply amazing.

I didnt have any myself but I knew I had seen thousands of them everywhere the previous nights so I thought maybe they all of a sudden decided to let them in. Thanks for replying so quickly!
I believe SCI knew about the ban and brought boxes of them.
I was approaching the Which stage before their show, and a dude with a box of em walked up and said "From the band, pass them around" and handed me 10 5-packs of the thin glowsticks.
we had a system for overcoming this. some of my friends would go through security first, then the one with the glowsticks would go through. security would confiscate his glowsticks and set them off to the side. then one of the other guys who had already gone through would go get them.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

The Radiohead glow stick war in 06 stands out particularly vivid in my memory...
Yes! As well as the subsequent insanity of glowsticks at Superjam. That was truly the year of the glowstick. We'd better be careful, or before you know it, we'll have "No Gl0wstick Talk on Inforoo" . . . then everytime you type in 'glowstick' it will filter to 'Emergency Only Lighting Device' . . .

haha i was just wondering if they were going to get mad about this too. I really did just have an honest question of are they usually allowed in and if not, why.

Bonnaroo does not control the filters on these forums, this is a privately operated forum out of roo's control.
Does "they" mean the mods getting mad about glowstick discussion, come on....you cant be serious!

I understand who controls the filters, and yes, by 'they' I did mean the mods, it was a joke.
However, you guys have decided to filter dooshbagh . . . which doesn't make sense on a lot of different levels.

yeah, i was joking, but also serious. Sorry I'm brand new to the boards and not 100% sure on how they work or what is allowed, etc. Too bad I missed out on those crazy glowstick wars in '06.
I missed out in 06 as well. I tried to bring TWO glowsticks in last year and they got tossed right in the garbage. I didn't know about this policy and the guy made no attempt to explain it to me. Granted it's my responsibility to know. I understand safety is number one but some of the staff working the Centeroo gate may be taking their positions a little too seriously.

And evidently it doesnt matter, as the filters can be circumvented. As proven time and time again ^^^^^^^
The filter of the word d...bag is censored because so many people love to use it as a derogatory snipe towards some one.
Honestly, how many discussion on inforoo would use the true meaning of d...bag???
Well, my primary objection is to the fact that it filters to a phonetic spelling, which sort of defeats the purpose.
But in regards to the choice of filtering the word, I don't generally see people take derogatory snipes at one another one this board, but if they did, douchebag seems like a relatively harmless term in the grand scheme of things.

I was almost offended by your word choice in that post, but once I noticed your spelling I was cool.
